Back in the day, some of the managers within the industry considered that the open-hearth smelting process had become inefficient, and all open-hearth furnaces were extinguished in the country. However, only those furnaces could produce high-quality steel, including the one used to produce artillery. PS: Ukraine has started hitting Russian metallurgical plants recently -- three so far in the last two weeks (Cherepovka, Lipetsk and Kursk). PPS: I'm sorry I can't be too exact or specific with this; as there's not a lot of detailed information available on the internet. If you have enough money ($15,000 or so), you can actually order detailed writeups of the exact make up of the metals industry in Russia from industrial forecasting services. Russia has lost at least 341 BMP-3s in the war so far (Vsiualy Confirmed) The BMP-3 is Russia's best BMP (infantry Fighting Vehicle) and it's still in production. Probably at a rate of 140 a year, though that might have increased closer to 200 a year. In November 2022 Russia started using, and losing, a new type of BMP-3 with the catchy name 'SB3KDZ' Losses as a % of all BMP-3s have increased and are now a bit over 1/3 of all BMP-3 losses. The new BMP-3 SB3DZ won't change the cause of the war, but its loss profile can be used to help estimate the total number of BMP-3s, I estimate there are 300-400 Total BMP-3s in operation, which will include some that are undergoing maintenance or repair. 1/3
Putting the BMP-3 into perspective, of the 2,218 total BMP losses only 341 have been BMP-3s, a Blue section at the top. In the last few months has been about 16% of the total, so 3-400 BMP-3s would imply 2,000 total BMPs Pluse or minus 500. if they were being lost at equal proportions which might not be a trough, but this gives us some idea. And again at any point in time, some Propotion of these will be undergoing maintenance or repair. 2/3

I do not understand the 'rah-rah' Uke propaganda. It does not serve anyone's interests to create an artificial picture of the situation. Maybe somebody thinks that this is a thing that will give more hope to defenders. But false hope is worse than grim determination, IMO. I think there are other ways to keep people from despair besides creating false expectations of imminent success that are only to be dashed by later experience. Eventually, those false hopes are going to create resentment and bitterness, which will be worse. Zaluzhny did not sugarcoat, but still managed to provide serious avenues for hope and show a path for success. The information sphere should follow that example, and not go in for false pictures. Unless that's actually Russian info ops to sucker-punch the Ukrainians, which is also possible. 'Oohh, we're almost beaten. Nope! Here's another 500 guns, haha, cyka!' |

That’s exactly the sort of thing I’ve been looking for. But it would be handy to see the total loss numbers of BMPs as a whole, plus the same breakdown of BTR losses by type and BTR losses as a whole. |

Again, Russian forces are using the Iksandr ballistic missiles to take out Ukrainian high value targets.
Might be some Patriot equipment.
 
Again, if there is an Iksandr ballistic missile warning, hop into the cab of your high value vehicles and drive until the impact. These sites need serious anti drone and layered air defenses to cover the Patriot battery.
