Given their ingenuity, I predict if this war drags on for another year, UA will be fielding some version of a slaughterbot by then.

Certainly some updates have been done to the system.

I can't see an SA-8 without thinking of Conflict on NES.

I bet Putin will not be going out on that boat in the future. It would be a death sentence due to all of the people he wronged. Someone would get him.

They were sent to the front lines a week after they were mobilized, and killed a week later.

From what I understand, pentagon doesn't count Wagner, lpr, dpr or other sub groups that account for quite a bit of the casualties.

Vice World News | Elon Musk Spoke to Putin Before Tweeting Ukraine Peace Plan: Report

Elon Musk spoke directly with Russian President Vladimir Putin before tweeting a proposal to end the war in Ukraine that would have seen territory permanently ceded to Russia, it has been claimed.

In a mailout sent to Eurasia Group subscribers, Ian Bremmer wrote that Tesla CEO Musk told him that Putin was “prepared to negotiate,” but only if Crimea remained Russian, if Ukraine accepted a form of permanent neutrality, and Ukraine recognised Russia’s annexation of Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia.

According to Bremmer, Musk said Putin told him these goals would be accomplished “no matter what,” including the potential of a nuclear strike if Ukraine invaded Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014. Bremmer wrote that Musk told him that “everything needed to be done to avoid that outcome.”

Last week, Musk posted essentially the same points on Twitter, although he suggested that the referendums in the annexed territories slammed as sham votes by Ukraine and the West be redone under supervision by the United Nations.

Musk earlier this year challenged Putin to single combat and said that he had spoken to Putin via video conference last year, making no mention of this more recent reported chat with the Russian president. He became popular in Ukraine in the early stages of the war by dispatching his Starlink internet terminals to keep the country’s military connected after Russia’s invasion.

Bremmer wrote that Musk said he had refused a Ukrainian request to activate Starlink in Crimea. According to UK newspaper the Financial Times, Ukrainian forces have reported connectivity issues as they continue their counteroffensive into areas previously held by Russian forces in the east and north-east of the country. Musk responded by criticising the FT’s reporting, saying that what happens on the battlefield is “classified.”

The Ukrainian response to Musk’s Twitter peace proposal was succinct – one diplomat told him to “fuck off,” while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy posted his own Twitter poll.

Meanwhile the Kremlin welcomed Musk’s “positive” proposal to end the war, while his tweets were also cited by Russian state media.

Musk says he is still pro-Ukraine, but just trying to avoid nuclear war.

Tesla and Musk have been contacted for comment.

Don’t forget that most modern US fighters have a cost per flight hour of 40k$ or larger, while a predator UAV is 1/20 that. Parts wear out rapidly and the cost is immense.

The desire to chase Uber performing fighters have priced air forces to ridiculous levels.  In terms of capacity, it is clear that UAVs and precision artillery is more effective. It really was apparent ten years ago.  We have had many many threads on this in the past.  Manned CAS is approaching a dead end.  Costs drive the number of manned aircraft down, they have less response time, and a cheap UAV and a PGK kit can do it for less, with no significant error probability, then the cost of an hour of flight time

False, as usual. Like Russia, anything Belarus says publicly is likely untrue, and the given reasons are rarely the actual reasons.

Putin is pressuring Belarus.  It appears he plans to reopen the northern front.

But, why not give Belarus something to worry about?  Why not hold massive Polish war games right on the border?

Belarus weaponized refugees against Poland.  OK - that’s unconventional and asymmetrical.

Why not send Polish planes into their airspace? Probe their defenses? “Leak” secret invasion plans?

Maybe then they will reconsider turning over their military hardware to Pooty.

For now, Belarus has chosen to side with Putin.  Let’s make them re-think that decision.

Here is a message from the "Drofa" team for the people of Kherson:flag-ua: and our readers: Dear friends! The Drofa team and the founders of the project are forced to say goodbye to you for a while. On October 7, 2022, the plant was seized by local collaborators under the leadership of Igor Semenchev (the Russian "just" peace has come). Some people stayed to work (the situation in the city is difficult, so we have no complaints against them), some left, and some simply refused to cooperate. Therefore, you should understand that this is no longer Drofa, but simply stolen beer from the factory (which has already been brewed) and it is not clear what will happen in the future (when they try to brew "something" on their own) Be careful! Everyone who made an effort to take our bird will definitely answer for what they did! :point_right: Только новости from Kherson

Reminds me of another well fortified line in France right before WW2.  It'll be about as useful.

UA will launch massive distributed probing attacks to pin the Russians in place.  Eventually a soft spot will be found and the main attack will stream through.  And once UA is through the line the Russkies are fucked.  The lines are just too long to be adequately manned - and without good ISR the Russians have no idea where the UA is building up their schwerpunkt.

This is why the people stopped building castles.

How useful are fixed minefields, trench lines and dragon teeth going to be for the Russians? It seems like while they would make it much harder for the Ukrainians to do lightning attacks through them, they now have to place manpower and equipment in static positions that can picked off with precision artillery, Himars etc. Those fixed positions would need to be supplied as well.

I remember pointing out EARLY in this thread that tanks are in trouble.  I had mentioned that if you were doing this on the cheap, then 3 dudes playing peek-a-boo in a pick-up with a Jav and a drone will beat the crap out of some tanks.

Just anti-Musk disinfo. Probably from a Twitter user unhappy about losing their private echo chamber. Musk was  asked if it was true:
