Had a good morning at the local raffle. Very few people showed up so we all got 3 chances at what was on the tables. Between my wife and I we got 3-bottles total:
Old Charter Oak French Oak / Jack Daniel’s 12-year batch 2 / Four Roses Private Select Barrel Strength OBSQ. All slightly above MSRP , but hard to get in these parts. That OBSQ is one of my favorite bourbons. |

Anyone picked up a penelope rio? A buddy found a bottle down in GA a few weeks ago and let me try it. It's currently sitting at the best bourbon flavor wise I've ever had. They knocked it out of the park with that one!!

So last night I performed a couple experiments with my RR Rye and Bushmills 12.
I had been sipping on the Russell's without any water added, and the flavor just did not work with my palate. Earlier this week I picked up some Bushmills 12 as I wasn't sure I'd open the RR again outside of doing some cooking with it. Well, I decided to add a tablespoon's worth of water to each one (in the glass, not the bottle), and see how the flavor changed. The RR was immediately better, and that was a pleasant surprise. The Bushmills 12 was different, and I wouldn't call it better or worse, just different. It seemingly woke it up. I think the next time I pour a glass of the 12, it will not have any water added as I preferred that taste a bit. If you buy a bottle of bourbon or rye whiskey or something and it does not work for you when sipping it neat, consider a small amount of water as an option to help it. |

Went to Milwaukee last week. Drove back through Ky.
Stopped in Brook’s, KY to rest the night. Went by Brook’s Liquor. This guy had all kinds of good stuff. Bought 2 Blanton, an EH Taylor, Peerless Double Oaked , and a 1792 BinB. Great place. A buddy with me got a Blanton and the only Caribou Crossing in the place. If I ever make it back that way, I’ll be stopping. |

Anyone else seeing EC toasted barrel showing up in their area? All of the sudden every store has cases of it. A lot of McKenna 10 on the shelves as well.

I used the last of my Four Roses Small Batch to flavor an Imperial Stout I brewed and have been without Bourbon for several weeks.
Today, I bought my first barrel pick. They had two and offered me samples and this one was pretty freaking good. I've only recently become interested in Bourbon and know practically nothing, other than my tastes in bourbon are similar to my tastes in beer...... sweet, smooth, and on the heavier side of body. I forget what the other barrel pick was (pretty sure it was one of the blue note varieties), but it was 117 proof and my throat is still burning. Attached File |

Maybe I'm just looking for it more often, but in the past week, I found Blanton's twice, one place for 100 which is high, but the other place in a kit for 100 (with a bottle of vodka and chardonnay).

Bardstown Bourbon Company "The Art of Blending" Class was quite fun. I figured out that a 4 year bourbon they made compared to a 12 year bourbon they bought from someone can taste very similar. |
