https://jonathanturley.org/2022/06/05/new-york-attorneys-accused-of-firebombing-police-car-given-generous-plea-deal/

We previously discussed the cases of attorneys Colinford Mattis and Urooj Rahman, who were accused of throwing a Molotov cocktail into a police vehicle in New York. They were facing domestic terrorism charges and the possibility of 30 years in jail. This week, the Biden Administration agreed to a massive reduction of the charges in a plea agreement that will likely result only in a couple years of jail time. What is particularly bizarre is that the plea agreement reduces an earlier plea agreement for a more serious offense.

The plea deal by the Justice Department is a breathtaking reduction in the charges and expected sentencing of the two lawyers.

Earlier, some of us were surprised that U.S. District Judge Margo Brodie upheld the $250,000 bail determination of U.S. Magistrate Judge Steven Gold.  Prosecutors presented evidence that the two attorneys were trying to distribute Molotov cocktails and suggested that Mattis did not appear rational.  The United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit reversed Judge Brodie and the two attorneys were sent back to jail. (Rahman’s bail was paid for by friend and fellow attorney Salmah Rizvi, who served in the Defense Department and State Department during the Obama administration).

Notably, Rahman and Mattis pleaded guilty last year to one count of possessing and making an explosive device, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. Now, however, they will be allowed to withdraw the earlier plea and instead plead guilty to conspiring to assemble the Molotov cocktail and damage the New York Police Department patrol car. That is a nosebleed of a drop in the severity and punishment for this violent attack.

The lawyer that handled the Sandmann defamation suit (private school student that had an activist banging a drum in his face) has apparently joined the effort and claims that Rittenhouse has 10 to 15 solid cases.

I wish him well on this. It's time that the media and some celebrities are reeled in a bit.  However, if this goes too far, what will it do to the major social media platforms?

I gave up on Rittenhouse when he had his AR15 destroyed. Virtue-signaling at it's finest. Clearly he is not the hero many think he is, much like Zimmerman.

That settles that.

He posted today he was going to Blinn but the post has been taken down.

A 17-year-old repeat offender pleaded guilty to two felony charges of assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury and one felony count of hit-and-run.  However, in a stunning sentence, Los Angeles DA George Gascon make the unilateral decision to send the guy to 5 to 7 months in a diversionary probation camp.

Odd bit of news from Nashville.  Drive by practice?  At the end, the report mentions the recent frequency of it happening, but also says police are not seeing an increase.

https://www.wsmv.com/2022/06/07/couple-shot-with-bb-gun-outside-theater/

That theater is part of a complex that was built after a failed upscale mall was demolished.  They went with the newer concept of building a community within a complex - possible to live and work in the complex with rarely any need to travel farther than walking distance.  I went to see what shops were in it, when it looked like they were about done building it, noticed that some effort had been put into creating a few spaces for people to 'relax and hang out' (which was part of what had been contributing to killing the malls), and didn't really see much point in going again.

With everything that is going on, I don't see how things can do anything other than get worse between now and the midterm elections.

Last night I stumbled onto a video (couldn't find anything indicating how old it was) of Hawaii's senator Hirono questioning some college professor at a hearing.  The professor stated that we were in an awkward position where he didn't see how things could get better if some gun control wasn't enacted, but he also could clearly see that the public push for gun control, especially by some more vocal politicians and members of the media, was agitating the more extremist segment of gun owners, validating their fears that the government was coming for their guns.  He argued that making all this noise about imposing strict gun control, that they were unlikely to get passed, would only make things worse than if they didn't try to pass any gun control at all.

Hirono focused only on the part where he talked about pushing for gun control that in the end they would not pass it, pointed out that it simply meant they would just have to pass it, then pointed out that Hawaii has strict gun control and low gun crime, so gun control clearly works (ignoring the fact that she was talking about an island in the middle of the ocean, so they have advantages in limiting the smuggling by organized crime).

The left is painting the right as violent extremists that need to be put down, while they whip their own crazies up into a frenzy with their calls for action.

I paid as little as 2.789 (after my 5 cent Fuel Rewards discount) for Shell in the month following that prediction.
But before long, it was back over $3. And in late March it hit $4. The rest, as they say, is history.
