South Florida's annual "MLK Ride Out" aka "Bikes Up, Guns Down" had a very different flavor this year. Local law enforcement strategies (and unusually chilly weather) seem to have finally discouraged the usual mass motorized mayhem on our public roads, and instead of ATVs and dirt bikes, we got bicycles. Lots of bicycles. And lots of arrests:
"So far, one ATV has been impounded, as well as five motor and dirt bikes. There have been 51 felony arrests, nine misdemeanor arrests, one traffic arrest, 10 guns recovered, two stolen vehicles recovered, and 372 grams of cocaine that have been impounded." It was a prison farm at some point in the past, and the city decided to use the property to build a new police training facility. BLM types and fringe environmental groups are claiming it is urban forest that rightfully belongs to the people of the city. They have occupied it and done typical BLM stuff in protest (vandalism, arson, threats, etc). |
