There's a fairly noteworthy amount of Russian political culture that is openly anti-Semitic. There's been a big push in Russia to view Bolshevism as having been a Jewish conspiracy, you can find plenty of examples of Russian nationalists talking about how Ukraine is controlled by the Jews, etc. When Putin rambles about Satanists, I'm reasonably sure that's just a dog whistle for anti-Semitic Russian nationalists. Ultimately, I think that stuff like this is a large part of the reason that the Western alt-right (I'm not using the left's definition of alt-right here) supports Russia. |
