You are correct. You are full of ignorance

In 1943 the goal was for strategic bombing to destroy industry and stop the German war machine. it failed.

Strategic bombing drew a lot of German troops into Air defense. Troops that weren't driving tanks or being industry.  It also drew a lot of high tech firms into making AA radars who could have been producing other things. Over one million Germans were committed to air defense.

The US realized to make strategic bombing effective they'd have to destroy the Luftwaffe. They pretty much destroyed most of the German fighters by D-Day.  So strategic bombing gave the allies air superiority, which enabled reconnaissance, close air support, protected the ground troops, allowed the US to commit very few troops into antiaircraft, and enabled rapid resupply like the red ball express where noone gave a shit about things like camouflage.

Starting around 1944 the Allies shut down German fuel industry, which hampered their tanks, cut training to zero, and enabled wins at battles like Arrancourt as German tankers couldn't train as they had little to no spare gas for training. And in maneuver battles in the East, and the Battle of the Bulge, tanks getting abandoned as they ran out of gas was increasingly common.

There were significant impacts to German industry and weapons, but its hard to quantify that as the Germans were very inefficient in 1943, cleaned up their act in 1944 while being bombed, and while bombing had an impact there were so many variables its hard to quantify.

Ploesti 1943 was an ineffective failure and actually, it was German hydrogenation, which I'm sure as you well know is partial conversion of coal into liquid fuels by treatment with hydrogen gas under pressure, that needed to get targeted to shut down the German petroleum production capabilities. Far more critical was the IG Farben synthetic oil facility at Leuna. Naturally.

Other then that...well, whatever.

Thankfully, the Russian Orc Air Force is complete hot garbage and cant replicate a bombing offensive designed by planners who are no longer alive.

One thing that sucks about this war is hiw much its divided us here, and I'm to blame also for that. I've attacked other for being Russian shills etc. Because I whole heartedly believe that the Ukrainians need all the help we can give them.  But I don't want to make the divide wider here between members.  Trolls excluded of course. But I do recognize that others may have a differing opinion than myself but doesn't mean they are not just as American as me. Just my 2 cents carry on

Guys, with the recent developments in Ukraine I think we need to try to refocus on the war and stop responding to trolls and asshats. It's going to be hard enough to find info on what's happening.

Imho, it’s overdue. Putin and the Russians can’t be allowed to abide. The question remains how to get that done w/o a great conflagration. We and others have forces in-country, I’m about 98% sure.

We blew the Germans transporation system to hell.  They made all kinds of equipment, they just couldn't get it anywhere.

It was mainly the railroads. You aren't going to drive a 100 new Panthers hundreds of kilometers to the battle.  They already lost enough to breakdowns.

Artillery is not "imprecise".

Being able to put 18 dumb HE rounds fired by 18 different howitzers all impacting at the same time into a spot the size of a half dozen parking spaces 10 miles away is not exceedingly difficult.

Now, the way the USSR uses artillery-yes, that is imprecise.  They have always been about the massed "barrages".

United Kingdom's MOD daily update for 4/18 as posted on Twit. (Admittedly unexciting, but the Brits gave UA useful stuff, so I'm giving them a pass for not publicizing all the details they might know.) Map looks unchanged and I really don't expect to see changes in the MOD map unless there are major movements.

Me thinks Russia is blowing its load prematurely by starting this now. They just retreated in a lot of areas still licking their chops. No way they’ve had enough time to properly regroup and resupply. Smells like a desperate attempt before the May 9th deadline. I’m pretty sure Ukraine knew this was coming and has been preparing accordingly.

Far more critical was the IG Farben synthetic oil facility at Leuna. Naturally.

Other then that...well, whatever.

Thankfully, the Russian Orc Air Force is complete hot garbage and cant replicate a bombing offensive designed by planners who are no longer alive.

What I stated and you ignored and went off on a tirade in a different direction on a different subject never once addressing my point..

Let me repeat, the strategic bombing campaign to destroy German industry and terrorize civilians was a failure.

All other things are not part of my statement and do not address my point at all.

Up until the final days of WWII Germany was producing weapons, Jets, Me 109s, FW190s, Tigers/panthers etc and other panzers new U-Boats type XXI and XXIII
Panzers were literally coming off the assembly line and driving down the street to engage us. Fighters were left unflown for lack of pilots, Small arms workers were actually running out the back door of factories while American troops were coming through the front doors.
Germany never lacked weapons to wage war until the very last day so it was a wasted effort

Besides the saturation bombing at Normandy (That was decisive) and the attacks on the fuel industry the only thing the Americans and British did was commit genocide of women and children.
If that was the goal then we succeeded. If genocide was not the goal and stopping Germany from making weapons to wage war then it was a failure

BTW I never met my uncle John. He was a crewman on a B17 in the Eighth Army Airforce and was killed on a mission to Germany

#1: fuck Russia.

#2. They fucked up trying to attack on 19 different fronts against superior numbers without complete air superiority. The dumbest shit you could do was maximize the miles of your forces within reach of ambushes. Completely exposed Supply columns on 47 different roads going in 75 different directions. Fucking idiocy.

#3. They should’ve had one front on each side of kyiv.  Forced Ukraine to mass and attack. You could have had protected supply lines and limited frontline troops. Narrowed the area where your air force had to dominate. Mass your own artillery. The Donbas and crimea would have been an invasion in being that tied up tons of ukraines troops. THAT would have been an effective feint. Surround Kiev and you’ll have at a minimum of something to negotiate with. Leave civilians in for a while to allow them to eat Kyiv dry then allow a corridor for them to leave as a propaganda tool. After that??? After talks and warning and evacuations and Ukraine doesn’t capitulate? Bombs away and artillery away. The ultimate bargaining chip.

Now, the way the USSR uses artillery-yes, that is imprecise.  They have always been about the massed "barrages".

It hits areas, not targets

You last paragraph is inaccurate.

Lol, this is just about the only thread in GD that is majority pro-Ukraine.

And that is plucking sad.

It is. And it is.

We all need to say a little prayer tonight for the Ukrainian people. The days ahead will be tough.
