Nordstrom is planning to close both of its Downtown San Francisco stores, choosing not to renew its lease obligations at its location in the Westfield Mall. It will also close a second nearby Downtown Nordstrom Rack.
The retailer confirmed the closures on Tuesday. In an email to employees, the company's chief stores offices wrote that "the dynamics of the downtown San Francisco market have changed dramatically over the past several years, impacting customer foot traffic to our stores and our ability to operate successfully." The two planned closures represent about 357,500 square feet of retail space, according to the San Francisco Business Times, which first reported Nordstrom's plans. The Westfield mall and its owner, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, said in a statement that the planned closure "underscores the deteriorating situation in Downtown San Francisco." "The planned closure of Nordstrom underscores the deteriorating situation in Downtown San Francisco," said a spokesperson for the mall. "A growing number of retailers and businesses are leaving the area due to the unsafe conditions for customers, retailers, and employees, coupled with the fact that these significant issues are preventing an economic recovery of the area." "[Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield] has actively engaged with city leaders for many years to express our serious concerns, which are shared by our customers and retailers. We have urged the city to find solutions to the key issues and lack of enforcement against rampant criminal activity," the statement read. Nordstrom also announced today that it would expand its presence in California, opening five new Nordstrom Rack stores in cities across the state, including one in San Mateo. The news of Nordstrom's Downtown exit comes less than a month after Whole Foods closed its flagship store nearby at Eighth and Market streets. The company blamed the closure on concerns about staff safety and deteriorating conditions in the area. As of today, a total of 20 retailers have shuttered stores or announced closures in the Union Square area since 2020, up from 17 just a week ago. https://sfstandard.com/business/nordstrom-to-shutter-both-san-francisco-downtown-stores-citing-deteriorating-conditions-report/ |

But there will be clothing deserts
Damn you Nordstrom. Why do you hate minorities .? |
|
Haha. I love watching liberal policies create failure after failure.
As long as it doesn’t affect me anyway. |

"the dynamics of the downtown San Francisco market have changed dramatically over the past several years"
Well it takes a while for those weak ass policies to take effect on a community. They voted for it... |

Gee I wonder what happened? |

Huh, you mean rampant theft and feces covered sidewalks is bad for business?
|
|
Well, that'll drive out even more capable people from that city. Most of which are surely leftists...
...hopefully they stay in the lesser bay area, preferrably on the peninsula |

Well now.... anyone want to go on a shoplifting roadtrip? |

Looks like prime real estate for like a methadone clinic or one of those safe spaces where you can shoot heroine.

This will be the trend for the next decade, only problem is the other trend, the crime comes to the surrounding suburbs.

The sad thing is, they will not admit their failures or acknowledge their policies are the cause. Like all Democrats, they will simply blame it on someone else instead of accepting responsibility. Kind of like in the book Atlas Shrugged, the goofballs in that book never acknowledged, or admitted that their policies were a failure. |

Look, this is really simple.
People steal, do drugs, and assault people because they’re poor and victimized. So what’s obviously necessary is to just raise taxes more on rich people so we can give the money to the poor people. Then they’ll stop committing crimes, get jobs, and be productive. |

On Clay and Buck today they were talking about a commercial building that was for sale in 2019 for 300 million.
Today it is for sale at 60 million. That's a pretty steep haircut. Interest rates are going to kill the commercial property industry. When you get a loan on a commercial property it isn't for 30 years, it's like 5 or 7 years and then you have to refinance. Oh boy. |
|
Google "Nordstrom + black lives matter" and see a few pages of articles about how woke Nordstrom is. They knew what they were doing; closing the SF stores has everything to do with poor sales at that location and nothing to do with crime. Unless they suddenly aren't woke anymore.

Bunch of racist bigots who are discriminating against the indoor occupancy challenged. Oh, who am I kidding.... Attached File |

I read an interesting article on retail.
According to the people who really trade. Retail is getting hammered. Bed bath and beyond “ gone” no buyers found to take it over. Best Buy Big lots can’t pay suppliers and will be gone by the end of the year. Nordstrom Even Dollar General plus a few others are in trouble. |

How will people shoplift high end clothing to feed to their kids?
Obviously racist. |

Dems destroy everything.
I met my wife while we were both working in downtown SF, over 30 years ago. |

Problem is the idiots that caused this decay of San Fran will be moving to a house in your neighborhood.

Consumer facing retail, specifically within Nordstrom's category, has been teetering over the edge for some time now.
I recall around CoV there were concerns they were real concerns about the company's future |

I hope that Gov. Abbott sends bus loads of homeless from Texas to SF and Portland. Pour on the coals and give the Dems exactly what they want and need.

All these woke cities are going the way detroit went, they will turn into empty ghost towns full of rotting corpses of former homes and businesses buildings.

It's a bold move to exampnd more in California as if the policies of San Francisco aren't made by the same deranged ideology as those running the state, with impunity to run things into the ground. Bold move...

Most big box stores have turned into the China/third world product dumping ground over the last few decades and it shows big time, especially the last 5 years or so. Even if a big box store carries some nice stuff most of the rest of the products will be broken, in the dump or a box in the basement within |

20,000 Illegals a day into Chicago until it breaks. Rinse and repeat to all the big Dem cities. MAKE THEM PAY FOR THEIR STUPIDITY. Make the remaining citizens pull their heads out of their asses and SEE what a FAILURE their leaders are. It should HURT. Home values of Dem voters need a 50% haircut to reflect the commun ity standards they vote for.
