Have you explored Lucid dreaming?  If not, I think it would be something you would be interested in.  Search it and read about, "Lucid Dreaming". Pretty fun and you can train yourself to do it over a period of time.

I call it vivid dreaming.  I guess.

I've had vivid dreams all of my life.  Not sure how a pill would help, or hinder.

Me too, except after working on it I can remember every detail of a dream for years and literally feel my dreams physically. Like if I dream I'm hiking or hunting in the woods, I can actually feel leaves crunching under my feet. If I dream I'm eating I may wake up with the taste of that food in my mouth, etc.  Disclaimer:  I do not use any drugs or substances to achieve this, but it is a remarkable feeling.  Weird, but awesome.

No doubt. I wrote mine down for awhile which expanded dreaming and waking life synchronicity. Robert Moss has a couple of decent books, and Carl Jung as well. Moss holds workshops, helps with dream re-entry... Flotation/deprivation tanks are great for journeying too, surreal. No drugs for any of it personally. My imagination far exceeds all reality to date.

When i used chantix to kick my heater habit a dozen years ago the dreams were nutz. Tho trazadone has kicked off some whoppers now and then. .. Ambien was not compatable. Spent too much money. But surprise packages were fun.

The psychological effect is far more powerful than most realize. Humans aren't designed to not see each others' faces...but I suspect you know this well.

Obligatory "it was never about safety" one liner.

EDIT:

When I was little, I remember being unnerved by hospital staff wearing surgical masks and such. Eventually I got over things like that but, to this day, something subtle about crowds of people, all with their faces covered, unnerves me. Something about it is just intrinsically off. It fills me with agitation and makes it easy to broadly dismiss others as masses of idiots.

So it is true, at least for me. Masks dehumanize. Ever wondered why some Muslims force their women to wear veils? Easier to control, dominate, and abuse a black sack than something that looks like a person.

Very true, I work with a bunch of good people for whom English is their second or third Language. Reading lips helped me understand them a great deal. Now I'm left wondering what the hell they said and ask them to repeat a bunch.... Sucks.

Not to mention the uneasy feeling I still get when a doctors office or some other place holds a temp scan "gun" to your forehead

I suggest the following...

NEW - United States to cane social media company CEO's that censor lawful speech. A new bill will prohibit Big Tech companies to remove content or block accounts if the content does not break United States law.

You would think somewhere, one of our glorious mask-touting leaders would state that it is unnecessary to wear a mask while sitting alone in your car, or walking in some deserted corner of the neighborhood at dusk. Not a one...and this is to say nothing of the fresh new dumpster fire about having to still mask up and socially distance once you've had your sterilization vaccine.

Mandated here and stores will not ring you up (they claim) if you do not have a face covering. I wear one, putting it on right at the door, and removing it as I walk out the door. I get looks from the Karen's of the world but so far my look of death has kept anyone from opening their pie hole about it.

I have no interest in getting into a beef with someone who is patrolling their AO looking for non-mask wearing people. To your point, if someone is going to start waving blunt instruments around, that is a mistake that they are not likely to survive.
