I’ve already recently stopped smoking and vaping and got back to the gym, so I’m baby stepping my exit from vices, and coffee is next, but I am going to step down slowly.

Try it and see but the superior solution is ditch it entirely since you will function quite well energy-wise without it.

I'm still vaping. Need to stop soon. Vices don't really fit my goals and mindset. I can quit that cold turkey but caffeine I have to taper down carefully or I get major withdrawal headaches

My wife and I also discovered the food pyramid lie.  My breakfast for the last year, one meal a day, snack at night of nuts and an avocado.  Weekends I eat what I want, no sugar, some carbs though.  I gained 10 pounds of muscle, lost the gut and love handles.  I always feel energized, sleep well, blood work is good much to the surprise of my doctor.  Pics shows 2 free range chicken eggs, grass fed steak, 1/3 stick of Kerry Gold butter.  I also add a handful of cheddar cheese right before I turn off the heat.  I make a whey protein shake with strawberries and home cultured kefir and eat a whole avocado every day too.  Wife is also into it.  I thought it was nuts until she showed me a few videos by people who know what they are talking about.  Facts are facts, we were misled starting in the 50's and now are the fattest most unhealthy people on the planet.  Good protein and fat (100/75) is all you need.  Seed oils, carbs, processed foods, feedlot beef, sugar, all are like slow acting poison.

I'm not a salt expert, but there's this info about Himalayan sea salt.

Himalayan salt ingredients include 80-some minerals, so over 65 of these are either harmful or are not helpful.

According to Harriet Hall, M.D. of The Society for Science-based Medicine:

"Only about a quarter of the minerals in Himalayan pink salt are nutrients that the human body can or might be able to use. The other three quarters are not recognized as nutrients and would be better classified as contaminants. They have no known health benefits, and many of them are known to be harmful. The list includes many poisons like mercury, arsenic, lead, and thallium. Himalayan salt ingredients also include radioactive elements: radium, uranium, polonium, plutonium, and many others."

Clearly more info about salt sources Vs trace minerals needs to be quantified.
Like I said, I'm not a salt expert.

ETA: Even different sources for granite used in countertops and other building products can have radioactive isotopes in them.

Has one anyone tried any of these that have 0 carbs, are carnivore-friendly, and do NOT taste bad?

I’ve been using this and even when using less than the maximum recommended amount, it still tastes like 25% seawater.

Devil’s advocate:  Himalayan pink salt is superior because you build up tolerance to those harmful contaminants due to a constant, minute intake.

Some people might need electrolytes but I bet most don't. Our ancestors didn't have electrolyte packets.

The artificial sweeteners and whatever numerous other chemicals are absolutely no good. I've noticed they do affect my hunger, metabolism, and energy levels.

I had constant muscle cramps at one point. I started eating more and using a generous amount of salt. Went away completely

I do think spring/artesian/well water is crucial for the minerals, so if you can't access good water for some reason, packaged electrolytes could be a good addition if you can find something that has no sweeteners

Humans evolved drinking unfiltered, unpurified water from 'muddy' puddles, and natural sources, too.
A lot of natural electrolytes from those places on a daily basis.
And a lot of those normally original sources aren't anywhere near potable anymore.

Yeah I saw Dr. Berry's video talking about that. Others disagree with him (that they're needed) and it's probably more complicated than we/I make it. Obviously humans lived all over the world and thus had different sources and methods. Spring water or well water is probably a fair approximation. If you drink purified or tap water, electrolytes are probably a good idea/necessary

Are you guys taking electrolytes taking them after having issues or just in case? If no sweeteners and chemicals, there's nothing wrong with it. Just maybe a waste and I do see people getting hooked on sweeteners/flavors

Be wary of "Natural flavors." But that actually looks decent otherwise. If somebody is adamant about getting more electrolytes, it's probably less expensive and definitely less "flavors" to just get individual tablets for the main minerals.

I've been on this WOE since Jan 2 this year. Ive been low carb/keto diet since 2020 and had overall good results. Went from 209 to mid 160s- low 170s for the last 3 years.  Work out 3-4 times a week, walk 4-5 miles 4x a week, overall in good health.  Im also a backpacker and like to do long distance hikes for a week or more in the mountains. One of the health issues that plagued me constantly was fatigue and my IBS-C, which Ive tried every diet know over the last 15 years to correct.  Nothing makes it better or helps.  In fact the more I did what the digestive specialist said to do, the worse it got.
Since I went straight carnivore, my IBS is GONE.  No gas, no bloating, no pain, no constipation. I also have EOE (Eosinophilic esophagitis) which Ive been on reflux meds for years for,  but it still flamed up on me all the time.  It's now gone as well.  I quit taking all my meds expect for 1-2x a week a dose of miralax just to make sure my constipation doesn't cause an issue.

