Supreme Court won't hear 2020 election case that questioned some Pennsylvania ballots
WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court declined Monday to hear a dispute over whether absentee ballots received up to three days after Election Day in Pennsylvania should have been counted in the 2020 presidential election. Supreme Court rejects GOP attack on Biden victory In a decision that split the court and prompted dissents from three conservative justices, the high court shut down a challenge from Pennsylvania Republicans who sought to block a state court ruling that allowed the deadline extension. But even the dissenting justices acknowledged the legal questions in the case would not have affected the outcome of the November election. Republicans argued the extension was improper because it was not approved by the state legislature and they have raised questions about the impact on future elections. "That decision to rewrite the rules seems to have affected too few ballots to change the outcome of any federal election," Associate Justice Clarence Thomas wrote in a dissent. "But that may not be the case in the future." Associate Justices Samuel Alito and Neil Gorsuch also would have heard the cases, one shy of the four votes needed for Supreme Court to accept an appeal. If work changed so that I was back to frequently working on King Airs or some other turbine aircraft (and not focused on structural work), and I decided that I needed to buy a set, I'd probably be looking fairly seriously at Knipex (and I realize it would be a bit of 'buy once, cry once'). As things stand now, I deal with them so infrequently that I can continue to just use a normal pair of channellocks and do what I can to not chew them up (on really tight plugs, I have wrapped them with a strip rubber and then used the channellocks). |

Gotta wonder about the intelligence of someone that makes a habit of pissing off each and every person that works on their plane. And if the guy's attitude had changed, it wasn't by much. He is lucky his attitude did not cause a later rapid loss of altitude. It very well could, and without involving any malice from the people that work on his plane. Aircraft are required to go through periodic inspections, to find problems before they become a major issue. Any issues are written up and presented to the owner with a quote on the parts and labor to fix them, for customer approval to do the work. Many (most?) shops will break it down into two lists, airworthy and recommended. Airworthy items are required to be fixed, or the plane is not getting a signoff to continue flying - though a ferry permit can usually be obtained to take the plane somewhere else to be fixed, if there is a problem with having it fixed where it is, so it's not an issue of extorting the customer to approve the work to get their plane back. Recommended items are things that are, at that point in time, a minor issue that does not have an impact on the safety of the plane, but as the wear increases it will cause other things to wear and eventually become an airworthy issue - a hypothetical example would be saying a worn part is causing some play in a linkage and it's not yet to the point of being a serious problem, but if we fix it now, it'll cost $100, while ignoring it for two years could result in an airworthy writeup and a $3000 bill for replacing the additional worn components in the linkage. A customer that habitually threatens a lawsuit, every time the list of items and their estimated cost to fix them is given to him, is eventually not going to see any recommended items included on the list, because management knows he isn't going to approve any of them and it's just a waste of time to look up pricing and availability on the parts for any recommended items. They can even go a step further (I've seen it myself) and tell the people inspecting the plane to not bother writing anything up that is not clearly an airworthiness issue. That can easily result in the guys out on the shop floor missing something, because management is pressuring them to not waste any time looking too closely at this particular plane. As I said earlier, it's idiotic for the customer to have that sort of attitude toward every single person that works on his plane. Even if there is no malice directed back at him, it will result in at least some people recalibrating their give a fuck meter. But the more likely end result of owners like that, is they eventually end up with a plane that has a list of airworthy items that they cannot afford to pay for (put too many things off for too long, and it snowballs). Then they may look for some unsuspecting buyer to sell their dumpster fire of a plane to, and the new owner (who didn't bother to get a proper pre-buy inspection done to identify any problems and negotiate the price down) gets their joy of new (to them) plane ownership ruined by having to re-evaluate their finances and determine whether or not they can afford to keep the plane (that they just bought) in flyable condition (I've seen that, way too many times). |
