I really want to see the transcript of that talk. I really have strong feelings about Medvedev.

100% right about Kyiv. Russia's entire claim to existing for 1000 years is based on Kievan Rus being Russian and not Ukrainian progenitors. They call it the mother of all Russian cities. So odd that he would show Kyiv as Ukrainian, not part of Russia proper. Maybe that's a concession?

UA tank shelling Russian position.  Multiple casualties shown afterward, but no way to verify they’re connected events.

UK renews call for Germany to send Taurus

Ukrainian official claims half the NK shells are duds.

Thus far there seems to be no follow up on either the Sergi Kotov or the Kerch bridge.  Reports say the Kotov may have been attacked, but nothing else do far.  If it was, we may not hear from the Ukrainians for another few hours, which is what happened when the Caesar Kunikov was sunk.
There is very little news of any sort on the usual reddit pages today.

Yigal Levin-

Solovyov, who is now in Syria, visited the border with Israel, where the Russian Armed Forces are currently deploying their infrastructure, covering Iranian forces. Among other things, the Russian Armed Forces are collecting intelligence about Israeli troops in the Golan Heights and preparing the SAA - the army of the Assad regime, which Soloviev interviewed. The Syrian dictator said that both Russia and Hamas acted out of “self-defense,” and the invasion of the neighboring state “allowed Russia to avoid encirclement from the south” (!?). Assad believes that Russia and Hamas are similar in this regard, since both oppose the “aggressors” represented by the West.

Romanian pilots who completed a retraining program from the rare MiG-21 LanceR to the more modern F-16 began to share their experience, which was very important for Ukrainians.

According to Defense Romania, the first seven pilots of the Romanian Air Force who previously flew the MiG-21 LanceR aircraft have completed their training on the F-16 fighter jets, as Romania is currently decommissioning all its MiG-21 LanceR aircraft.

In particular, one of the participants of the first “Red” group, who completed the transition program to the F-16 at the 86th EFTC European Training Center at the Borcea base, spoke about the effect and first sensations of flying a highly efficient 4th generation aircraft , which was provided by the Royal Netherlands Air Force. According to him, all the pilots of the “first series” flew with an instructor from Lockheed Martin. Thus, an American company provided instructors, Romania provided infrastructure, and the Netherlands provided aircraft.

The pilot admitted that the transition to a new aircraft was not so difficult from the point of view of mastering avionics (the Romanian MiG-21 LanceR is equipped with advanced Israeli avionics from Elbit Systems), but the difference in the flight characteristics of the aircraft turned out to be much more noticeable.

“Indeed, the F-16 Fighting Falcon is a much more capable and high-tech aircraft, it has more on-board systems. But what really struck us, the biggest difference we all felt, was the power and performance of the F-16,” Red said. Noting that the electronics on the improved MiG-21 LanceRs were already Western-style, albeit with technologies from the 90s.

Romania currently has a full F-16 squadron consisting of 17 aircraft purchased from Portugal and 32 F-16s purchased from Norway, three of which have already arrived in the country.

👀Curious. Singapore's Defense Minister Ng Eng Hen said at a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Government Procurement that American F-35s are actively participating in missions over Ukraine, identifying the location of Russian air defense systems.

“In recent actions, the United States has mobilized its F-35s to identify the deployment of Russian anti-aircraft missile systems in Ukraine. The collected intelligence is subsequently disseminated in NATO countries,” the minister said.

A representative of the US Department of Defense, commenting on this information, said that it was not true: “The United States does not use the F-35 in Ukraine.”

It should be noted that Singapore recently decided to strengthen its defense capabilities by purchasing eight additional F-35A stealth fighters from Lockheed Martin, in addition to the 12 F-35Bs acquired back in 2020. So these statements by the Singaporean official can be read as an attempt to lobby the country’s course towards rearmament.

One way or another, there is no smoke without fire. Let's watch further.

13th! My guy.

At night, crests sank our patrol ship, Sergei Kotov. Hit with BEC.
I don't want to comment on this. Because if this continues, the Black Sea Fleet will only have catamarans and rubber bananas for vacationers. Fucked up.

At night, Ukrainian formations tried to attack targets in Crimea using missiles, UAVs and BECs.

One of the targets was the Crimean Bridge. The bridge is fine, the attack was repulsed.

However, everything is not so good with the goals of the BECs. As Comrade Rybar correctly wrote, after failures at the front, Ukraine carries great reputational risks and, as a rule, after each fiasco at the front they learn something. Everyone knew, all that was left was to wait.

