Sure I'll try others if offered, but with those 3, I consider the home bar well rounded concerning bourbon. Rye, is another matter. |

Just picked up another wt 101 1.75 and old forester 100 rye. And a veuve to keep the wife quiet.
I went with the old forester because of the higher rye in the mash bill. One shot in and still not sure if rye is my bag. It certainly is different than what I'm used to. |

View Quote Let it sit a day and try it again. What do you like/not like? Imo OF is a fairly well balanced, inexpensive entry level Rye, it doesn't really shine in any particular area. Ryes can be super sharp/spicy to strangely sweet, like Bourbon, flavor profiles are all over the place. Nothing wrong with a splash of bottled water to cut it back to the 80ish proof range to get used to it. Cubes are fine, but the cold WILL alter the flavor. Play around and drink it however it appeals to you. |

View Quote I am in the same club. I enjoy good whisky neat and drink my fair share socially, with my wife and with good friends. And, I don't want my whisky near water, ice or any mixer of any sort and have enjoyed it for years this way(I am not a huge fan of Manhattan's either). My go to's are Knob Creek, Buffalo, Blanton's, I also agree that the Wild Turkey Distillery over the years has stepped up their game and many others. I am no connoisseur by any stretch like some may here but, I know what I like and I just can't wrap my taste buds around rye whisky. Funny enough, I am not a huge fan of Bulliet Whisky, but their 12 yr Rye is excellent and oddly it's the only Rye I can enjoy. |
