Update 4/23
First, a big thank you to whoever sent this very nicely addressed letter.... There is a student who's had some home life problems and has had to move out. She told me she was not able to afford her sweatshirt that she had ordered. This will cover enough of that for her. Thank You!  New sweatshirts are out and about.   Jump wings requested.....  Viking Horn blower's tower.  Crows are starting to appear in our skies.   Been a little tight getting the lift in the right places with those wings.  More crow.  Pheasant feathers being painted for our crow's wings and tail  Detail spikes for our dragon's face, and wings.  Our castle is at the stage where we can start adding more details. Lights.       We are playing with some stain for the castle. Not sure where it will go, or how much.   Finishing up the ghost bow. We might get it hung up by this afternoon.  Valkyries portraits getting anchors to attach wire for hanging. Layers of burlap and bondo make them pretty solid.  |

Update 4/24
Our "baby dragon" skeleton got hung up yesterday, and a few more areas patinaed that were missed. We are looking at other things we can do to it.    Elk antler tips are getting added to our dragon's head.   I'm told we will soon be done with detail tiles on the tower. We have discussed further details that might be added to accent it a bit more. Tower fighters are still being painted and will be added.  The horn blower's tower is ready to paint. A ladder will be added.  Crows/Ravens all being added through out the display. Getting closer to done on our base coats and clouds of the mural has freed up artists to begin adding things like this. We will also be adding sinking weapons below the older long ship.  Valkyrie heads going up. Clouds will be adjusted around them a bit and we might add a bit of fabric flowing into the clouds at some point.  An area for "Investors" is also underway.  Oh, and the ghost ship is up on the wall.   Mist will begin today around the ship  The hear got a little covering on it.  The castle continues to get detail patina. Stains on the castle walls were yesterday's concentration. Ideas are still flowing here.  |

Update 4/25
We have an open house tonight from 7-8pm. I expect all of you Arfcomers to be there.  It's an k-12 Art show and Jazz concert. I just ran around and adjusted all the timers on the displays so the lights will be on. We had our F-22 up and running yesterday.......then we broke a weapon's bay door strut.  It's pretty cool. Wiggles the wings, opens and closes the weapon's bay doors, and does allow the missile to pop out of the side bay, then go back in. The printing was pretty light, so we will replace the strut with a higher quality, more durable print and see how it goes. As to our 2nd Age of Vikings.... We are closer to having a surf board. Not sure exactly where this will end up, but I can see a crewmember holding it upright in the longship, as other have their weapons in hand.  My robotics team seems to be in high gear. They have been installing pieces in our lungs, as well as going over what needs done on the castle gates.....and repairing the F-22.  Our dragon's heart got the other side covered with fabric yesterday afternoon. They will work to connect it together now, as they did with the lungs.  The horn blower's stand is almost ready to be displayed. We need to work on the ropes to hold the horn, and need a guy painted.  Longship hull details continue. We should have some paint and more rope anchor points up later today.  More ravens/crows being added to the mural.  Weapons falling from the surface of the water are also underway. We need to add some bubbles and need some orientation work on the next few.  Fog around the ghost bow is underway.  Our dragon's head has more elk antler points. We should be working up the back of his head today.  Detail patina is continuing on our castle walls. We didn't get to any birds yesterday.

Had the opportunity to see the dragon and the rest of the display in person tonight. Pictures do not do it justice. Guns, your students are doing incredible work! I really like the Valkyrie and the dragon eyes in the base of the village…and the ghost ship…and the stain glass windows…and the dragon rider…and the texture of the castle. I think this one is my favorite display.

