I down sized from 4.5ac to .5 ac property and decided to switch to a cordless trimmer and blower.
Enough screwing around with 2 cycles, put a battery in and go, I can get a 5-10 head start over gas units. |

Quoted: After you get your new string trimmer, don't use it around an underground Yellowjacket nest with it. The Yellowjackets will come out in a freaking cloud to let you and your gas powered string trimmer know you are not welcome around the entrance to their nest. Ask me how I know... But I imagine it would have been funny as hell to see a video of me hollering like a 10 year old girl as I immediately exited the area, complete with numerous Yellowjackets doing their level best to sting the living' shit out of me. View Quote I hit one a few years ago while trimming some tall grass. Didn't even know it was there until I started getting zapped. Dropped the weed eater and ran screaming like a 12 year-old girl. I think I wound up with about a dozen stings around my knees. |

Ryobi 4 stroke 18" gas.
Also uses ryobi replacement end parts (edger, blower, etc.). |

I use an EGO now but if I had to go gas I'd get another Echo. Mine lasted ten years before it got donated to someone else. Tough little machines.

Echo bought out Shindaiwa long ago. Echo has a 5 year warranty and it's smart to buy it from a dealer if possible. I use the Echo SRM-225 straight shaft. You can't put the cutting blade adapter kit on the curved shaft smaller units. The Stihl are great but they only have a 2 year warranty. Use the best gas possible in your mix and don't leave it in the trimmer if you aren't using it for a few weeks. Gas goes bad much quicker than people think.

My EGO is going on 5 years old. Have the leaf blower and edger also. Would buy again.

I went with an Echo GT-225 (curved shaft) found one for 150 bucks new and it’s plenty for yard. I held a straight shaft and the curved and found the curved more comfortable.
I figured all I’ll be using it for is edging and weed eater around the house and fence. I also got a gallon of Echo 50:1 pre mixed fuel and some extra line |

We've had a Stihl FS90 for the past 10 years, and it has done fine.
We had a Honda HRX217 as well, but gave it to my father in law and picked up a new Ego self propelled mower with a 10ah battery. I haven't taken it out yet, but it seems like a pretty slick system. It weighs half as much as the Honda, and the reported torque output is in line with the Honda. If we like it this spring I may convert fully over to the Ego system. I have a Stihl string trimmer, hedge trimmer, and leaf blower. |

If you think the 131 is over kill look at one of the smaller Kombi it will save you in the long run if you ever think you will need an edger, limb saw or other attachments |

I've had an echo for 15 years. It's always run flawlessly. Stihl guys spend more but their experience won't be better, at best it will equal mine.
Last I looked Echo still had the best string feed head too but I haven't kept up with what the others are doing these days. |

Well GD has won.
I returned the curved shaft Echo 225 and went to my Stihl dealer and picked up a FS 56 RC-E (straight shaft) for 50 bucks more. GD is right, Stihl master race checking in. |

I don't understand everyone complaining about gasoline. I have 4 stihls and they all always fire on the 2nd or 3rd pull.
There's a technique to it, as in don't flood it, but what else are y'all fuckin with? |

That's why I use the curved shaft trimmer around my house/shop. I can pick up lawn chairs, trim then put them back very easily. Behind the shop there's usually several obstacles that have to be moved around to trim. I fucked up my ankle in a dirt bike crash a few years ago, during that summer I would trim from the seat of my mower My brushcutter has bicycle handlebars and it's great for doing heavy cutting but it's also a PITA for quick work because it's very tough to use without the harness. |

Electric is for people that don't know how to run 2 strokes.
I'm running a Stihl trimmer. When it starts acting up a new carburetor assembly is under $10. I won't switch to electric until it dies completely. |

My stihl is a beast do some trimming and when the need for clearing out dense growth it does wonderful.

Picked up my Stihl FS 56 RC-E yesterday and holy shit is it powerful, blew the Echo out of the water. Also was easier to start and feels better.
I went ahead and bought the Stihl premixed fuel, makes it easier for me. Ya definitely way more happy with the Stihl! |

New gas, new plug, nada. I have a new igniter module for it I just have not had a chance to work on it - I'd kind of forgotten about it. I have a battery powered trimmer that works, not as fast and takes a couple charges - but it starts every time. |
