The 150 kilovolt (kV) back-up line was made available to the ZNPP again after the repair of an electrical switchyard at a nearby thermal power plant, a few days after it was damaged by shelling that also plunged the city of Enerhodar into darkness. This means that all three back-up power lines to the ZNPP – Europe’s largest nuclear power plant – have been restored over the past few days. One of them, a 750/330 kilovolt (kV) line, is now providing the ZNPP with the external electricity it needs for cooling and other essential safety functions. The 330 kV and the 150 kV lines are being held in reserve. All the ZNPP’s six reactors are in a cold shutdown state, but they still require power to maintain necessary safety functions. As a result of the repair of the switchyard, some people in Enerhodar – which suffered a complete blackout last week – are again receiving electricity. While the thermal power plant is not operating, its switchyard can be used to access electricity from the Ukrainian network. https://www.iaea.org/newscenter/pressreleases/update-102-iaea-director-general-statement-on-situation-in-ukraine View Quote There are so many minor things in Ukraine that are keeping the big picture together. Only if someone drives on it and sees a detour and makes a not on google maps does it show up... or if you have multiple people driving on it really slow with GPS turned on. As Ukraine gains ground, eventually they will have a choice. Do they make a play for Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk? At what cost is it to regain what was lost in 2014? What do they do if Russia pulls back to the 2014 regions? What do they do if Russia continues to lob missiles from inside of Russia? US and Western support will at least lose some of its bravado for strikes inside Russia. This could also be something that compels Putin to use a nuke. In any case, keep fighting the good fight Ukraine, it is astounding to watch the Russians get destroyed by their smaller neighbors. Maybe the first few days of March. I would like to know how much the Russian TV spots are scripted by the FSB clique. The criticism right now seems to be shifting to blaming the army for its poor leadership and readiness. In addition to this guy blaming an emphasis of special forces encouraged by a previous reformer, "Boris" yesterday was complaining that no one had given Putin the correct information on the state of the army. That could be setting up the army to take the fall for the whole mess. |

I was a cadet at West Point in the Russian department when the attempted coup happened in 1991. It was a huge time of change and uncertainty. It’s been a long time since I left the Army. Now my oldest son is a Russian major at the university of Florida, and the state department has already come calling twice. He wants to go to medical school. But I guess it’s good to have potential job security?
I spent most of my young life training to fight Russia. It’s quite something to see the Ukrainians do it and to live vicariously through them. I hope the Ukes continue to stack orc bodies. |