And so it happened: the Project 22160 patrol ship “Sergei Kotov” was attacked by BECs. I'm still checking on the crew judge, but the ship is (complete/still)*.

The bridge would have been nice, but I am very happy that the Russians lost another ship. Their Black Sea Fleet is starting to get a bit thin. They may have to start dragging out some bass boats pretty soon for their navy at this rate!

Ukrainian news says yes.
Good video at link, screenshot below.

Went down: the Main Intelligence Directorate confirmed the destruction of the ship "Sergey Kotov" by a strike on the Crimea

Ukrainian defenders destroyed the patrol ship "Sergey Kotov" of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation in the temporarily occupied Crimea. Naval drones worked on the enemy vessel, it is impossible to restore it.

The operation to defeat the Russian fleet on the night of March 5 was carried out by reconnaissance officers. Information about this OBOZ. UA was confirmed by sources in the Main Intelligence Directorate.

The explosion was so strong that the ship was destroyed and there can be no talk of restoration," the interlocutors said.

According to them, the fate of the crew of this Russian ship of project 22160 of the Vasily Bykov class is being clarified.

It is noteworthy that the ship has already been under attack several times and each time the occupiers repaired it. This time, however, "Sergey Kotov" finally went to the bottom.

The invaders themselves shared a video of the moment the ship was hit. Before that, the Russian military tried to destroy the target moving to the ship, but to no avail.

Recall that on March 5, the occupiers in Crimea complained about a "massive Ukrainian attack", during which UAVs tried to hit ground targets, and naval drones - ships of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation, and the Crimean bridge was also under the threat of being hit. The "military correspondents" pointed to loud noises in the area of Feodosia, where the "Sergei Kotov" was stationed, and then confirmed its destruction.

As reported by OBOZ. UA, on the morning of February 14, fighters of the Main Intelligence Directorate and the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked the large landing ship "Caesar Kunikov" of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation. As a result of naval drone strikes, the ship received holes and sank near Alupka on the southern coast of the temporarily occupied Crimea.

Great video, but holy shit talk about hairy for bystanders!
I bet we can expect Ukrainian video about 3AM central.
The ship was underway.  The heavy-caliber gun firing, maybe a 14.5, wasn’t even close to on target.  Those rounds were coming down a KM or two away.  You’d think by this time an important surface combatant could scrape up a bunch of PKMs and just line the rails with them.  No searchlights, probably no NV or thermal on the HMG.
The fact they are STILL TOTALLY UNPREPARED to defend their ships against a very, very well known threat demonstrates pretty conclusively that the BSF lacks the competent staff and organizational ability to do better.  They will keep losing ships until they don’t have any left, or they never leave Novorossisk.  Fucking hell, regardless of staff or organizational problems at the upper levels - if I was captain of one of those ships I’d send out a chief who knew what he was doing plus a couple of seamen to bring back any and all armament that wasn’t nailed down.
I think the sea drones continue to have fusing issues.  The drone hit, there was some kind of squib blast, then the main charge.  That isn’t a 1900 pound warhead either.  500 looks like a good estimate to me.

I believe that, but I’m talking about the macro strategy of threatening war/escalation as widely as possibly to promote a climate of fear and self-deterrence.  Putin has done that successfully so far and thinks it will continue, because we’ve allowed it to work.  He’s going to be wrong in the short to medium term and the Israelis are a damn good bet for where.  They’re going to get even.

Those were made to get hit by drones, not a problem.

Good hit. The fact they snuck it into an occupied port with people and cameras is amazing.

The ship obviously knew something was up based upon the outgoing tracers. Wasn't good enough.

This stuff's cheesy, but in this case it's probably a direct response to the latest Russian propaganda, below.

The comfort of trench life is a piece of caremat to rest between shifts. However, even in such conditions, our soldiers take care of local animals, which continue to live among the ruins of a nearby settlement destroyed by the Russians.

I corrected my post, it’s actually passing just under the red rope at 0:10, and is visible in the explosion’s light until 0:12-0:13.  I tried to pick it up in the other reflected light to the right of where it’s eventually seen, but the cameraman moved around too much and missed when it passed this reflection.

One more Kalibr carrier down.

ETA- Good beat, high five.

⚡️Russian warship "Sergey Kotov" sinks to the bottom of the Black Sea after a successful Ukrainian attack!

On the night of March 4-5, 2024, the special unit of the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine "Group 13" attacked the patrol ship of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation "Sergey Kotov".

The mission took place in cooperation with the Naval Forces of the AFU and with support of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine.

