Basically a former Communist Party member, leader of leftist coalition and pro-Russia on all things except invasion of Crimea.

Why these little countries such as Slovakia and Hungary think it is a winning hand to slobber up Putin piss while being an ass to larger neighbors is weird. Betting on a losing old nag about to meet the glue factory. Enjoy your winnings!

Slovakia (/sloʊˈvækiə, -ˈvɑːk-/
Slovak: Slovensko [ˈslɔʋenskɔ] ⓘ), officially the Slovak Republic (Slovak: Slovenská republika [ˈslɔʋenskaː ˈrepublika] ⓘ), is a landlocked country in Central Europe. It is bordered by Poland to the north, Ukraine to the east, Hungary to the south, Austria to the west, and the Czech Republic to the northwest. Slovakia's mostly mountainous territory spans about 49,000 square kilometres (19,000 sq mi), with a population of over 5.4 million.

Robert Fico
Fico joined the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia in 1986, having applied in 1984. After the Velvet Revolution of 1989, and the collapse of the communist regime in Czechoslovakia, Fico joined the Party of the Democratic Left (SDĽ), a successor of the Communist Party of Slovakia. He was first elected as a Member of Parliament in 1992. From 1994 to 2000 Fico represented Slovakia as its legal counsel at the European Court of Human Rights but lost all 14 cases which he handled.[10] In 1998 he was elected deputy chairman of the party. Later the same year, Fico ran for the post of general prosecutor, but his party endorsed another candidate instead, arguing Fico was too young.[11]

In the 1998 elections that saw the fall of the government of Vladimír Mečiar, Fico received the biggest number of preferential votes among his party colleagues. A year later, when support for the SDĽ dropped below the threshold required to get into parliament, he left the party, saying he was disappointed with the way the government worked.[11] Fico acted as an independent MP until the 2002 elections.

As early as in the autumn of 1998, a four-person group consisting of Fico, his associate Frantisek Határ, political strategist Fedor Flašík, and media executive Monika Flašíková-Beňová had begun to discuss and lay plans for launching a new political party on the left. These plans were driven by the falling popularity of the existing parties, and the rising popularity of Fico.[7][12]

Almost immediately after leaving SDĽ, the group founded Direction – Social Democracy (SMER), which Fico first labelled a party of the third way, with himself as leader. Fico established himself as an opposition politician criticizing the unpopular reforms of the right-wing government of Mikuláš Dzurinda.[11] In order to keep SMER from repeating the fate of his previous party, Fico introduced a strict set of regulations for his new party, called the "clean hands" policy. The rules stipulated that no one with ties from the previous communist regime or people who had background with other political parties was allowed to hold party office. This created a new generation of politicians uninvolved in previous corruption scandals; among them was Monika Flašíková-Beňová, Robert Kaliňák and Pavol Paška.[7] Another rule was that all party chapters on the regional and local levels were to be 100% financially self-sufficient, and all financial donations were to be made public to the media.[12]

Between 2002 and 2006 Smer was the main opposition party in the Slovak parliament. In 2004, it merged with nearly all the leftist parties active on the Slovak political scene, including its parent party SDĽ, becoming the dominant single political party in Slovakia.

Compensating for his lack of close political allies within the EU (the former head of the Czech Social Democratic Party, Jiří Paroubek, being a notable exception), Fico sought to strengthen relations with several non-EU countries such as Serbia and Russia. This broke with a pro-NATO, Western-focused trend established after the 1998 Slovak election.[62]

After coming to power in 2006, Fico declared that Slovakia's relations with Russia would improve after eight years of "neglect." Fico referred to "Slavonic solidarity," which was a central theme of the Slovak National Awakening in the 1850s. On April 4, 2008, during a visit by Russian Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov, Fico said: "In Slovakia, there have been efforts to deliberately ignore Slavonic solidarity."[62] Slovakia modernised Russian MiG fighters in Russia and did not buy new jets from the West.[63] Additionally, Fico accused Georgia of provoking Russia when attacking South Ossetia in the 2008 Russia–Georgia war.[64] Under his premiership, the Slovak foreign ministry rejected the Crimean referendum which incorporated Crimea into Russia. Fico himself, however, remained silent on the issue.[65] In 2023, Fico iterated the stance that Crimean annexation was done in violation of international law. Simultaneously, he stated that the Ukrainian recapture of Crimea would not solve the Russo-Ukrainian War.[54] Regarding the EU sanctions against Russia in 2014, Fico denounced them as "senseless," and a "threat to the Slovak economy."[66] After the Russian invasion of Ukraine he was also critical towards European sanctions against Russia, arguing that the sanctions improve Russian autarky, practically only harm the Russian population and not the regime, and thath they harm European people.[54]

On 29 August 2022, during the celebration of the Slovak National Uprising, Fico invited the Russian diplomat Igor Bratchikov to speak on the stage. This was done despite the fact that Russia has put Slovakia on their black-list of countries after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Exactly.

With the common hobbyist tech out right now it should be fairly simply.

I fail to see why fucken Orban is excited for him.

He wants Hungarian rights to be curtailed including the parliamentary members who are Hungarians to be kicked out.
Wants Slovak languages for everyone and has pressed hard on the issue before and Orban whined to the EU about it being unfair..

His party even treats the gypsies pretty harshly also.

$30,000 ea. Very cheap compared to the Western approach. They are supposed to have a 2,000 km range (?). Not super sophisticated with sensors but being upgraded to microjet and tungsten BB warhead. Absolutely agree. This is the kind of thing in WWII Roosevelt would give to Singer Sewing Machine or Rock-O-La to stamp out by the thousands per week or day.

Shit, get Cessna or Honda or Mitsubishi 😱😱😱 to produce the 🇯🇵 Zero - Encore Edition drone!

