When is the last time they failed to recover?  It's been a while.  Glow and then it was gone.  She's dead Jim!

Also noticed they lost telemetry.  Is that typical?

As I noted above, the re-entry burn did not seem to end properly.  There was still what "may" have been flame to the right.  I think that they just ended showing the booster video when they realized it was not normal.  Maybe someone saw an explosion or the landing burn did not work.   We should know soon enough.  Musk is usually open about these failures.

I noticed in the last telemetry, it did not apear to be slowing up at all during the burn. Maybe they ditched it on purpose to save damage to the drone ship.

by default, the trajectory will miss the drone ship.  it is only when it is under proper control that they alter course to land on the ship.

this shows landing back on land, but the droneship landings are the same.  the ballistic trajectory is set to hit the water, its only after they get the landing burn going that they redirect it to the actual landing location.

Telemetry was the same as last few launches.  Entry burn around 8500 km/h.... Shutoff at around 5900km/h

Could have been damage during re-entry. Did they mention that the droneship distance was further than usual? That can lead to spicer re-entry conditions.

Still... 6 successful orbital booster launches is 5 more than everyone else in the world.

Wow.  Considering how cutting-edge this technology still is, 11 months without a failure is amazing.

Also, looks like they lost video signal AND telemetry updates at the same time.  The moment the video cut is the same moment the stage 1 telemetry stopped updating.

The launch for tonight has been delayed.  I have not seen a reason but it would be prudent to determine the cause to see if a change is needed for the next mission booster.

One failure every year for something as challenging as recovering a booster on a tiny barge is not bad.   Two in a row could be more damaging to their reputation even though the primary mission was a success.

I did see the Starlink satellites from this launch this morning.  They were in a line no longer than the apparent diameter of the moon...maybe less.

Apparently they sorta need these boosters to carry out this year’s schedule.   Splash another and they might have to start canceling missions.

NASASpaceflight mentioned they only have 5.

If you look at the launch video check around T+6:52 for the possible flame to the right of the bottom of the first stage.

Mission was still a success when considering other companies ditch the booster anyway.

Space X still has more launches than anyone.

I think they mostly use GPS tracking and wizardry mathematics.

Not often do they capture both fairing halves , as you can see one of them still in the net but that was docking when I pulled up.
Could have already dropped the net on the front boat to unload.
They don't sit around the dock long waiting to get unloaded either , I was lucky to catch them when I did.

Half a dozen Tesla's crowded my parking spot to boot , snooty bunch they were.
Thumbed their noses at me like they owned the place , until I got up on the fence to grab a couple of pics.
They just stared at each other with the "I don't believe that guy just did that" look on their faces.

Fucking campers.

I think they scooped both out of the drink, vs catching them.

Thanks for that.
No wonder there was no news story of them landing in the nets on the ships.

Makes sense now.
