One of the few that I've missed.
The 90th landing of a booster and the first one for the new drone ship.
As cool as it ever was.

I wish they would have a drone with a good camera a safe distance away from the droneships to capture the landing. They seem to really struggle capturing those when they land at sea. Compare that to the epic shot of the two Falcon Heavy boosters landing side by side.

Still waiting on Zero G flight test data from any Starship, let alone returning from an altitude higher than a 737 can fly and safely landing.
Then there is MaxQ, how many TPS tiles are they going to lose if it ever gets to that point ?
And now Elon want's to scrap the idea of a re-useable booster/2nd stage because he has 'get there itis' for half an orbit ?
None of those plans are remotely close to his initial claims, scrapping things like landing gear and reusability have gone out the window.

The point is, he's got to get that stuff off the ground and return it safely before he starts hauling the mail.

And he is overdue and once again under delivering.
Don't see any of his pipe dreams happening this year, maybe not even next year.
He's too far behind.

where did reusability go out the window? cause they are choosing not to try it for a test flight?
they showed it can land at terminal velocity, why risk a breakup over a populated area?
don't need legs with a giant fucking robot crane to catch it. Get there itis is being able to launch 100 tons in to leo. landing is not as important.

Far behind whom?

Once again your prejudice is rearing its ugly head. Where the hell did you get the idea Elon's scrapping the idea of Starship reusability? That's the whole point of the project.

So again I ask. Elon is far behind whom?

Landing isn't important ?

That's his whole "I'm better than everybody else because reusability" schitck.
So far his whole Starship program has not demonstrated anything close to that.
But he keeps telling everybody that, but what's the point ?

The guy would be in a much better light if he told everybody the truth.

I love his F9 success, but so far his Starship endeavors have fallen short of his promises.

Question bears repeating.

Its not something I've heard anywhere.   And it would certainly make all the trouble they're going to for the catch system on the launch tower kinda pointless...

you can't just leave out words.

Landing is not as important.
The milestone of being able to achieve low earth orbit is exponentially more important than landing and reuse.

Even if it is fully expendable it is still less expensive and more capable than anything else out there. Just being able to launch 400 satellites for close to or less than 60 for their own starlink project is well worth it. Landing just makes everything cheaper.

His timelines tend to be off by a good bit but so are everyone elses. While elon time means maybe it takes a few extra months nasa time means 20 years later we probably just scrap the whole damn project.

So far the prototypes have done what they were intended to do with some exceptions that provide ample data to improve from which is sort of the point of rapid prototyping...

Oooookay....

I posted that because Bezos is being a troll with all of the crap with HLS and Starlink, and thought it'd be funny if SpaceX would troll him back on a flight of a proven crewed orbital launched on a proven launch system.  I really have no idea what is going on with Starship anymore.  I quit following the Starship thread because of all the purse swinging and poo throwing that goes on in it. Please, all of you...

DON'T SHIT THIS THREAD UP TOO!

Thank you.

Best thing to do is just take Musk's predictions as "notional."  He is doing great with Falcon 9, Crew Dragon, Cargo Dragon. Starship/Super Heavy booster will take time.  There will be lots of failures.   Probably lots of deaths.    Mainly because he seems to like suicide maneuvers just prior to landing with no real-time backup.
