they said during the cast (if I heard it correctly) 3 were out but they were cycling through the engines. didn't say why.

I would assume cycling the engines balances the fuel load? Tank pressures? heat?

Mission basically succeeded the second it cleared the launch complex, so SpaceX now has a mountain of data to improve and iterate the next design update.

Just looked in the bottom left hand corner of the feed, it has a diagram of engine status

Looks like 3 were out by time it cleared the tower.

That and they were probably ordered to cheer as long as nobody died.

Yes, I hope the things they learned don't teach them that they have made major design errors, but smaller issues that can be resolved.

They promised excitement.

Clearing the tower was the measure of success. It did it and made it through MaxQ (where increasing air resistance from acceleration produces the maximum pressure on the rocket as the atmosphere thins rapidly from that point on)
Several engines failed, but it still had plenty to continue.
Main engine shut off before separation should have occurred but seemed to have some sort of issue... as some engines seemed to still be firing.
Separation should have occurred but seems to have failed.
Booster started trying to flip backwards to boost back for its "landing"  but with Starship still attached the whole thing began spinning.
Eventually the Flight Termination System was triggered.

Boom!

That was one of the most awesome things I’ve ever seen!

Those clamps are stronk!

What a privilege it is to witness an actual achievement that isn’t a clown world shit show.

In for a post launch concrete survey. Im guessing that some of those debris we saw was concrete from under where the thing sat on the pad running up the engines before it moved.

Im surprised how long it sat there before the clamps released.

Would be neat to work at a place where everyone is so excited and personally invested in the success
But then I have heard that Elon demands a lot of time at work.    Weekends included.  So probably a good bit of burnout

That's from engines experiencing "issues"  What issues precisely we don't know.  They shouldn't happen during a completely nominal flight.

Do remember that the engines on this booster were early production Raptors and the ones coming off the line now are better.

In the first picture in post #15 above (Chokey's post) is the reddish flame a possible sign of an abnormal combustion?

I read where they were going to hold it on the launch mount for up to 8 seconds after engine ignition for some reason. I guess to make sure enough engines were running to get it off the pad. They definitely torched the crap outta the pad!!! LOLOLOL!!!

I can't wait to see the stage 0 damage assessment.
