They shouldn’t have prioritized grinder over Whalen. Bad signal. Russia wanted Blount bad, we didn’t play hardball. We traded a GRU asset for a Russian employed basketball player who brought cannabis extract knowingly to Russia This was just a LBGT rights Pat on the back. We shouldn’t play trade when one is guilty of killing thousands for a NBA player employed in Russia. Like trading for that twit who goes to Nork every few years or for Segal. If anything it should be first come first served in Trades. Was Whalen an asset? If so he should be priority. If not he’s there falsely for 4 years and is head of the line. |

On mine, if I lose connectivity between the drone and controller, the drone will rise up to 100M and fly to where it took off, and land. I presume they are overpowering the RF link and spoofing the controller to force it to land. Once it is on the ground, you pull the battery or push the power button twice, and it shuts off. Also, references tended to be inconsistent wrt launchers, or batteries. Three generations of them -some already retired. Could not determine if the gen 2 (2005-2019) was upgradeable, or not. It seems the systems delivered were gen 2 (not confirmed). If someone knows about NASAMS in detail that’s open, that would be helpful. |

I don't have any idea about their ease of use or maintenance, but I have heard that they are better than UAH for mine/IED resistance, but not quite as good as MRAPs. And surprise surprise, since they weigh about in between a UAH and an MRAP, you would expect about that kind of performance. Some things you can just tell by the way they look. Having a dual Mk19 and 50cal in a turret is good; but do they have a reliable supply of ammo and enough know-how to maintain those (new to them) weapons? The dismount ratio is a little more favorable than the UAH (on paper, 3 crew and 5 dismounts), but does that work in practice? Dudes wear and carry a lot of shit in winter time. Now...I was shocked to see the Ukrainians basically bum-rush occupied villages with UAH, so I am pretty worried that they will try to misuse the ASVs too, but...the Russians suck so bad that they *might* be able to get away with it. That isn't any way to plan or conduct missions if you want to live very long though. Bottom line, we probably have a lot of ASVs in storage, and whatever their faults, they beat the hell out of soft skin SUVs and fucking minivans that we have seen before. I am sure the Ukrainians are smart enough to figure out what works best for them. This is one of the fucking weird themes I feel like I have heard from critics of aid to Ukraine: like the Ukrainians would just drive a vehicle or burn up ammo "because it was free"?? No dude, I don't think any sane human being drives even a "free" vehicle towards certain death, or tries to draw fire toward themselves with "free" ammo...because I'm pretty sure people tend to want to live. Maybe the Russians do that, but what a weird critique. View Quote Some errors here. It is not 3+5. It has a gunner in a one man turret, driver and tc in the front, and two shitty seats near the turret. Getting out quickly is a prayer. I rode in one one time and it is the worst ride for a dismount of them all…save a BRDM or BMP. Survivability is really bad. Look at it. The TC and driver are right by the front wheels and an AT mine will kill them. Lots of guys could survive a UAH mine strike on a front turret as the armor extends downward to behind the engine. I’ve seen UAH engines completely destroyed with no casualties. The crappy 3x scope is better then a UAH or M113 free gunner. It has bad traffic ability because of wheels. A little better then a Stryker as the Stryker engine sits out there on the nose and ground pressure on the lead axle is high. Bad bad fire control. Better then a free gun, worse then a Stryker or Bradley. No dismounts. It was sorta useful in 2006. After we got MRAPs and MATVs with CROWS, it sucks. Compared to anything else, except a Toyota Tacoma, it is solidly last. It is okay for long range fires if you had one or two, and a couple humvees. That’s it. |

Dumb question. Besides nasams in DC do we have SAM installations near Whiteman, Minot, etc? Or do the oceans and other systems solve that issue? This might help explain some, it is from 2017 and we leaped a bit in capability since then. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://media.defense.gov/2020/Jun/22/2002319425/-l/-I/I/LAYERED-HOMELANDMISSILE-DEFENSE-FINAL.PDF&ved=2ahUKEwjv9qO51-r7AhWlGzQIHToYC_QQFnoECBEQAQ&usg=AOvVaw1EbfoSzT8qcVTDtzml2hdh I would expect an airbase with over 100 nuclear weapons to have layered defenses. Just a word of caution to everyone that tries to analyze an event based on only a few data points, like a video of an explosion.
I’ve been involved in numerous investigations of major accidents resulting in millions of dollars in damage and a few lost lives. It’s been mostly in power plants and some refineries, pipelines and chemical plants. We would spend days interviewing people, collecting historical data from control systems, sequence of events recorders, annunciators, cameras, historians and whatever other instrumentation that’s available. With all that data and most of it time stamped to three decimal places, you would think that you could lay it out and it would paint a good picture of what happened. More often than not it wouldn’t or the data would point to two different outcomes. Just remember that whatever you see and think you know about something, it may be incorrect. Just food for thought. |
