That media and propaganda are the main reason Putin is still in power and why the whole country isn't protesting.

I guess there's a good reason we in theory have the 1A. The thing so important they put it at the top.

Since February 24, 2022, I’ve been trying to figure out whether Putin’s war is supported by majority of Russians. So far, my short answer is ‘yes’. At the same time, this support is far from being unanimous and truly enthusiastic 1/10

At the end of March, Moscow-based polling organization, the Levada Center, published shock numbers indicating that 89% of Russians support ‘actions of the Russian armed forces in Ukraine’ 2/10

This level of support has to be taken with caution as: 1) A large portion of Russians falsify their preferences; 2) Some of those who support a ‘special military operation’ do it thanks only to propaganda; 3) There are no vivid examples of sincere pro-war rallies from below 3/10

As Philipp Chapkovski and Max Schaub demonstrated in a list experiment, the level of preference falsification among Russian towards the question about a ‘special military operation’ is, at least, 15% 4/10

The main Putin’s weapon is propaganda. Biased media was responsible for such outstanding crimes as the Rwandan genocide (Yanagizawa-Drott 2014) and the Nazis’ cleanings (Adena et al. 2015), to name a few. By the same token, propaganda is the cause of many Russians’ delirium 5/10

Putin’s regime, especially these days, rests also on censorship which prevents the spread of alternative information. Literally all independent media are either blocked or prohibited in Russia. Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter aren’t available without VPN 6/10

Many people aren’t even aware of censorship. A question ‘What has happened?’ became popular in opposition activists’ jokes. This question is still in use by many Russians once they fail to use popular services or face with the lack of goods in shops 7/10

To the best of my knowledge, there haven't been any visible grassroot pro-war initiatives to date. So far, all rallies have been organized by state officials or their affiliates. Simultaneously, since February 24, more than 15,000 anti-war activists have been detained 8/10

To sum up, public support of Putin’s war isn’t as huge as it may appear from surveys. Moreover, I suppose that it could be retracted once Russians will get an access to alternative information. This belief is backed by a recent publication (Reuter, Szakonyi 2021) 9/10

Finally, the decline of economic well-being may turn Russians to update their beliefs about the regime. In August 2021, 66% of the Levada Center’s respondents confessed that high living standards outweighed geopolitical ambitions for them 10/10

Point initiated, base detonated. Piezoelectric chrystal’s in the nose. When it hits something and those are crushed, an electric current is sent back to set off the shaped charge at the back end of the cone shaped portion of an RPG-7 anti armor warhead.

There is no arming distance. They do however, self detonate at about 900m.

The anti personnel rounds only have a range of about 300m.

They can explode if you slam the nose of the round hard against something.

Well, the last time someone really pissed us off, we started by cutting their heads off and putting them on spikes as a reply. Then we finished off with not one but two atomic bombs.

Looks like the Russian Navy lost two ship's Captains in the last 24 hours.  The Captain of the ship hit in port died as well.

In the past NATO sources have placed Ukrainian military casualties as being about 60% of Russian numbers, so if ~18k Russian soldiers have died then I'd estimate the real Ukrainian military losses are somewhere in the 10-12k range. The death toll is probably higher if you also include civilians.

As a Pole, every Russian on Ukraine soil should be chopped up and left for the dogs and vultures.

Tossed into latrines would be fitting as well.

For those who might know...would our assets in the air or orbit be able to track where such a missile was launched from? Assuming we wanted to monitor the area?

Yes, and in real time.  SBIRS satellites for one.  Radars for another source.

I don’t know how many radar assets we have which would see short range missiles in eastern Ukraine.  Aegis ashore in Romania or Patriots in Poland are probably too far away to see unless they really go high.

It's system dependent, but I was thinking more of the Over the Horizon radar systems for detection as well as the space based assets.

By the impulse of the booster propulsion. Also, it didn't look like an RPG grenade, it didn't have the rocket nozzles. Looks like some sort of rifle HEAT grenade.
