Am I the only one that has forgotten most of the bad shit?
Of the people I shot the only ones I remember are the 4 that were looking me in the eye when the shooting started and of course the young woman in the white blouse we ambushed. I don't remember how the front of my shins burned after humping all that weight up some jungle covered mountain in 100° degree heat. I don't remember sweating. I do however remember the mosquitos. Actually I don't remember much. I can't remember the names I thought I would never forget but I still remember the young faces even if I can't put a name on them. I guess that is what time does for you. |

My very young Brother in Law about 1966 or '67. He spent 13 years after the war in a NVN (re-education) prison camp. Today he lives in the Atlanta area with his wife and two daughters.

No do not know him, I did not serve and don't know him. There is a Alan Cypert on facebook but I think it was spelled a little different that served but not sure if it was in NAM he does seem to be near that age now. Odds are it is not him, but if you want to look. I see there's a few other Sky Soldiers on here. Thank you for all you did. My dad was a medic in the 173d, I believe he was over there in 70-71. He doesn't talk much about it, but there's been a few times I've told him about certain calls I've been on and he's nonchalantly said, yeah, those suck, especially when someone is shooting at you.

Taken Nov 1969. The hat was OK but couldn't really take it to the field (had to wear the steel pot) so I shipped it home. Still have it. :) Not sure where it was taken but I am guessing it was during a company standdown. I was a grunt so all I can guess is someone left their LOH too close to where I was shamming...

Lots of our guys had boony hats and wore them on ambushes and other things outside the perimeter when you couldn't make any noise.

getting the ambush order for the night, from the rear SSgt Barnett, KIA 4/69, Doc Presser, Myself, LT Smith, sitting on the hooch, SFC KIA in later tour 1970 and I don't remember the name of the guy in the foreground 
treating a wounded POW after an ambush in July 68 
lifting a disabled huey, we were picked up from an ambush, we took fire from the tree line and it hit the transmission, he managed to land it, called for a pickup and the shit hook came by and lifted it out, notice the picture is from the ground, the hook landed picked up the crew and had us hook up the line and left, they promised to send another huey to pick us up, they never did. I was the ranking NCO, just got my Sgt stripes, we were out of radio range, we had no where to go. I set up a perimeter and we made radio calls every 15 minutes all through the night. at dawn I figured the nearest friendlies were at the SF camp at Loc Nihn, about 60 K away so we were about to set out for it then the BN Commander heard our radio call and picked us up, I heard he chewed out everyone above the rank of E3 at the helicopter company for leaving us out there. that was the second time I was left at an LZ due to helicopter issues'