No kidding, why hasn't there been anything similar made yet to give Ukraine? Besides cardboard drones from Australia. They should be launching 50 to 100 a night

I agree. But sadly, we don't produce anything in this country that is dirt simple and cheap because there just isn't any money to be made from stuff like that.

However, the realities this war is bringing to light may be slowly changing that mindset. We need the gold plated. But we also need great quantities of cheap and expendable items.

It was a fiasco, and the US stood back because we didn't want to seem like we were telling them what to do. I forget which arfcommer was talking about how badly the US botched relations with Russia in the 90s, and this was part of it. The US failed on Russia diplomatically time and time again, and the results are war and death.

Not entirely accurate. The Russians implemented the US recommendations which were to grant every citizen a privatization voucher valued at the cost of state assets divided by the population which the citizens were free to invest.
Unfortunately, the corruption turned the voucher privatization into a travesty (or a tragedy) where the people were cheated and bullied out of their vouchers in more ways than a forum post can contain. The end result was the eventual takeover of the national assets by the oligarchs. The word "voucher" became a sad joke and the names of the reformers responsible for the voucher privatization became dirty words.
The same happened in Ukraine.

I never heard of such vouchers. I learned something today and it didn’t even hurt!  Thanks for the background.

Second. Thanks for the added details. Sounds like exactly the hare-brained sort of garbage the State Dept would come up with.

Of course I also think there was a strategic mistake when wagner was pulling out and actively fighting with the russian military, that was the time to go for it. The russians in bakhmut never had the time to build massive defensive positions as they were pushing forward up to that point. Oh well, 20/20 hindsight in war.
View Quote

It's not 20/20 hindsight. Ukraine, as the weaker party, always needed to have lots of help as fast as possible. The only way for them to win is to get enough equipment donated, LOTS of it, at the earliest possible time. Zaluzhny was interviewed almost a year ago and said he needed several hundred tanks and armored vehicles to be successful. They didn't have them, so they weren't, so the Russians had plenty of time to dig in with the worlds most extensive and dense minefields, so Ukraine's "counteroffensive" has been a big fizzle. All because of the entirely predictable outcome of failing to provide a sufficient quantity of equipment in a timely fashion when it could have done the most good.

I get it, we would seriously deplete our own capability in key areas to give Ukraine what they need. But "kinda, sorta" helping Ukraine doesn't deal Russia the defeat they need. Biden got totally exposed when Zelensky said publicly, "I need ammo, not a ride." DC Establishment types wanted Ukraine to fold, but they didn't want to.

GD screams about how Biden supporting Ukraine means that "Ukebros" support Biden and are on the left, but the same guys will never admit that their stances on Ukraine align perfectly with how actual self-proclaimed communists view this war. The talking points about Nazis, NATO expansionism, the military industrial complex, etc. from the geniuses in GD identically mirror the far left.

The complete lack of self awareness should be a case study.

99% of those mouth breathers in GD are just following the first "edgy" "10 percent" for the big guy mouth breather in front of them, almost none of them have any historical logic in there arguments.  They are sheep that lap up the latest FJB, conspiracy, fuck Ukraine talking points without doing any critical thinking for themselves.

“Gazprom has never had such a low production rate in its entire history and that the last time there was similar figure was in the Soviet Union in 1978, a year when 372.1 bcm were produced”.

FILE: No Way Will Peaceful Russia Attack a NATO Country, Dude

EXHIBIT:  87+4

This is now FIVE major articles in just two days referencing Russia or its neighbors about actual attacks and impending attacks on Bulgaria, Romania, Latvia, Poland and Europe in general. Only the most news ignorant persons could claim Russia is NOT ALREADY AT WAR WITH NATO. Every single day the Russian TV programs remind us of this fact.

The only people not acknowledging that Russia is, and has been for years, directly attacking NATO countries and plans to ESCALATE ☢️☢️☢️ on their own timing are the West Europeans minus UK, Biden administration, New Guinea, Borneo, scallops on the Great Barrier Reef, and a faction of smooth brains in GD. And Justin Fidel Trudeau.

It’s war, baby, and has been for years. Had a nice nap? 😂

Russia is secretly mobilizing the entire country.

Maybe it's time to reassess the scale of Ukrainian mobilization," suggested the ex-head of the British Ministry of Defense.

Interesting. Russia announces only 130,000 to be conscripted this Autumn. There had been mentioned a few weeks ago it would be 400K and then 300K.

Might Russia really be mobilizing the larger numbers and trying to downplay it?  Because 130K is not enough to go on the offensive. But 400K would do it. That will be a lot of clusterized meat.

US Aid to Ukraine

At the last minute, the US government avoided a shutdown with a bill that will fund the government until mid-November. That bill stripped out the aid to Ukraine. There is no need to panic. There is strong support for aid to Ukraine in the senate and two days ago the house voted 311 to 117 for aid to Ukraine. The aid to Ukraine will be restored. If you’re thinking this is a crazy way to do business, you’d be right, but that’s the world we live in now. If you want a more detailed explanation of events, you can find it here: https://substack.com/inbox/post/137557521

Fico and Orban are like two street midgets that throw shoes at everyone nearby. Then throw tanttums because nobody is throwing gold coins back their way.

Each has about 30% more population than just the city of Kyiv or Warsaw. Actions have consequences. Ukraine won’t always be in a death struggle. But you guys will always be small potatoes in a large, lush field. Laugh while you can. Hopefully you get to enjoy the same economic fate as Russia. How cheap will that incredibly important Nuke plant be when Russia is collapsed and you can uranium from France if there is any left over.

Recall that Fico is a communist cum leftist leader. Orban tries to paint himself as an arch conservative. But he sure enjoys being friends with Putin and Fico. Come on Viktor, who’s  the Commie?
