We'll make up for it in the future when the world is dependent on American satellite internet constellations for their backhaul, and American space companies to put them up.

Studies are inconclusive, and time will tell, but I am putting money on cancer.  Also a long-time HAM radio operator.

Cancer.org
"If RF radiation is absorbed in large enough amounts by materials containing water, such as food, fluids, and body tissues, it can produce heat. This can lead to burns and tissue damage. Although RF radiation does not cause cancer by damaging DNA in cells the way ionizing radiation does, there has been concern that some forms of non-ionizing radiation might have biological effects that could result in cancer in some circumstances."

I live in Detroit and work in the auto industry. A little birdie who works on the regulatory harmonization/standards side of electric cars at his big three company tells me that the push for 5g is being driven by China. Apparently they are required to pull all data off of electric vehicles all the time, in real time-the mandate will apply to normal cars there too.

The big talk at work for him is about Big Data and turning the data generated by US cars into a revenue stream in the same way your cable company monitors your activity and processes speech to sell the data..... like with China, that can only happen with the 5G network in place to handle the data.

Can’t wait until it’s illegal here to travel in a car that doesn’t have a .gov black box in it.

Korea (at least South Korea) is a relatively small country - both population and geographically - which makes it a lot easier to implement such advances. The US is relatively HUGE and far more spread out. It takes a ton more investment to build out networks.

I'm not surprised that a technologically advanced smaller country like Korea is ahead on things like wireless networking.

I get that but AT&T and the rest of these asswipes are shelling out gobs of money on stadiums that could easily be used on infrastructure.  I still call it Jerryworld or the deathstar.  Brand recognition is more tied with quality of service. They just haven't figured it out yet.

There will never be cable access "throughout" the US because it makes no sense to run cable where population density is incredibly low.

State-owned utilities might do something that stupid.  That doesn't mean we should emulate their stupidity.

They just want your data, they want high enough throughput and low enough latency to where all data is captured directly to hosted services by default eg the cloud. Buy the 8GB model iphone XIIV and use remote storage services for default storage device.

American companies dropped the ball on 5G. Cisco and the other should own that industry.

But it looks like China will own it, like the Japanese owned the RAM industry in the 80's. The Chinese govt., like Japanese govt., subsidized the 5G tech companies with $ billions so they could control the market. Cisco and other US tech companies received no subsidies. They do it all on their own. They are at fault for dropping the 5G ball, but with Chinese govt. investing $ billions in 5G companies like Huawei, they didn't stand a chance. Huawei won't even disclose their true relationship with the chicom govt. and how much of their company is actually owned by the chicoms. Chinese capitalism is a farce. There is no free trade, no fairness in our relationship with China. Huawei products should be banned from the United States.

With Huawei's princess president detained in Canada and other nations having second thoughts about letting their tech infrastructure get THAT heavily entangled with known spyware,  5G's future may not be as certain as it seems.

At least on the current terms.
