I hope between the CRT classes someone at the Pentagon is thinking: 'How would we secure 5,000 Russian nuclear devices in short order if there were a massive power vacuum there in 12 hours'? Because if those go walking, that's an extraordinary problem.

Seriously.  I cannot criticize the guy right now. He surely isn't perfect, but we haven't seen this kind of leadership in a long time. Yes, there is certainly PR behind most of what he does, but NOT fleeing is a choice very few if any other politicians would make. He risked what had to be considered a near certain death. Hell, at this point it is still absolutely on the table. If Russia figures out his location a missile is going to be inbound immediately.  I think a few of the missiles hitting civilians were exactly that - Russia thought they knew where he or some of the other leaders were and hit a civilian area anyways.

I believe you can. Poland or any other NATO country can act independently with the understanding that Article 5 doesn’t apply.  They absolutely have the right to defend their interests whether nato cares to join or not.

I had dinner with a local tonight to help build up his moral and give some needed support/advice.  He's former military who's family I just drove over 3,000 km to get to safety in order for him to focus on the job at stake to help his countrymen fight.  He's afraid of a massive push from Belarus which would knock Lviv out of the fight and doom UA to defeat by losing such a strategic point.  He also agrees and has told others that AMERICANS and others should not be fighting this war.  This is Ukraine's to fight and they can/will win this if they can be properly supplied.  I have complete confidence that Ukraine will be victorious and hope that they take the initiative to kick Russia out of the ENTIRE country.

Honestly, I think the best and most realistic outcome would be Ukrainians digging in their heels and showing the world/Russians that they will not surrender to this evil, forcing Russians to stand up to their dictator.  Putin knows EVERYTHING is at stake here, namely his life, so he's not going to give up unless there will be total victory.

I am willing to be my life on this that he is mistaken.  There are many more like me that can see the silver lining.

Ukraine needs your support and encouragement.  This victory will be a massive shift here and Ukrainians will finally be respected and take responsibility for themselves.

I'm a realist and find myself seeing a dire situation in front of me but I have complete confidence that Putin will be destroyed.  These are amazing times to be alive and very scary if you live here.

not only that, the health concerns are big. being in the field for days without a bath can and will cause havoc with that open wound.

There's a lot that doesn't make sense. Unrestricted UKR air ops? They've been shoveling propaganda imagery onto social media all week; thus far there is zero evidence for these claims.

Weirdly, the Russia Air Force hasn't exactly been prominent either. What are they waiting for. So many cameras in theater, and so, so much we're not seeing.

I've stopped looking at Twitter for updates. Signal/Noise is completely fucked.

If a nato country attacks russia we are not obligated.

Truth is that USA is not obligated for much of anything if Russia attacks a NATO country.  Reason is the charter doesn't spell out what kind of response.

EU = NATO = US is a way over simplification of the NATO issue.  The main issue is NATO is dominated by EU countries.  All but two of the seats on the council are in Europe.  General secretaries tend to be mostly EU politicians.  Thus, NATO is largely controlled by EU countries that mostly don't meet their NATO obligation.

Face it, NATO military strength is largely the USA.  NATO decision making is largely the weaker EU countries who depend on Russian oil and gas.

In 1991 there was a huge amount of teeth gnashing over this as Gorbachev was on his way out.
I was alarmed enough about it that I drove to Colorado Springs, nabbed my mom. Mom was rolling her eyes but willing to humor her hypervigilant son...
I took her out to my grandfather's farm in BFE New Mexico and we hung out for about a week.

Things are in a much better situation now than then.
There's fewer of them and they are controlled by fewer people.
... Then again, I don't have family living on the world largest target anymore so there's that...

Even if it's shithead media, cameras and reporters on the ground are important. CNN did well in Afghanistan and their UKR coverage has been really good. A good reporter with local knowledge and the pull to get the access is vital.

No.  That theory just doesnt hold any water anymore, not with all the thousands upon thousands of ATGM's shipped to Ukraine since the war broke out.  And Z can get 10k more with a single phone call.

War of attrition would work against Poland if they go it alone with the Rooskies.  They have guts though.  One of the few in NATO that do.

France, Germany, and Netherlands would never agree to mobilize NATO forces unless their own soil is attacked.  They would sell out the minor NATO countries will no real defense if Putin agrees to leave their countries alone, and the gas pipeline running.

All this talk about rethinking their NATO commitments, their energy plans, and whatnots will be forgotten in short time.  Certainly by the next recession.  They'll go back to business as usual. Face it, NATO has been in decline for decades, has been largely obsolete due to incompetence in EU, and is on its death bed.

If NATO was a half-serious military alliance, it would have listed conditions to Putin of what will result in a response in Ukraine.  They did nothing other than sit on their hands, and talked tough words with no stick.
