Op's not wrong. The ewok battle scenes are dumb and full of plot holes.
Like the >just< happened to have piles of logs ready to trip the walkers? Or on vines to smash them? Or that armored troopers could be taken down by thrown stones and swung sticks?

And do these preps close to the back entrance without being noticed. Cause they sure as hell didn't set them up in minutes.

Rest of movie was decent.

It's been so long since I've seen the movie (sometime before I turned 18 for sure), that I never really thought of that stuff, although I always thought dropping rocks doing anything was silly.  The stormtrooper armor would be worse than useless.

But, IIRC (and I may not, given that it's been a while since I've seen it), the ewoks had some initial successes, especially with the element of surprise, but were pretty much getting routed after a while.

In the same vein, re-watch Close Encounters of the Third Kind.  The special effects are still very cool and well done, however the story line of the main character getting fired for seemingly no reason at all, then his wife leaving with the kids when he starts to have some weird visions does not seem believable.  But it allows him to semi hook up with the Christmas Story mom whose kid got abducted then returned by the space peoples.

I also re-watched the first (original) 3 episodes of Star Wars very recently and was kind of surprised at how lame they now seem.  Especially the very first Star Wars.  I know it was from the mid to late 70's and was epic for it's time, but it wouldn't fool an 8 yr old today.  The story line was great though, as was the Death Star destruction scene but the props they used, such as PVC pipe and plumbing fittings, micrometers as throttles and tractor beam handles and other stupid shit really detracts.  Also the Rebel "uniforms" are so fucking stupid they are retarded.

I believe he got fired for not doing his job...…………...they sent him out to check the lines to see where the outage or downed lines were, and when he saw the UFOs he chased them across state lines...………...he wasn't doing what they sent him to do, and he got canned for it, even if its not completely spelled out

Most Sci-Fi movies have space warships with very prominent and exposed bridges.  Seems problematic, but that does set things up for that sort of scenario.

I think Battlestar Galactica (the reboot; never saw the original) did it the best, with there not being a traditional bridge (not any that was ever shown, anyways), with a CIC deep inside the ship like the secondary ones on a battleship.

The Empire Strikes Back is the best Star Wars by a long shot.

Especially the final sequence starting with Luke deciding to go to Cloud City.  Nothing else comes close.

I ignored the ewoks.  If you ignore the ewoks the story is pretty good.  The special effects have struggled with time, by the time they put it to digital the film had faded in the copy they used was faded in areas and the matting got BAD.

It was not as bad as Jar Jar or Peggy Sue, or the purple dress bitch.

Empire is Best Star Wars and we all know it.  Followed by Rouge One.

I can remember the lead up to its release. I first heard about ROTJ having been filmed from my best friend’s dad. He worked for Fruit of the Loom. I can vividly remember him talking about how there was a new Star Wars movie coming out and they (FOTL) had some Underoos already in production that featured these little teddy bear type creatures that were going to be prominent in the movie.

I thought he was a confused oldster talking about Chewbacca.

I give ROTJ a pass on the special effects because of when it was made. But the Ewoks were Jar Jar Binks before JJB was JJB.

By that point Lucas knew he had a cash cow franchise and IMHO was story writing to sell merchandise. I can remember kids fighting over the “Luke in black” action figure.

Yeah, they were originally going to be Wookiees but then he realized that:

1) Merchandising! As has been said
2) No one would be surprised at Wookiees ripping up Stormtroopers so making the "good guy guerillas" tiny teddy bears made it seem like a more dramatic victory.

Anyone really interested in how Star Wars became Star Wars (at least as it was Before the Dark Times, Before Disney) should check out the book The Secret History of Star Wars. George's "Grand Plan" that was hinted at from the first Bantha Tracks (which you have to be old to remember) was basically bullshit, he was just making stuff up as he went along within a very broad outline of what the overarching story was going to be.
