They have lots of dumb bombs and so do the poles etc.

Or his groin he was rolling on the ground holding that area.   Or it blew his guts out
Either way, he probably didn’t survive the trip to whatever aid station the Russians have

That was absolutely a big part of that visit to the front lines.

They are pretty good at producing demoralizing media (demoralizing to the russians).  Even from the beginning when they showed the bakery truck making fresh bread for their army,  and the mobiks get squat to take with them and probably never get much resupply

ISW assessment for December 20th.

https://www.understandingwar.org/backgrounder/russian-offensive-campaign-assessment-december-20

The pace of Russian advances in the Bakhmut area has not increased in previous weeks. ISW assesses that Russian forces have gained a total of 192 sq km in the Bakhmut area between October 1 and December 20. Russian forces gained 100 sq km in the Bakhmut area between October 1 and November 1 and 92 sq km between November 1 and December 20. The pace of Russian advances in the Bakhmut area over the past 50 days is roughly equivalent to the pace of Russian advances during the month of October. Russian sources will likely continue to try to falsely assert that Russian forces are taking a notable amount of territory in the Bakhmut area.

OK, how about a nice titanium grinding swarf or turnings fire at VSMPO in Verhnaya Salda, now!
Maybe a chlorine release too in their ore reduction facility.
The crew on the ISS would be able to see that one from space.

It involves glide kits on the bombs so that they can be dropped at low altitude and lofted like the pilots are used to doing with rockets, or from behind friendly lines at higher altitudes.   The GPS coordinates will probably be setup on trench lines and hardened positions and you can pummel the Russians with 500 to 2000 lb bombs that will hit what you want.  This could enable Ukrainian offensives to gain more ground.

Without the glide kits, they can still loft them onto the targets, but they'll get closer to the threats as well.

There's huge stockpiles of bombs, and the guidance kits are cheap.  You'll save on artillery use and the strikes with 2,000 lb bombs would be devastating.

That's the ironic part. Someone bans leftist political parties undermining his nation and kills Commies, like some on this board have said should be done for years, and then a bunch here get their panties up their crusty camel toe when someone actually does it.

Have you ever looked closely at our Mk 80 series bombs and Soviet FAB series bombs? I suggest you do and then look at what a JDAM kit is.

More than likely Ukraine has or will receive NATO spec dumb bombs to attach the kits to.  Poland makes them and would probably be more than happy to hand some over.

Has anybody posted David Ignatius recently? I can't read every page.

Ignatius is a longtime Washington Post writer on foreign policy. He has a pair of recent pieces about how Ukraine is leveraging technology as a force multiplier to get better results against the orcs. How the algorithm tipped the balance in Ukraine. Here's some of it:
This is the “wizard war” in the Ukraine conflict — a secret digital campaign that has never been reported before in detail — and it’s a big reason David is beating Goliath here. The Ukrainians are fusing their courageous fighting spirit with the most advanced intelligence and battle-management software ever seen in combat.

“Tenacity, will and harnessing the latest technology give the Ukrainians a decisive advantage,” Gen. Mark A. Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told me last week. “We are witnessing the ways wars will be fought, and won, for years to come.”

I think Milley is right about the transformational effect of technology on the Ukraine battlefield. And for me, here’s the bottom line: With these systems aiding brave Ukrainian troops, the Russians probably cannot win this war.
...
“For us, it’s a matter of survival,” argues “Stepan,” the senior Ukrainian officer in the Kyiv demonstration, who before the war designed software for a retail company. Now, he tells me bluntly, “Our goal is to maximize target acquisitions.” To protect his identity, he stripped his unit insignia and other markings from his camouflage uniform before he demonstrated the technology. (The names he and his colleague used were not their real ones; I agreed to their request of anonymity to protect their security.)

“Lesya,” the other officer, was also a computer specialist in peacetime. As she looks at the imagery of the Russian invaders, on a day when their drones are savaging civilian targets in Odessa on Ukraine’s southern coast, she mutters a wish for revenge — and a hope that Ukraine will emerge from the war as a tech power. Although the Ukrainians now depend on technology help from the United States, she says, “by the end of the war, we will be selling software to Palantir.”

Probably easier to do than HARMs. Same with laser guided bombs probably. I am assuming if they can throw a tacked on screen and run wires/power to it, you can slap a targetting pod of your choice and use a western laser guided bomb.

Even basic JDAM/laser guided munitions would be a huge help. Much better than lobbing rockets at an open field. The big problem will still be enemy fighters.

I can't imagine any bullpup kit will be anything more than a half functional solution. If you want a bullpup design it from the ground up.

Finished reading it. "Wizard War" indeed! Sounds like it makes BFT look like Etchasketch.

And it's heartening to know that if this system is this effective against the rigidly structured Russian forces, it would likely fare as well (and better when we're utilizing its full capabilities) against similarly structured Chinese forces.

Of course it roused the troops and rallied his nation but that trip was a PR masterpiece in the worldwide propaganda war with Putin.

And the contrast plays far far beyond the pathetic disgusting commercials Russia has been making.

Putin has spent years crafting his image as a tough guy.  He's the guy who wrestles bears and rides horses bare chested. Immense sums of money have been spent to plant the idea in peoples minds that Putin is the very embodiment of the Russia stronk platitude.  Putin has had to do this because as a bully he's actually insecure and cowardly. He has to hide behind a fake image of machismo.

Zelensky just out machismo'd the bully.
Watcha' gonna do Vlad?

Checkmate.

They UAF might be able to use toss-bombing techniques with these to avoid SAM envelopes.  From high speed level flight at low altitude, pull up to 45 degrees and release.  Bomb will continue approximately 7-8 miles, enough to stay out of MANPAD range as well as systems like TUNGUSKA.
If they can get the flight profile nailed down and achieve good communication between attack aircraft and designator, they should be able to hit Russian targets with near impunity.

Checkmate.

C'mon Puti boy.

Don't be a pussy.
Be a man like Zelensky.
Come and hand out medals to your troops within artillery range of Bakhmut!...

I dare you...
I double dog dare you!

Pussy!

That was absolutely a big part of that visit to the front lines.

They are pretty good at producing demoralizing media (demoralizing to the russians).  Even from the beginning when they showed the bakery truck making fresh bread for their army,  and the mobiks get squat to take with them and probably never get much resupply

Not pathetic commercials with 50 year old dad re enlisting so he can buy daughter a cell phone.  Or keep a Lada

That’s a good point which got some confirmation in the recent big NYT article.  Reportedly since 2018 (before the invasion) Putin started to personalize his animosity toward Zelensky, because Zelensky proved not to be the lightweight that Putin expected and hoped for.  Now Zelensky is proving to be the courageous leader that Putin pretended to be over 20 years.  That must really stick in his craw.

I think a lot of that is a smokescreen for our own internal conflicts over various issues; from technology Russia will acquire in captures and debris, conflicts over budget, conflicts over support, providing SMEs and advisors, using up our stockpiles… the list probably goes on and on.  I’m sure there are people in our military and political space pushing hard against supporting Ukraine and there is a whole lot of backroom talk over everything.

I started but can’t handle kid torture stuff right now, been on the edge for a few days. The kids stuff just pushes me to far. I know what they do to kids, I can’t loose my job and run off to fight.