Update 4/26
Last night the open house went well. Couple Arfcomers showed up with their families. We pulled the shield off the wall for a bit of handling and show and tell.  The motion activated light sensor for the room is hidden a bit now, and it was fun to see the room without the overhead lights.   We had a fire drill yesterday. Students were sporting their hoodies.  More crows and spikes on our dragon's head. We will add a few smaller ones to his nose today.   Getting some Investors names up on the wall.  Fog being added to our ghost ships bow.  Our skeleton raven getting a few feathers added. It's pretty wild to look at up close. It looks pretty real.      Spears getting ready to paint.  Axe heads being carved.  Horn blower's stand with horn and blower.  We began adding ropes to our sail and mast.  |

Update on our F-22
It was exciting to see our F-22 actually up and running. Students did replace the arm that broke yesterday morning, and had it ready for last night. We had a little hiccup right at the beginning of the night, as the bay door with the missile kept binding up, causing the system to blink S.O.S. After seeing which doors were struggling, I sprayed a bit of lubricant onto the arm actuators and it seemed to slick it all up. We need to update the timer a bit. It runs almost continuality right now, as there is no 10min interval programed in, but it ran perfectly all during the open house and was working fine this morning. It scared the shit out of a few people as the doors opening are quite sudden and quick. I heard a few curse words last night by some folks I was not expecting to hear them from. Lots of laughter at people getting a little spooked by the sudden movement.Watch the end for the wing wiggle. We might have to mess with the programing a bit more, and adjust times We don't want to break things, and lifting the wing with it's anchor point, causes some weight to happen after just a few seconds. Previous project related, but was repp'ing at the Sheppard AFB Show today. A young Captain spotted the shirt and asked about the 307th. Explained the shirt, area code, and showed some pics and the recent video.was informed "that's bad-assed!" Was given a Squadron patch courtesy of the 525th Fighter Squadron of JB Elmendorf-Richardson. It'll be coming your way soon.

Update 4/29
Another ship is in port.  Our castle is getting a little lighter patina across some of the brickwork now.  Our raven waiting to be displayed.  Tiny ravens for the castle.    Some antler tips on the dragon's nose.   I think they have one more to add today.  I think we have all the fog up around our ghost bow now.   More floating and falling weapons in our mural below the original viking ship.  Not sure how much more we have to go on our Paris mural. A bit of smoke may need to be added. We will discuss it.  Friday we worked to get one of the rear legs up on our dragon. We had to take apart the knee. It was a bit difficult as it was glued rather securly.   This leg has the original student signatures on it. We had to trim off a bit of the foam on the inside of the leg, and remove a few scales for it to fit properly. We then did the same with the scales on the right hip area. We also got the knee apart no the right side. We won't hang the other rear leg till we get a bit more scale work done.   The front legs are going to be a bit more challenging. We have opened up the foam a bit, but I think we will have to remove some inside leg muscle also. It has to slide in, then forward over the shoulder blade. I'm hoping we get one figured out this morning.  |

Running around checking on parts of our project that are being done in other classrooms this morning.
Check from Custom Ink for $4700 was mailed on the 8th.....still not here.  3D printed keel carving for the tail of our long ship. Didn't get test printed for size this weekend. Dragon head for our long ship hasn't had any work on it in a week, but "will get done this week!" 3D printed railings that should have been printed Friday are no where to be found. Yay Monday! Who's in charge of this crazy operation?????

Where did you get the raven skeleton? Did it come with the half rotted off feathers? It's a really cool item! Seems they would have even got the skin color on feet right (if any was left), crows have black feet while Ravens are half again as big with pinkish-white greyish skin.
How did you make the small ravens for castle? Look too smooth to be 3D prints. How did the duck stamp contest go? Did I miss a results post? |

We added the feathers and patina. Small ravens for the castle are made from taxidermy epoxy putty. National Duck stamp comp saw Sophia end up 14th. Not what we were hoping for. Still a great showing, but I thought she might win it this year.

Update 4/30
I was gone yesterday afternoon for a dental cleaning appointment, so not many photos of progress. Looks like Custom Ink is going to have to stop payment on the check and issue us a new one. Little more digging is going on, as there is tracking on the check. They called and talked to our Admin billing dept yesterday. Maybe they can work out a electronic transfer instead. I'll know more later this afternoon.  With some modification to the foam on the inside of the shoulder, and some scales removed, we were able to get the front leg up, and secured to the shoulder blade. It was a little more involved than I thought, but we have the plan to follow for the right side now too. We will work to get the rear right leg up and work around it with scales over the coming days. We also need to check to see if we will still have clearance enough for install of the heart and lungs.   5th spike was applied to his nose yesterday afternoon. We will work today to paint around the foam edges that were drilled and cut for the legs and antler tips.
