Awesome. That's a hell of a difference.

My WE heads shipped and I should have them tomorrow.

Aside from the 9th ed. rulebook, what would we need? Is a combat patrol box and codex enough to play with? I don’t know how many minis we need for a basic game, nor anything about dreadnoughts, vehicles, etc.

If you want to dip your toes into this hobby I'd say go with a kill team boxed set. It's a skirmish game based in the 40k universe but the rules are different than big 40k. It's more squad based and has less minis. They just released a new set call Kill Team Into the Dark. If you want big 40k then the combat patrols are a good starting point for an army.

Nice posing and I like the base even if you’re a filthy Loyalist.

The Contemptor dread reminds me more of Mechwarrior or Battletech, in a good way.

GW is releasing 4 Kill Team boxed sets a year (1/quarter). So far, only the first boxed sets (Kill Team Octarius and Kill Team Into the Dark) came with the core rulebook. All the sets come with 2 teams, dice, terrain.

Season 1
Kill Team Octarius
Kill Team Chalnath
Kill Team Nachmund
Kill Team Moroch

Season 2
Kill Team Into The Dark
Kill Team ?
Kill Team ?
Kill Team ?

All the boxed sets other than Into the Dark are out of print but you can pick them up on eBay still. Here's more info.

Nice. I've been wanting to get into Kill Team but wasn't sure which set was the one with the core rules.

Thanks. It's been so long since I've done it that I have to keep reminding myself these aren't display pieces, and it's ok of they aren't perfect. They're gaming peices and they're going to get messed up during play. Vehicles and characters will get special care, but everything else is getting tabletop ready. I'm not entering Golden Daemon or anything. Otherwise nothingwill ever be done. Ihave a 1/16 Sherman that I'vebeen working on for about 6 years now. I keep finding more things to add or correct, and I would like to actually play a game sometime this decade.

Everything on Amazon is marked down a bit, and I wa able to get a black templar army box for $107 (vs the $199 launch price and $169 mark-down). Also have a space marine book, chaos marine book + patrol box for the wife, dark angel book + patrol box for me. That should give us enough for some patrol size games with the family and friends who are getting started too.

Combat patrol games are about perfect for playing at home with young kids, IME. The longer Strike Force and Incursion games tend to push past the attention span of my kid, and he's trying to learn and try out new stuff, so games go up to 4 hours in some cases.

With Combat Patrol, it's a more convenient table size and games are generally 1 hour, give or take 10-15 minutes of distractions. Just keep in mind that unlike Kill Team, playing under 500 points really affects some factions and they won't play very equally.

Kitbashing some Chaos Space Marines - World Eaters for a ten man Kill Team.  I've primed and painted with either Khorne Red (left) or Mephiston Red (right).  Second photo is after a layer of shade.  Which color to you guys like the best for the base red?

Yeah.  The Mephiston Red is what was recommended in the new White Dwarf discussing the upcoming World Eaters codex.  The Khorne red was suggested with the Berserkers set on the Warhammer website.  I am thinking the brighter one is the go to.

I have magnets inside the bases and just use a cheap metal toolbox to load up whatever army I'll be playing with.

I've been using Mephiston red on my World Eaters for years. I like it better as a base color and it goes very well with the Blood Angels contrast.

Started painting my decade-old Guard models. I'll at least build a patrol of guard, although it's already fun to paint. I also ordered a Leman Russ Demolisher for an additional HQ. Should arrive by next weekend.

A new report has claimed that Superman actor Henry Cavill is in the final stages to star and executive produce a Warhammer 40,0000 TV series for Amazon.
View Quote

Cavill seems to have landed on his feet though, as a report from the Hollywood Reporter has claimed that Amazon is in the final stages of acquiring the rights to Warhammer 40,000 and that the actor is attached. No further information about the show has been released as of yet, although Amazon has apparently been in negotiations for the rights to the franchise for a while now, and has fended off multiple other potential buyers.

Good Lord not Amazon or Netflix please. It'll be a woke show written by people who hate the source material and it's fans. It'll be written for "modern audiences".

The only thing that gives me hope is Cavill managed to finagle himself an executive producer spot.  He’ll supposedly have some level of creative control.  He was willing to walk away from The Witcher because he thought they strayed too far from the source material, so who knows?

I’d fucking love to see his take on either Caiaphas Cain or, preferably, Ibram Gaunt.

Hello fellow Nerds.

So, I have just started the Horus Heresy and I'm just about done with book 4, The Flight of Eisenstein.  Holy crap, are there are a massive ton of books to read!  They're short (about 500 pages a piece), but WOW what an endeavor. I have to say though, so far, four books in that they have done a real good job of coordinating the lore despite having different authors.

The books can be really good and really boring.

The first few Heresy books are really good, but there's quite a few stinkers out there.

I've been listening to the books on Audible, in order, and I'm on book 13.

Yeah, so far they've been decent. Although The Flight of the Eisenstein was not as cool as the first three.  I really had hoped that Garviel Loken would be the main protagonist throughout the books, I really liked him as a character and it kind of sucks that we have to leave him on Istvan III.

It’s weird not having exploding 6’s or a second attack with the berzerkers but their doubled amount of attacks means they will get a shitload more attacks in because they won’t die during the counter fight.

I HATE how they changed Kharn though. The Betrayer rule going from wounds on 1’s to just any time a unit is close takes the fun risk out of the dice.

Stoke the Nails is a stratagem for 1 CP to put any World Eaters unit in Wanton Slaughter, thus getting exploding 6s until you can get to the 3rd battle round for constant Wanton Slaughter.
