I keep one around the garage, and have one in my off-road vehicles, but as far as carrying it around during my daily bidness? Nah...that's a little to much of an attention-getter for me.

These are 1.75 lb straight.

I've got a couple of 2.25 with the longer handle that I prefer, but these will be fine for their use. They also make a 1.3 head. Some find the handles a bit thin, esp in the throat.

I've got a few Basque axes, most Jauregi, been very happy with them.

Some are hand fitted by me, others are custom by axe men and some are factory. Same for the masks. Some are older than me. Lots of wood time. I need to get a real tomahawk. I have a SOG from a survival store near me. It's basically worthless for most tasks. I like my GB mini or my carvers for close in work. I'm just suburban tree hacker with a minor in wood butchering.

Might want to find a used one on eBay. Cold Steel was bought by GSM and I have a sneaking suspicion that quality is the first thing they cut on the best sellers.

I bought this Husqvarna some years ago and it lives tucked between the passenger seat and center console of my truck....The Husqvarna stuff is made by Hultafors now....comes in handy quite a lot more than I even thought it would...I keep a Silky Gomboy there too and there ain't much I can't do with that pair.

Winkler is gonna be even busier real soon.

The "Terminal List" Amazon series starring Chris Pratt, based on Jack Carr's book, just dropped a teaser and the hawk made an appearance.

Got one in the Sub until I find a cover for a CS Trail Boss. I've been interested in the fokos concept lately; looking for a long handle for one of my Trail Hawks for a hiking thing.

I think I'm gonna make a pilgrimage to Winkler real soon.  I've been putting it off for too long.

Wife just gave me this as a late christmas present.it is a functional, sharp, heavy cleaver. CCW is relative. That's 40" and around 7 lbs.

I'm on the hunt for something a little bigger than a CCW. I don't know if it because I'm back to reping 500 for deadlifts or that I'm just now feeling the urge to live up to my great great great great great great great great great blah blah blah Grandfather King Cnut.

I want an axe. I have a cold steel bearded axe but it's just ok. Maybe the CRKT Cimbri?

I always like seeing this thread pop up!

Whats your budget? That CRKT isn't a bad piece  at all. Obviously, axes and hawks are like anything else in that you can really spend just about anything you want on them. As far as a production piece goes, I'd put CRKT up towards the top of the list. Condor makes a similar style, and I've always been happy with their products.

That handle looks awfully square. Check out the Rinaldi line if that's ok with you, they have a variety of sizes.

Anybody have any experience with the GYPSYEDC tomahawk? I like their idea of setting a tomahawk head in a handle. Kinda want to do something similar with the head of my Cold Steel Trench Hawk.

Watching The Terminal List and seriously considering buying a Sayoc Spike Tomahawk for myself and my brother who introduced me to the series. Can’t decide if he’d prefer a hawk or a Northman.

Is this the winkler RnD compact or full size? I’m going back and forth on which to get, since it’s a $800+ purchase, and I’d prefer to only buy one and be happy with it lol.

I have one, but I’m not sure I want to part with it. I stripped off the tan finish and put a nice dark striped patina on it. Also had a custom kydex sheath made for it. Mine is one of the original ones, before k5 sold the design to benchmade. I have been wanting a winkler, what are you willing to pay for it lol?

Finally joined the club. A Cold Steel pipe hawk and some time to do a little customization.
I did take the 22" handle down to 18" fit in my pack and overall fits better. had to sharpen it also, was dull as Shit when I got it.
It will be fun out in the woods.

For a young Marine who was under house arrest in a building full of drug dealers.

For the older Marine who who introduced us.

For my boss.

All were cut to a beveled 14-16 inches, sanded, the heads properly fit to the shaft, stained and polyurethanes, and the heads stripped, patina’d, and resharpened.

Very nice. To my understanding CS isn't coating them anymore; my first one was coated, the second like halfway coated (talk about a transitional model) and the newer ones are uncoated. My favorite one is the Trail Hawk I cut to 14" and wrapped the handle, very handy.

All of mine were coated very heavily in crappy high temp paint. I had to use a wire wheel on a dremel to remove it.

Loving this thread.

I came to appreciate small axes over machetes and large knives in the woods here.  Been on a lot of trips where my axe was doing twice the work in the same times as guys using large knives.  I'll drag in a pack from a vehicle tomorrow to snap a picture of either my Scandi or Small Forest axe.  Nothing really fancy, just clipped to the outside of a three day pack.

One life hack for axes is I use mine with its mask on to move branches out of my path limiting my exposure to ticks above my waist.
