I loved S1 of The Devil is a Part-Timer so much I rewatched it at least half a dozen times, but I can't tolerate anymore of the shitshow that is S2 and am throwing in the towel. I am bored out of mind trying to struggle through each episode and in the first 5 episodes COMBINED I laughed a grand total of one time. I LITERALLY had a dentist appointment earlier this week that was more enjoyable.
On the flip side, I wasn't expecting anything from Call of the Night and that has been very enjoyable so I guess it evens out. |

Danganronpa: The Animation was mildly entertaining. Kinda like a more cerebral Hunger Games. It trailed off at the end of the season, IMO, but it was still worth a watch.
Trying to figure out the proper watch order after S1 gave me a headache (especially reading S2 was apparently a video game and S2 of the anime is actually S3 or some such shit) so I'll call it quits after S1. |

View Quote All that having been said, if you want to know the entire truth of the whole series and don't intend to ever experience the whole thing yourself (and I'm warning you for a reason): Click To View Spoiler No, because the entire series is bullshit. Actual, completely fabricated escapist bullshit. It was and still kind of is a controversial series finale. As some people saw it as a big fuck you to the fans. More specifically, it's a fictional show that's wildly popular IRL because people like murder and drama, and the player's essentially assumed the POV of one of the fans for the entirety of the series. A bit more dystopian that that maybe, as it's implied that the characters were once real humans, until signing up to be in the killing games, at which point they're perpetually trapped as fictional characters. There were some clearly intentional plot inconsistencies sewn into the final game regarding this, presumably to open up the possibility of a sequel, but the creators left spike Chunsoft after that, so this will likely ultimately be the canon ending, but who knows? |

I don’t know anything about the series other than what I’ve seen in the few episodes so far, and I’m wondering how and when her backstory will be revealed - but the YDMC (I just invented that - the Young, Dorky Main Character) is certainly in the running for a ‘most clueless character of any anime, ever’ award which IMHO threatens to overshadow her charms. His cluelessness exceeds that of even the uber-clueless Lloyd Belladonna of ‘Last Dungeon Boonies’ fame, which is quite a feat in and of itself. But even though that series took a single gag and built the entire show around it, I managed to enjoy the various ways that the writers had fun with it and built a story around it. Whereas somehow this show comes across as a bit too much like a stereotypical lowbrow TV sitcom for my tastes, as the main gag feels more than just a bit forced. If all that they do with it is milk that same gag one episode after another after another, I may just lose interest in it and punt. |

RWBY: Ice Queendom does a great job of rendering absurd-world dream sequences.
The last several episodes have had plenty of good examples, but ep. 7 surpassed all of those. I particularly enjoyed a brief visual snippet that strongly reminded me of scenes from Attack on Titan - while other scenes could perhaps trace their inspiration to the Sorcerer’s Apprentice - but there’s also plenty of material that feels unique and not derived from anything that I can place… And while the sequence with the walls opening ahead of the train (and building the tracks just ahead of it as it traveled at high speed) could possibly have been influenced by many other works, from Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Train, to Harry Potter, to Polar Express and Snowpiercer, it was still a lot of fun to watch it. |

Click To View Spoiler Ayo how the hell does a 14 year old boy get raped literally the first time he steps out after sunset in his entire life? That's the kind of stuff you see on a Scruff McGruff PSA. It's okay. Click To View Spoiler On the level I am actually a bit iffy about the age thing. To be fair, twilight pretty much did the inverse of it and those books were extraordinarily popular with girls when I was in high school. I think part of it is that he really does come off as a dopey and naive fourteen year old, and having read the first book I know that she's at least old enough to have bought a brick phone when they were new. If he were 16 or 17 I think I could cope a bit more, but as it stands I'm very much in "eh..."sville about it, which is a bummer because besides that the story's pretty engaging so far. I'm not going to drop it but I do kinda hope that he DOESN'T end up with Nazuna. |

I don’t generally enjoy vampire-themed movies or anime - and I have found most teen-vampire-themed series that I’ve viewed to be somewhat cliched and tedious and uninteresting.
However I made an exception and binge-watched all 12 episodes of Dance In the Vampire Bund, and felt that it was actually pretty good, all things considered. The artwork is not all that great, and notwithstanding the TV-MA rating, the ecchi scenes were rather tame, but it did have at least several interesting characters, and it doled out bits and pieces of a sometimes gritty and hard-core storyline in a manner that kept me guessing. Oh, and it did feature a cast of vampire maids who mostly had background roles that helped even out the ebb and flow of the action, in much the same way that the background singers in a Motown band complement the lead singer (and what’s not to like about vampire maids?). I’m also not generally a fan of chibi characters giving combined episode summaries and previews at the end of each episode, but the writers clearly had fun putting those together (and I got a few unexpected laughs out of them). |

Yeah, teen-loli is actually hundreds of years old.
Now where have I seen that before? Well, certainly in spades in Re: Zero, but in lots of other series as well. I don’t know enough about the history of anime to know whether or not that was an innovation at the time… |
