The basic airframe can be had for under $200. Add in autopilot and links for about $1k. If they're getting a decent thermal camera for it for about a grand, that's a pretty good deal. I think I'd want a regular E/O camera to go with the IR with an on-board switch between the two. Some things are better seen in IR, some not so much.

❗️STRICTLY 18+ ❗️

Hard footage of Ukrainian Armed Forces losses

The Kamchatka Guards did us the honor and provided us with a whole half-hour film in which you can watch the defeat of the 35th Infantry Infantry Regiment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces during the attempt to take Novomayorskoye. The footage shows the events of the battles from September 5 to September 17, 2023, in chronological order. A number of episodes are filming from other angles of materials previously published by us (also many thanks to the 40th Guards for the footage), which can be found under the tag #Novomayorskoye, but most of this film is 100 percent unique episodes, documenting and revealing in more detail the feat of the Kamchatka Guardsmen , operating jointly with 30 and 200 artillery brigades, as well as special forces groups of the 14th Guards Brigade and detachments of the Cascade OBTF.

I would like to note the coordinated work of aerial reconnaissance, artillery, ATGM operators, attack drone pilots and other units, which made it possible to inflict accurate fire damage in a short time. Thanks to the saturation of the combat formations of the 40th Guards with various drones, the enemy was only able to cling to the northwestern outskirts with huge losses, manage to get ragged in shooting battles against marines from the DShB and "Storm", and ultimately be buried in pre-targeted positions that were easy for him. fed."

And a few words about the guardsmen of the 40th brigade. Heroes in black berets are talented not only in destroying the enemy, but also in providing information support for their own actions. Now these shots are a glorious story, the pages of which have become part of the glorious combat path of the 40th Guards Marine Brigade! Guys, you are heroes! Take care of yourself!🫡

I agree with you there.  I'm seeing some electronic interference noise in the thermal image too, if they can clean that up it would not only see better, it would give more head room for seeing while under electronic attack.

On the night of 6 October 2023, Russian forces once again attacked Ukraine using Shahed-type UAVs. TEXTY mapped the approximate movement of the drones, using on the data from
@war_monitor_ua
.

As reported by
@KpsZSU
, Russia launched 33 "Shaheds" from Cape Chauda in Russia-occupied Crimea, guiding them in several groups towards southern, eastern and central regions of Ukraine.

Southern defence forces revealed that the Russian aggressor employed the tactics of intricate maneuvers. The barrage ammunition changed course multiple times, repeatedly skirting along the state border.

"11 drones were intercepted by our air defence in the south: 3 in Odesa and 8 in Mykolayiv regions. The attack targeted the border and port infrastructure of Podunavye: a grain storage facility was damaged, and several cargo trucks caught fire that was promptly extinguished. No civilians were harmed," states the report.

In total, Ukraine's air defence neutralised 25 out of 33 "Shahed-131/136" UAVs, notably in the Odesa, Mykolayiv, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Cherkasy, and Zhytomyr regions.

I've had to use ferrites a number of times to clean up the RFI/EMI being generated on-board. Some cheap Chinesium parts are horrible wrt RFI. I had a 433Mhz telemetry link that was so bad, if I put a decent antenna on it, servos would start to jitter just sitting on the ground. Same unit on the ground station would cause the USB port it was plugged into to become unresponsive.

The Russian junior officer losses have been staggering, and the inability to conduct effective counter-attacks against the slow but steady Ukrainian advance resides partly in the fact that the Russian Army is running low on capable company commanders. The Russian Army’s intellectual capital and ability to lead offensive action have been slowly dying for twenty months.

Of those Russians, approximately 3,000 Russian company commanders and battalion staff members capable of leading a company that crossed the borders to Ukraine in February/march 2022, an estimate would assess that at least 70 % are either dead or wounded beyond returning to active duty.
The Twitter account “KIU • Russian Officers killed in Ukraine” (https://twitter.com/KilledInUkraine)

@KilledInUkraine
scans the Internet for Russian officer's death notices, obituaries, and other official signs of an officer killed in Ukraine. On the 1st of October, the number of captains and senior lieutenants death notices and obituaries had reached 1 339 KIA. In the Russian Army, captains and senior lieutenants are the company commanders. Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) offers on and off opportunities to validate the numbers; as an example, the Russian 108th Guards Kuban Cossack Air Assault Regiment (https://twitter.com/KilledInUkraine/status/1704812703817073035)

@KilledInUkraine
a list that named the regiment’s killed officers. Now, the regiment’s list had seventeen killed officers, of which the Twitter account had listed twelve “KIU • Russian Officers killed in Ukraine,” so five KIA officers had never been accounted for in the “Killed in Ukraine” tally. Russian special forces and security-agency-related units appear not disallow officer's death notices and obituaries, knowing that Ukrainians and others, track the losses. In several instances, Russian special forces have been used to take the initiative in urban fighting, resulting in massive losses (https://washingtonpost.com/national-security/2023/04/14/leaked-documents-russian-spetsnaz/). These officer losses are not visible through OSINT.

A fair assessment would likely be that 2 100 – 2 300 Russian company commanding capable officers are either dead or wounded beyond returning to active duty by estimating the unaccounted numbers and the severely wounded in action (WIA). Through war, the Russian logistic chain and embedded medical evacuation have been understaffed, inadequate, and too slow to react. Therefore, it is likely that the KIA/WIA ratio has a higher number of killed than other conflicts due to badly organized medical evacuation and resources.
The Russian mobilization has added officers, but the mobilized companies are led by often lower ranks than senior lieutenants and captains. Active-duty senior lieutenants and captains are needed for the permanent force, which still has higher capabilities than mobilized units with obsolete hardware pulled out from long-term storage.

