Picked this up in a trade today. Smith and Wesson 686-6 Plus with a 3" barrel. Wish it didn't have the Hillary hole but no biggie. Never had one with a non-scalloped cylinder before. Looking forward to shooting it.

Ii would like to have a 3in .  Nice pistol. You will enjoy it more with Pachmeyer grips if you use mag ammo. TALO edition is non fluted.

I have the 5" in that series and a 2.75" but with the normal fluted cylinder. Man that 5" is a shooter

Here's my 3" 686+

As far as I know, S&W did not make a 3" 686+ pre-lock.

I sourced a barrel and had a gunsmith make a pair of these for me.

I do wish there were better speed loader options out there for the plus.

I find the current options a bit lacking

I have some Hogue grips around here somewhere I plan on putting on it. 3" barrel seems like a good compromise between a 2" snub nose and a duty length 4".

Anybody know where to get speed loaders for a 7 cylinder?

I have the same gun in 3" from the 3-5-7 series. The only only change was to put on Pachmayr "compact" grips on it. Unfluted cylinders are the best cylinders.

I traded that exact model off years ago and it was an extremely favorable trade deal but I’ve still wanted another 3” 686+ since, for a CCW revolver it’s basically just the pinnacle of options.

You made a good choice.

I just bought the 5-in last year. It's a really nice gun I really like the non-fluted cylinder. I did have an issue with the timing and I had to send it back to Smith and Wesson to fix.

I have the same gun. I put a set of Hogue Bantams on it though, I prefer them for carry and shooting. And since I’m going to the range today, you’ve inspired me to break it out of the safe and bring it with.

My dream revolver is a 3" 686-4 round butt with unfluted cylinders. The only way I'll get it, though, is to get a donor gun and swap out the barrel and cylinder.

Good advise. The factory guns tend to have reasonably decent triggers that get a bit better with use but the simple spring kit will tend to turn a pretty good trigger into something quite wonderful.

Very small improvements in a revolver trigger are what makes them great shooters.

Good advise when swapping out springs is to shoot it with various factory ammo to insure reliability is up there before you count on it for defense use.

Grips are a personal thing . size of hand , strength and shooting style can all come into play. For me the softer Houge grips work better for me than the Packmeyers.

Don't let the peanut gallery get you fired up about the extra hole in the side of the gun . Yes it is dumb and ugly but I have both and have learned to just ignore it and keep shooting. If it makes you crazy there are kits to plug the hole.

I own a 6" 686+(7 shot)  and a 2 1/2 6 shot. more than once I have thought about something to fill the gap , say 4 or 4 1/2

Some shops are mean when they smell a desperate person that needs cash.
I can live with the extra hole but get rid of that stupid key and don't consider using it.