As a result of the strike by Magura V5 naval drones, the Russian ship of project 22160 "Sergei Kotov" suffered damage to the stern, right and left sides.

The ship was damaged by fire in the territorial waters of Ukraine, near the Kerch Strait.

The cost of the sunken ship is about 65 million dollars.

Looks like 5 hits, with very little if any defensive fire in the released video.  Since we have the 3rd person view we know there was some outgoing fire, so that might indicate that the 3rd person camera attack was the first, and after that hit the crew possibly abandoned their guns.
Waiting for the Russian sources to say “and everyone was saved” again.
The 22160s are about the equivalent of a small WWII destroyer, tonnage-wise, so they’re not going to shrug off 5x500-pound waterline explosions.
Still think those drones have fuse problems and some of the operators just aren’t leading the ship’s course like they need to.

Today, Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe and the sixth in the world, has been occupied for exactly 2 years. Of the 11,000 workers, the majority did not sign a contract with the occupiers and left for the rear alone or with whole families. Many came to Yuzhnoukrainsk.

https://t.me/energoatom_ua/16924

❗️❗️❗️ The situation at the nuclear power plant seized by the occupiers threatens with very bad consequences

This was emphasized by the head of Energoatom, Petro Kotin, during a conversation with journalists. According to him, the level of danger increases every day due to the presence of occupiers at the ZNPP.

💬 "On an imaginary ten-point scale of danger, I would rate the threat at the ZNPP at level 7-8. However, the situation remains uncertain, because many seemingly insignificant events constantly occur at the station, each of which may not lead to an accident individually, but their accumulation threatens with negative consequences. Due to the cumulative effect of the degradation of isolated elements, the entire system may fail, with very serious consequences. This has already happened at the Chernobyl NPP and the Fukushima NPP," explained the head of Energoatom.

He added that the actions of the Russian occupiers have already caused significant equipment degradation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP. The main existing risks are the non-conduct of the necessary repairs by the authorities, the almost complete lack of qualified personnel for this and for the normal operation of the NPP; the station lacks external power supply; there is no cooling water due to the destruction of the Kakhov reservoir; the duration of nuclear fuel in reactors permitted by the manufacturer expires.
The main calculated indicators of safety criteria are higher than the norm.

Sounder teams of the Russian military and heavy equipment and weapons are constantly stationed at the station. The perimeter of the station is mined, the detonation of ammunition and explosives, which the Rashists store at the station, threatens a catastrophe. The only way to prevent a catastrophe is to demilitarize and de-occupy the ZNPP, to restore Ukraine's full control there to ensure nuclear and radiation safety.

Truth.

It can be stated that BECs have shown their highest efficiency, and accept that at the moment large ships cannot effectively resist BECs.

Speed, night, stealth and the number of BECs participating in the attack solve issues with thermal imagers and additional fire weapons on board and in general with everything.

I don’t know what conclusions can be drawn other than the fact that now it is necessary to accept this fact, move all large ships beyond the effective range of BECs, close mooring areas with engineering means to prevent BECs from damaging ships at the berths, transfer the tasks of the Black Sea Fleet to small and high-speed boats and boats type "Raptor", submarines and aircraft.
Well, it’s natural to speed up cutting your BECs.
Along the way, around the clock testing somewhere in Vladivostok various options for defensive weapons, detection, guidance and electronic warfare equipment on existing Navy ships, endlessly simulating BEC attacks in practice.

I repeat, repeat. Today we need to simulate not attacks by submarines of a hypothetical enemy, but attacks by high-speed, small-sized targets with television guidance.

Well, for the best, all this should be done, as usual, yesterday.

The Ukrainians also don’t generally put the attacks in chronological order in their video releases.  I think the chronologically first attacks are always the “up the stern” attacks.
They say this is to help immobilize the ship (through prop damage and/or popping the shaft seals) to make later hits easier.
I’m skeptical of this and tend to think they attack in a set order, and the first wave operators just aren’t leading ship’s course enough, so they invariably get pulled into a “pursuit curve” attack that finishes going right up the wake.
Yes, that might cripple the ship, at which point the remaining operators have an easier time leading the ship and hitting broadside.  But I tend to think that overall it’s a sub-optimal outcome.
The 3rd person view also (IMO) confirms they have fuse/detonation issues and that a better warhead/fuse design could make the system more effective.

Buy whatever you can afford.

The industry in Europe is buying everything they can. They even started to buy vehicles and spare parts from private collectors and private museums all over Europe.