Since Jan 2 my weight has gone from 173 at 22% BF to 151 at 14% BF.  I am leaner than I was in high school and I'm 49 now.  My BP was always borderline high 130-140/90-100.  This AM it was 116/65. I have energy for days, sleep better, skin is better, thoughts are clearer and faster.   I just completed a 229 mile section hike on the AT, averaged 18 miles a day and ran up and down those mountains like I was a kid.  I couldn't be perfect on straight carnivore on the hiking trip, but kept it as clean and keto as possible, but even the small amount of veggies or fruit I ate caused me serious digestive discomfort.  I would pig out on hamburgers and eggs when I could get town food and carried cheese, salami, butter, and chomps sticks with me while hiking.

Im doing lab work this week to see what effect this is having on my blood numbers, but I don't see anything besides increased cholesterol being flagged, which is a whole different post and conversation!

Just wanted to share my story and successes that I've had so far in a short period of time.  For me, this WOE is here to stay! I feel 25! ( My wife says I look better now than I did at 25! )

Congrats!

Yesterday I ate the following:

BREAKFAST

Fried eggs (cooked in butter) and bacon

LUNCH

Grass-fed ground beef patties (cooked in bacon grease)

DINNER

Prime ribeye steak (cooked in ghee)

If people have health concerns or issues with the initial side effects, that’s one thing.  However, I have no idea how a true meat lover could ever “get tired” of eating this way.  The only exception(s) would be if they were trying this on a very tight budget and could only buy cheap meat and/or they REALLY sucked at cooking.

Ive always been a bigger fan of chicken than beef, so it will have some challenges for me. I cant see how chicken, butter and salt would still be enticing after a while

We still have about 1/4 cow in the freezer, and bunch of roast cuts. Im going to look into maybe grinding them for burgers, meatballs, etc.

I still eat chicken thighs several meals/week no probs, I don't get bored eating the same stuff if the choices are exclusively beef/chicken/pork/occasional fish.
I don't need a variety of sauces and gravys to keep it interesting.

But anecdotally - a lot of guys say they just get burned out for chicken around the 6 month mark, and drop it from the rotation.  I understand that everyone has different preferences, but I've never heard anyone say they were tired of beef or pork, and cutting either of those two out.
I'm just saying.

I wouldn’t touch ‘em.  YMMV.

My meat’s ingredients should be: Meat.  Salt and pepper optional.

Anything that has 1g of carbs or more per severing is a no-go for me.

I was looking into switching my bacon up with some sausage every now and then and this seems to be the best option my grocery store has:

My wife and I are in our 50's and are on day 15. My wife lives with hot flashes every day and for her it's a special kind of hell.

She realized yesterday that she hasn't had one in about 5 days. They just stopped completely. I told her this morning it also looks like she rolled back the clock about 5 years. This is just absolutely crazy.

I also discovered if you're out and really hungry, Chilli's restaurant has a protein only menu. They serve only the steak with no sides and it's only like 15 dollars for a ribeye.

That becomes a lot simpler.  Unless I’m getting ghee, I can pick up all of my food without ever venturing more than 10 yards away from the outer edge of the store.

Still got some grocery shopping to do, but have plenty of meat in the freezer.

Ready to go

If everything comes in and ready, I may move up my start date from 4.1 to 3.25. Have to see how the rest of this week pans out

Not enough fat.  Increase in protein should be accompanied with more good fat.  75% fat to protein.

Perhaps because you didn't add enough extra fat.  Kidneys need enough fat to process the extra protein.  We eat 75% fat to meat.  Kerry Gold butter is good, as well as avocado.  I have a 1/3 stick of butter with grass fed hamburger, 2 eggs, a whole avocado, a handful of cheddar cheese and a bit of salt once a day.  Feel great, losing excess fat, building muscle.

Just to clarify something for y'all... When you hear people talking about fat to protein ratios they are referring to or at least should be referring to calories from fat to protein.

Protein has 4 calories per gram where as fat has 9 calories per gram. For reference a ribeye steak (including the fat) is about the perfect fat to lean ratio.

This is where some of the "diet" tracking apps are good at dialing in macros.

All those talk about a electrolytes, I just eat a lot of salt, and the only water I drink is mineral water.

I use Celtic grey sea salt.

I got mine for preventative measures due to some horror stories.

I add ZERO salt to anything I ever eat (currently not carnivore) and Ive never added salt to any of my food....ok, just corn on the cob, but thats it and dont eat it often. The foods I eat currently are not high in sodium (except for the chili crisp I occasionally use with eggs) so the only thing salty about me is my personality

I drink a gallon of water every day, so I just wanted them to add them in to be safe. Small price to pay IMO
