I think it would be a good upgrade from what they have.

For reference, a public armor map of a Challenger 2.   Try to stay hull down and it's hard to beat head on.

T-80U for comparison.

T-72M

Bonus T72B3 manual.

That's a concern of mine as well.  In Iraq, a Bradley's greatest threats were, what?  Daytime exposure to a T-72 or RPG-7?  Racing into an undetected minefield?  Besides, didn't we have more Bradleys damaged by friendly fire than enemy action?

Russia may be incompetent, but they still have a lot of gear that works, and in large numbers.  Recall that a militia of Somali retards with RPGs were able to down 2 Black Hawks- not because they were skilled, but because they launched a huge quantity of RPGs into the air.  I think Bradleys in Ukraine could take substantial losses to packs of ATGM teams for the same reason.

All that said, I would *still supply* a bunch of our "spare" Bradleys (that is, in excess of 100) to Ukraine and wish them the best. We could end up being completely wrong, and the IFVs could slice through Russia's lines and drive them into a rout unlike anything we've seen so far in-country.  And I promise you that I'd celebrate if it was so.

Seeing their continued incompetence, is it now any surprise that they dumped "elite" spetsnaz forces into the water during the opening hostilities?

Between this and the complete lack of maintenance of their stolen western aircraft, it must take a complete lack of awareness to willingly board one of these scrap heaps.

Any enemy with standoff distance and ATGMs is going to inflict losses on armor. If the Iraqi and Afghan insurgents we fought had consistent access to ATGMs (we worked very hard diplomatically to ensure that wasn't the case), our armor would've taken much heavier losses. I have no doubt that plenty of Western armor is going to get destroyed in Ukraine, as that's the nature of the beast in conflicts like this. I don't view potential losses as a reason not to equip them with Western armor.

Unfortunately there is no mechanism for that AFAIK. Turkey, Hungary, and Germany would be prime candidates for removal. Turkey's geography makes it important, though, which IIRC is why it was welcomed into NATO in the first place. They increasingly have become an adversary to the U.S. and the West in general. Germany's geography also kinda makes it important.

Then create a mechanism for it, or dissolve NATO and reinvite the countries you want in the new version.    At least from what I can see and read Turkey seems to be cozying up to Russia and be directly against what a lot of NATA was created for.

Sometimes Russia sounds like German arrogance and the Chinese approach to industry had an FAS baby that was then dropped on its head.  But other times they do semi-impressive stuff.

Which leaves us to speculate.  But we have some anecdotal evidence:

- take another look at the quotes Jack67 took the time to post in the middle of page 3288.

Personally, I do not believe the actual T-62s and T-72s which are physically present in Ukraine right now, will stay in the fight for long after receiving a burst of 25mm fire from a Ukrainian Bradley.  If nothing else, the exterior view ports and sensors on a T-72 will be quickly scrubbed off if hit by a Bradley’s 25mm.  More distant Russian tanks face the TOW.

As for doubts about setting things on fire, it’s not classified as to what DU does if it manages to penetrate: it becomes a potent incendiary.

Only time will tell for sure.  I believe the 50+ Bradleys will eventually be game changers, negating nearly all of Russia’s armor.

That mortar-round drop video is fascinating.

Notice how the stretcher-bearers take 2 or 3 steps right after the detonation?

It is almost like the chicken who continues to run even after it’s been decapitated.

More likely:  the leg bones were not shattered or broken by the point-blank blast, and the leg muscles momentarily still functioned, as did the brain and CNS.

But within 3 seconds, the front 2 soldiers collapsed.

Blood loss?  Shock?

Every mortar man should watch that video.
