DUBAI, Dec 3 (Reuters) - The United Arab Emirates ordered 80 Rafale fighter jets and 12 military helicopters on Friday, deepening economic and political ties with France through an arms contract worth 17 billion euros ($19.20 billion).

France has a pretty robust domestic military industry.
They produce tanks, fighters, and small arms. Hell they even have a carrier. However, the Eurofighter is much sexier. |

They have bought French armament since the 80s. They had Mirage fighters they didn’t fly during GW1 because so did the Iraqis.
Their aircraft shelters are also French made. |

UAE is not happy with us for a number of reasons on the defense side. I'm sure that displeasure affected this purchase decision. We're seeing a general trend of Middle East countries looking to deepen both purchase and training relationships with other US countries both as a hedge against further US withdrawal and as a tool of leverage to prevent that withdrawal.
