Trump has been the great divider of the Republican and conservative movements in the US. He destroyed it far more than any commie Democrat could have hoped for. Why is it that I'm an engineer working alone in my machine shop who thinks about political issues only part time and I can articulate a better conservative path on COVID?  The path I would have chosen:

-  Said plainly and regularly:  "The following is what we currently know about COVID: [insert all known info at the time here]"
-  Then said plainly:  "Now that the people have the information available to them, they can decide how they'd like to proceed.  I ask everyone to be respectful of any decisions individuals make as they decide what is best to protect themselves and their family."
-  Then say:  "I have conferred with the DoJ and any petty tyrant governor or mayor or bureaucrat who tries to infringe on basic civil liberties of Americans during this period will be harshly punished for civil rights violations."

Done.  That's literally the entire response for me.
