An L52 105mm makes more sense. Towed guns should be 105mm. The US isn’t likely to be fighting a positional defense and the ability to move rapidly is important. 155mm is a better performer relative to cube against armor and a worse performer relative to cube against light targets. A formation that is going to fight armor should have self propelled 155s and a light formation 105s, some of which can be towed as needed.

Can we make "smart" rounds like BONUS etc. in a 105? I agree with the logic though. If it's not for racing along with tanks, keep it light as possible.

PGK is the only one of the more complex rounds that I know can be made in 105, the rest were problematic. There was talk of a hit to kill seeking round for anti armor. Never went anywhere. A 105 should be easier to airlift too, the barrels last a lot longer, and with a modular charge system you can get over 30km.

Your other system then would be GMLRS.

The republicans and the democrats would take turns in power, pretending to want to solve problems all the while getting rich and making things worse. When dudes like Capta used to claim "Trump is not a Republican"...I would get upset because he has accomplished all the shit the Republicans have been talking about for decades. But Capta is correct. Trump is not that thing Republicans have turned into.

So we can chose between the Neo-marxists mascaraing as "democrats" or the Trumpsters maskarading as Republicans. Because the system is totally crooked (ask RFK Jr.) you can only be one or the other...

I've heard rumblings that Syrsky is less willing to tolerate dissent than Zaluzhny, but it doesn't seem to have caused that many problems. Also, Zaluzhny and Zelenskyy were fueding very heavily prior to the former's removal, to the point that Zaluzhny was allegedly conducting operations without presidential approval. That relationship needed to end, one way or another. When it comes to replacing Syrsky, I'm certainly open to the idea, but it depends on who he's replaced by. Everything I've seen and read, to include from people within the AFU, indicates that Ukraine lacks good leadership at that level.

Also, I'll say that I don't think that Russia has the mechanization, coordination, or logistical capabilities to exploit any breakthroughs they do make.

Supposedly syrski removed one of very valuable staff officers because he could not tell him what day of orc occupation it was. He is also a micromanager. Early in Bakhmut he had a very large armored fist which he could have used to cut off the Bakhmut bulge. Instead he handed out the tanks piecemeal among various units. (this is all hearsay).
Zaluzny was probably fired because of the operation which he was ordered to stop but he supposedly ignored zelenski and blew up the pipeline which has HUGE repercussions for Ukraine possibly costing them german aid.

I felt for awhile that where UA succeeds is by sucking the Russians in past their tank traps, minefields and trenches and artillery support. We know the Russians suck at combined arms maneuver warfare and logistics.  Stretch them, cut them off, defeat them and then leapfrog past the fixed fortifications and dig in.  Rinse and repeat from the first counteroffensive that was so successful.

Sounds like SAS has trained some people

There was a famous 'Desert Raiders' SAS/Commando mission in WW2.

Previous missions, the Commandos had snuck into German airbases in North Africa, and attached demo charges to their planes while they were parked.

To stop this, pilots were ordered to sleep beneath the planes.

The Commandos stabbed them all in their sleep then blew up the planes.

Thats an interesting concept.

There was a very cool, 17 ton 105mm SPG with a L/52-L/58 barrel, got 30km range, and used tungsten pre formed frag 105 to equal/exceed 155mm M107.

Goal was a c130 deliverable SPG.

lol, I mean I guess I wouldn't mind if they do more direct hits on the water itself in the reservoir instead of the pump and controlling stations.

Sounds like a good opportunity for some more development. I assume an arty fired 105 has good anti-tank capability since it's coming down at an angle. And with the new medium tank sporting a 105 it could benefit from developments also.

Yes I agree. It's better to fight on the nice clean Russian streets among undamaged houses (not for long) rather than on Russian terms wrecking Ukrainian town and villages.

I think once the UA has gone as far and deep as possible, mine everything, maybe leave a token force with orders to withdraw quickly and attack some other soft Russian border region.
