People thought the Love deal was questionable. At least Love has a chance to play into his deal. We already know what Dak's ceiling is

Honestly, at this point I didn't think a deal was getting done. I am glad Dak is going to remain, a little pissed Jerry overpaid, again. Had he signed him last year, I bet it would have been no more than 50 a year. Thats depth. Thats being able to be more competitive than another team for either a free agent, or maybe being able to keep another player happy.

IMO there isn't a ton of difference between a good team and an elite, SB contender. Maybe it will be a matter of having an extra $10 million in cap space?

I was thinking Jerry would be able to keep 2 out of 3. Now we know. Supposedly Parsons wants to be the highest paid non QB, we will see. They have the 5th year option, and realistically can franchise him at least once, so they can keep him a couple more years.

You know it’s a fun news day when Justin Fields gets named the starter for Pittsburgh and nobody here notices.

Caribou is about to have himself a day.

Parsons agent is David Mulugheta (sp?) and he has been on a tear fleecing GMs. I don't think the Parsons deal is going to be easy for them.

Anything is possible? We have some smart cap guys in the thread who will chime in. Everyone is still digesting the morning it seems

In that vein, this is not good.

The Love contract is questionable.

Dak was a very good-great QB for the better half of a decade.

Love was a borderline top 10 QB for his one and only season as a full time starter.

As a Cowboy fan, I always asked people who slammed Dak, "Yeah, but who are we going to replace him with?"  Maybe we're missing out on another Brock Purdy somewhere, but he was always good enough to keep us from a top-5 draft pick.  Sure Mahomes, Burroughs, Allen and one or two others may be better, but their teams aren't going to trade them to us.

I am happy they resigned Dak, but had they handled it a little differently, earlier, could have probably saved some cap space. The market price of top 5 players seems to be increasing faster than the salary cap increases. Signing earlier is always better. But no, that's not how Jerry runs his team.

Sure.

I don’t think Love threatened to hold out. GB can and should have let him play another season to prove himself more, even if this increased his price tag a bit. That cost would be worth knowing he’s real.

But I think this deal could be worse.

This is true until it isn’t.

Giving Dak $60M APY, $5M more than the next closest guy, when he’s in his 30s and never escaped the divisional round is pretty crazy.

At some point, he’s not worth it anymore, and Jerry drove by that point with the cruise control set and the radio up.

I’ve been saying that to Cowboys fans for about 15 years.  First Romo and now Dak.

I’ve yet to get a reasonable answer.

I guess you'll have to be content with "making the playoffs is good enough" for the next few years.

That's how it's been since Jimmy left, except the first 2 years under that dickhead Switzer coaching the team Jimmy built.

You could have put Tom Brady on the Cowboys and I bet he wouldn't have done any better.