Russian officers are specialists. An officer can spend his whole career on a single weapon system as S-400 air defense missiles or a single set of tasks. This produces narrowly specialized, knowledgeable officers with little adaptability or interchangeability in duties. Russian officers follow a career path in a single or closely related branch from beginning to end. An armor officer might lead mechanized infantry, and a paratrooper might lead reconnaissance, but significant career shifts —infantry to air defense— are extremely rare and nearly non-existent. So, the pool of mid-career officers who have experience in maneuver units is limited, even if the pool of officers is high.

A difference is also the utilization of Army civilians, so the chief librarian on a post in the US is a civilian, but in Russia, it is an officer. The Russian military bureaucracy is filled with desk officers doing tasks that the US utilizes Army civilians for – such as accounting, motor pool, warehouses, and human resources. A Russian officer stays in his/her domain until this point, but the losses in Ukraine have forced the Russian Army to pull out military academy professors, members of the strategic rocket forces (ICBM), artillery officers, and from all branches to serve in the infantry. Many Russian Infantry units, which are already beaten up without rotation and some are reorganized 2 – 3 times after heavy losses, are now led by officers that have very limited experience.

The scramble of officers from all branches is visible in the uniform patches gathered by Ukrainian infantry from fallen Russian officers, which range through all branches and military occupational specialties (MOS). The results are units that can do static defense – but are limited in any other action.
One of the main geopolitical risks Russia, an earlier the Soviet Union, posed was the opportunist fait-accompli attack with no to limited warning, whether it was the Suwalki Gap, far North, Gotland, or Turkish key terrain, which has been deflated.

The Russian offensive elite forces, the paratroopers VDV, and the Marine infantry are decimated beyond offensive capabilities, and even if there were new soldiers and equipment, those who should have trained the Russian elite and led them in offensive action have already died or been severely wounded. The massive Russian junior officer losses have increased the security of NATO and delayed the Russian Army’s ability to rebuild after this war.

We measure the Ukrainians’ success in their liberated km2, but the fact that the Russian Army has lost large parts of its intellectual capital and ability to conduct offensive operations is, for NATO, a good measurement stick as liberated territory. The absence of a potential adversary's capabilities is as good a deterrent as any.

#CPD_disproves:

❌ The Nigerian publication "THE NATION" is distributing photos of receipts for O. Zelenska's alleged purchases in jewelry stores during her official visit to the United States. The photo is also distributed by the Russian mass media.

✅ After verifying the information in the President's Office, the Center reports that it is a fake. The "cheque" shows the date of September 22, 2023, while on September 22, 2023, the First Lady and Volodymyr Zelenskyi were on an official visit to Canada, which makes it physically impossible for O. Zelenskya to be in the specified jewelry stores at the time indicated on the fake checks New York.

🔻 Canada was also preceded by an official visit to Washington, where the First Lady together with the President visited the Pentagon memorial in Washington, erected in honor of the 184 victims of the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, and held a number of meetings, including with Jill Biden.

ℹ️ This is not the first time that ru-propaganda spreads fakes through Nigerian publications. Previously, the enemy spread a fake about "Villa Zelenskyi" through the "PUNCH" publication.

An additional 53,000 borrowers will receive debt cancellation under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, which wipes away remaining student loan debt after qualifying public sector workers make 10 years' worth of monthly payments.

Nearly 51,000 borrowers, who have been in repayment for at least 20 years, are getting relief thanks to a recount of their past payments.

The program used has been in existence  since Bush was in office.

Since it was recently mentioned the importance of writing your reps to remind them that when dealing with Russia, weakness is escalation, in light of the speakership being up for grabs, I'd like to suggest also contacting your reps in proper nomination of a new speaker.

The two biggest names being seriously talked about right are Jim Jordan and Steve Scalise. Both are solid on domestic policy, likely Jordan being slightly moreso, but there's a stark contrast when it comes to defeating Russia.

It would probably be a good idea to let your reps know you'd like to see them nominate/support Steve Scalise for the speakership.

Not justifying anything. Simply point out that it wasn't some new thing that FJB used. I think it all should be cut. Only thing we should be spending money on is Defense of the physical territory of the USA and the Post Office. Everything else is out of the scope of what the founders intended.

Fun fact about those relentless text messages from Republican candidates who spam your phone no matter what you do-

I might be on to a solution. The most recent one was Jordan saying he needed patriots, and instead of typing STOP or reporting junk, I responded with

“Ukraine needs patriots.
And ATACMS”.

Either I’m seeing a decrease in volume or I’m enjoying myself enough that the texts aren’t as annoying

I can't find the document anymore, but as early as 1998 or 1999 the Swiss exactly predicted the threat from drones and UAVs the Ukrainians are facing now.

But the Gep. has been around since the 70's or 80's no? It was designed against manned aircraft like helo's....I remember seeing them back in the 80's.

I'm sure that modern developments in fire control and especially air-burst ammo makes them especially suited for anti-drone/Shaheed work.

Late 1970s.

Before the Mantis was ready the German industry built a fully remote controlled Gepard prototype - to counter drone attacks.

When the last upgraded Gepard prototype was ready, the German Gov. decided the decommission of all Gepards - because they weren't suitable for a modern battlefield.

A couple hundred pages ago the same principle was discussed but using Vodka.  It would actually work.

Absolutely would. That's why our enemies invest in pumping it across our border. Low cost high yield way to kill or destabilize fighting age males
