What a show!

Pretty damned amazing times, I remember reading stuff back in the '60's that had illustrations showing vertical take off and landings. Took a while, but we're finally there.

But seriously, is there anything more 'Merica than a bunch of welders in duallies building a watertower in Texas and attaching the most advanced rocket engine in the world on it and making it fly?

Supposedly, Musk will have updates to announce for the Orbital Prototypes (ETA to test launches, etc) in a couple of weeks.

Making it look good.

If this Starship project lives up to projections we could be sending missions to frikking Saturn. And there's stuff there that we can actually use as opposed to Mars.

Titan has lots and lots and lots of methane. And, Oho? What is it that these Merlin engines are powered with?

They use Methane... specifically because we can get Methane on Mars...

what was your argument again?

I was watching one streaming source (Labs....?) when my link was disrupted.  By the time I got it going again it was in the air.  Then it started dropping and the camera did not pan down.  After 15-20 seconds I then saw a huge cloud of something and then then I saw horizon but no Hopper.  I thought it had blown up.

Missions to the outer planets with just Starships are extremely unlikely. Long term zero g does bad things to the human body including destruction of bones mass, muscle mass, reshaping ocular lens, etc. There is also a power issue as solar is insufficient past Mars and we will need nuclear reactors.

However Starship should provide the low price to orbit so that we can afford to build larger ships. Something like the Discovery One from 2001 could realistically do the job and keep the people healthy. Just carry a Starship with you as the lander.

SpaceX braces for Florida-bound Dorian as hurricane threatens local Starship facility

"The total lack of hurricane-rated protection puts SpaceX’s Starship facility at exceptionally high risk. The Cocoa production facility is thus facing many obstacles with hurricane preparedness as the majority of Starship production takes place outside and is completely vulnerable to the elements. Aerial photos depict what a daunting – if not utterly impossible – task it will be to secure all of the current production pieces of Starship Mk2. "
