I have 3 massive ones in my backyard. I love the shade, squirrels that live in the knot holes, and noise-dampening. The leaves don't even bother me that much.
I hate the seed pods that explode and stick seeds to everything, especially my gutters. I also hate the giant branches they drop, one of which skewered my deck this year.

I've got one that is over 100 ft tall, and I would feel better if it was farther away from the house, but so far, the branches it has dropped haven't done any damage.  The other Sycamores are far enough away that I don't worry about them.  Except for the "surprise, here's a limb coming down" factor, I consider the Honey Locust and Osage to be bigger nuisances (my daughter hates them).

Fuck sycamore trees with a rusty cactus. I had a huge sycamore across the street from me that was the bane of my existence for nearly 25 years. That fucker dropped shit in my driveway, yard, gutters and etc. 365 days a year. Sycamore leaves. Sycamore balls. branches both small and large. I cleaned up after that bastard almost every single day of my life for decades. I even offered to split the cost of cutting it down with the elderly neighbor who flat out refused. She finally died and her daughter inherited the house. Two summers ago I came home from work one day and a tree removal company had the street blocked. They were cutting that huge bastard down! It was one of the most satisfying days of the decade....

my dad planted a fuck ton of them at our lake property, the leaves mow up easily, mine dropped off early this year and all at once due to drought I guess, the limbs are crazy and I won't be letting them get too much bigger, at least the ones next to the buildings.

There are plenty of other things in this country to concern yourself with.

Cut that locust up into fence posts. They’ll outlast you. It’s about the only thing they are good for.

Here is one that probably won't be making leaves next year.  Got struck with lightning a couple weeks ago, peeled the bark off parts of it.

It'll probably be fine.  I watched one get hit by lightning.  It splt the tree, and it survived.  It popped the bark off it.

Wrong.  I planted about 100 of them along a fence line because they grow fast, are nitrogen fixers, and excellent bee forage.

I had one in my front yard growing up. My father hated it. The bark shed constantly. I thought it was awesome to try and catch the seed pods when they fell out of the tree. They hit like grenades. I watched someone leave their skull on that tree. I am told that was the third person to forever sleep because of that tree.

They are prone to anthracnose and heartwood rot.

They can suffer from physiological problems from constant expose to artificial nighttime lighting in urban areas.

Sweetgum trees are the worst. Seed pods hard, sharp, kill your feet to walk on, tear up the mower and have a half-life of about 87 years

My favorite tree.  The London Plane hybrid is often planted in cities because they're smog and drought tolerant, but true sycamores tend to like riverbanks.

Sycamore seed balls make good targets at the gun range.

And human caused climate change is causing major pollen count increases...

I used a brush hook to cut down a 1" diameter Sycamore sapling last spring --- I started coughing so much, that my survey party chief ask me if I had Covid 19.
