+moar planes.

But the loss rate will cripple russias Air Force unless they basically stop flying. Which might be what is happening.

I think they can only sustain a few weeks underway and just return to port to resupply. They've done this at least once already. My guess is they need to keep a credible threat of an amphibious landing in order to keep UA troops tied up defending Odesa instead of being deployed to the fighting elsewhere. So they'll be trolling around the Black Sea to keep up this posture and try to avoid attracting more Neptune missiles.

You mean systemic blind optimism, propaganda, and lies all lead to poor decision-making?  Who knew?
I wish I thought that this would be the start of some real self-reflection by Russians on their course of action, but I don’t.  It’s only because the situation is making those talking heads look bad to their audience.

The more planes though is just theoretical since it hasn’t manifested itself over Ukrainian air space since the first few days.

Either they can’t manage high tempo operations with their shit tier engines, they are afraid of Ukrainian air defenses (and their SEAD has obviously failed from the get go) or their operational losses are higher than reported, or all three.

Regardless, the Russian air campaign is a lot like their artillery campaign - a terror campaign aimed at the civilians that doesn’t do much of anything to degrade Ukrainian military capability.

We are close to three months and the Russians haven’t fixed any of their initial day issues that would lead to a successful conclusion of their “special military operation”.

STOCKHOLM, May 15 (Reuters) - Sweden's ruling Social Democrats said on Sunday they backed the country joining NATO, abandoning decades of opposition in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine and creating a large parliament majority in favour of membership.

With neighboring Finland already set to hand in its application, Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson is now all but certain to launch a formal application within days.

"The party board has at its meeting on May 15, 2022 decided that the party will work toward Sweden applying for membership in NATO," the Social Democrats said in a statement.

Joining NATO was a distant prospect just months ago, but Russia's attack on Ukraine has prompted both Sweden and Finland to rethink their security needs and seek safety in an alliance they stood apart from during the long Cold War.

The war in Ukraine, which Moscow calls a special military operation but which has already killed thousands and displaced millions, shattered long-standing security policies and fueled a wave of public support for NATO membership in both countries.

In Finland, President Sauli Niinisto on Sunday confirmed the country's intentions to apply, saying the region would benefit.

The Social Democrat party also said they were opposed to stationing nuclear weapons or permanent NATO military bases in Sweden.

Sweden's ruling party backs joining NATO, paving way for bid

It’s a crushing blow for Russian “foreign policy by intimidation.”  Everything Putin said he was against he has brought about by his own actions.  This will enter the history books as possibly the worst political/military decision of the modern era.  The most appropriate analogy is Japan’s decision to bomb Pearl Harbor and engage in a war they could not possibly win, and which could only result in their destruction.  Social and cultural issues played a strong role in Japan’s decision, as in Russia’s decision.  Kleptocratic rule, “Russian avos”, systemic lies and propaganda, totalitarian “yes-man” decision-making, and so on all played a role.  Maybe history will continue to rhyme and if the Russians are beaten badly enough, real change can finally happen.  I hope it does.
Sweden and Finland joining NATO can’t be swept under the rug domestically.  Putin’s been flogging the NATO bugbear too long for them to say, “and in other news, insignificant Finland joins something somewhere.”  However, with the escalating losses in Ukraine, Russia is in position to do jack shit about it.  All they can do is posture, and Europe is done with that.
We will probably not hear anything about it for a while, but I believe this will seal Putin’s fate internally.  The Russian elites may have been willing to see how Ukraine played out, but their position just became significantly worse.  I think we’ll continue to see the same nuclear dick-flogging we have from the start, right up until someone puts a bullet in Putin’s head.  I’m betting on the Army.  Putin and his FSB cronies have been fucking up Russia for 30 years, and they fucked the Russian Army in Ukraine.  KGB/FSB rule has been a disaster for Russia.  The Army has the power and the credibility in Russian society to take action for the good of the nation.

The problem is you’re giving equal weight to Russian media.

The same ones who claimed the dead in Bucha that were tied up, raped, and shot in the head were all killed by UA artillery.

There is a continual influx/stream of accounts all over the internet and here that claim neither side should be believed because of the “Rah, Rah! Ghost of Kiev” embellishment of UA being equal to the Russian video recorded mass murder denial.

They ain’t equal….yet you’ll have people dig their heels into the ground over that as if they are

You have to deprive it of oxygen to put it out, which means water doesn't work.

Plenty of pics of its effects online.
