These were both allocated in Oho and at MSRP

Full story to come. I definitely recommend visiting them if you get a chance.

This is truth.

I bought a few bottles from them when I visited there in 2022.

Not a fan of the Caribou. Yes it's very smooth, but IMO pretty dull-the smoothness is all it has.

Lots of people love it though, maybe you will.

Had a good morning at the local raffle.   Very few people showed up so we all got 3 chances at what was on the tables. Between my wife and I we got 3-bottles total:

Old Charter Oak French Oak / Jack Daniel’s 12-year batch 2 /  Four Roses Private Select Barrel Strength OBSQ. All slightly above MSRP , but hard to get in these parts. That OBSQ is one of my favorite bourbons.

Anyone picked up a penelope rio? A buddy found a bottle down in GA a few weeks ago and let me try it. It's currently sitting at the best bourbon flavor wise I've ever had. They knocked it out of the park with that one!!

Wow, I forgot how good this stuff is. I’ve had several bottles in the past, and have always enjoyed it, but it’s been a while.

My local Costco started carrying it and I picked up a couple of bottles a few weeks ago. Finally cracked one open…it won’t last long.

I predict a return trip to Costco in the very near future.

YUM!

Really didn't look into bourbon until recently. Been mostly a cognac drinker and occasional scotch.

I'm a bit on the opposite side.  I didn't discover cognac until a trip to Ireland in 2017, and had some Hennessey XO.

I might end up picking up a bottle per year now.

So last night I performed a couple experiments with my RR Rye and Bushmills 12.

I had been sipping on the Russell's without any water added, and the flavor just did not work with my palate.  Earlier this week I picked up some Bushmills 12 as I wasn't sure I'd open the RR again outside of doing some cooking with it.

Well, I decided to add a tablespoon's worth of water to each one (in the glass, not the bottle), and see how the flavor changed.

The RR was immediately better, and that was a pleasant surprise.

The Bushmills 12 was different, and I wouldn't call it better or worse, just different.  It seemingly woke it up.  I think the next time I pour a glass of the 12, it will not have any water added as I preferred that taste a bit.

If you buy a bottle of bourbon or rye whiskey or something and it does not work for you when sipping it neat, consider a small amount of water as an option to help it.

I’m still a fan of cognac and keep it stocked.

I have remy xo, Hennessy xo, Martel xo, courvoisier xo, Hennessy privilege, and Martel cordon bleu in stock at any given time.

Recently picked up a Hennessy masters blend that I need to crack open.

Went to Milwaukee last week. Drove back through Ky.
Stopped in Brook’s, KY to rest the night.
Went by Brook’s Liquor. This guy had all kinds of good stuff.
Bought 2 Blanton, an EH Taylor, Peerless Double Oaked , and a 1792 BinB.
Great place. A buddy with me got a Blanton and the only Caribou Crossing in the place.
If I ever make it back that way, I’ll be stopping.

Roots of Ruin is a good deal. It came bundled with Blanton’s for $110 as a package deal. After trying it, I would buy Roots of Ruin on its own.

List for Alabamas quarterly sweepstakes. They draw 50 names per store, 22 stores throughout the state participate. I got number 33 which means I'll probably be number 30 going in because people don't always show up. I've actually seen three of the first five not show up before.
You can pick one bottle from table 1 and one bottle from table 2. Quantity available is released the day before.

Anyone else seeing EC toasted barrel showing up in their area? All of the sudden every store has cases of it. A lot of McKenna 10 on the shelves as well.

I used the last of my Four Roses Small Batch to flavor an Imperial Stout I brewed and have been without Bourbon for several weeks.

Today, I bought my first barrel pick.  They had two and offered me samples and this one was pretty freaking good.   I've only recently become interested in Bourbon and know practically nothing, other than my tastes in bourbon are similar to my tastes in beer...... sweet, smooth, and on the heavier side of body.

I forget what the other barrel pick was (pretty sure it was one of the blue note varieties), but it was 117 proof and my throat is still burning.

I've now seen Woodford Reserve barrel picks in two other local stores, so I guess their sales rep came thru, fairly recently.

I wanted to try the one I saw today, for comparison purposes, but the owner wasn't in and he's the only one allowed to give out samples.  I didn't think to ask at the other store where I saw one.

Maybe I'm just looking for it more often, but in the past week, I found Blanton's twice, one place for 100 which is high, but the other place in a kit for 100 (with a bottle of vodka and chardonnay).

The secondary market is starting to cool off, and the Blanton's market has definitely cooled.

Bardstown Bourbon Company "The Art of Blending" Class was quite fun.

I figured out that a 4 year bourbon they made compared to a 12 year bourbon they bought from someone can taste very similar.

thanks, I've only been "bourbon hunting" for about a month now. And I asked my cousin, I want to try something similar to what I liked of his (the old Forrester "women in whisky"), that wasn't difficult to get, and he recommended the prohibition style old Forrester so I grabbed one.

All of their "whiskey row" series are great.  I like the 1910 old fine whiskey, it's a bit more woody than most being twice barreled but it's nice.
