Inside of the Glorious pre Dreadnought Mikasa, you know the victor the battle of tsushima, the last pre Dreadnought battleship in existence, this lady. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3VbhTAn2Qs There is apparently two rooms in her that are filled with fan art and posters from Azur Lane https://i.redd.it/e71ilyu48jy21.jpg How typically Japanese to embrace some sort of anime mascot, She is best ship waifu. At one point I had over a 65% win ratio with the Mikasa in World of Warships player-vs-player, for about nine months I was considered the best Mikasa player on the North American server, the only real notable video game achievement I've ever had, but I stop playing World of Warships because of other bullshit that is just inherent to the game But she is now on the English server of Azur Lane, i will have to get the PC conversion for it since it is a mobile game https://azurlane.koumakan.jp/w/images/thumb/c/cf/Mikasa.png/686px-Mikasa.png View Quote |

We and the Japanese refer to ships as “she”, due to convention and tradition. I believe much of the western world as well. And the Russians (who I understand call ships “he”) aren’t a huge influence in Anime. Probably more what you’re seeing. Though there must be something out there somewhere, the Internet being what it is. View Quote |

Ah the old Mikasa in Yokosuka.
I had many dates there where I gave young Japanese women a taste of America. |

She’s moored next to the US Navy base at Yokosuka at a small park. I’ve toured her at least 3 times. Still mighty impressive and immaculately preserved. Nary a special of rust on her, very well taken care of. Museum ships are tremendously expensive to maintain so I can’t blame the museum for doing anime events to attractive new younger audiences. The Sino-Japanese war really isn’t a relevant event to modern people.

Mikasa was British-built, a modification of one of the Royal Navy's battleship designs. The IJN was heavily modeled on the RN in most things and they were extremely tight until the Brits (and US and France) screwed Japan at the post-WWI Washington Naval Conference. That's interesting. A very different cultural embrace of an old warship than the western way. The anime art has the ship transfigured as a female in Navy (skimpy) uniform? Seems a little strange. Thanks for sharing. It just stands out oddly compared to the reverence shown USS Constitution, USS Missouri, or HMS Victory. Makes our way of looking back at things seem kind of stuffy. Never knew of that ship at all, and to be encased in concrete since 1926 is amazing. I am still surprised it didn't get bombed during WW2, even with an order not to, by a stray bomb. We bombed the fuck out of Yokosuka. Also, if we had went through with the invasion the 45 caliber main guns could still have been used as a static defense, similar to bunkers.

The fact that it is encased in concrete has saved them who knows how many dollars over the years, trying to keep a ship maintain while it is still in salt water is the really expensive part. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

You should see the War Memorial of Korea in Seoul. Somber, stark, and sobering...until you reach the section about the modern Korean military, with chibi anime characters for all the branches.
