Just musing but I'm wondering if they'll fix the hole they had the last time with college age kids who received nothing nor the parents though they were still covered as dependents on tax forms, insurance and such. That issue seemed to have been fairly prevalent the last go around sans the money machine go brrrrrr and I ain't getting nothings.

Actually, I have felt that handing out money at the individual citizen level made a lot of sense during this unprecedented crisis. My problem has been with all the "back door bailouts" that have greatly exceeded this amount and largely gone to the financial parasite class of money-movers that do not participate in the real economy (and who were in real trouble several months before the virus, as reflected by the repo market problems). Trump has tried to do the right thing here, keeping the real economy open against Democrats that are actively trying to destroy it. Whatever he needs to do to win he gets a pass on from me at this point.

Trump is awesome as screwing over the Democrats. The Democrats passed a massive stimulus bill 3 months ago and the Republicans did nothing because they thought the virus and economy would be better. Mitch ran down the clock and things didn't get better. Mitch was screwed as he had nothing and the Dems were rightly so blaming him for doing nothing. The Dems started adding even more things into what they wanted because they were so confident that Mitch would have to fold as people were needing unemployment extended, another stimulus check, money to renovate schools...etc. Mitch started to waiver and considered bumping his bill from 1 trillion to 2 trillion. Then Trump stepped in extended unemployment, extended the eviction ban, and took away most of the major pressing issues. The Dems started screaming about it and started backing down on their demands but not by much. So Trump steps in again and takes away the last major pressing issue. All the leverage the Dems gained by Mitch doing nothing was just lost.
Also Trump's plans are solid or immediate. This isn't finalized and in place. Trump is using it as leverage to get the Dems back to the table. If they don't he will push forward but there will be a big gap in coverage and delays in any stimulus checks, simply because that is how long it takes for the government to do things.. |
