The most recent episode of Shangri-La Frontier looks like it was taken straight from the Vault of Glass in Destiny, including the convoluted path they had to follow. It definitely had a very Vex-like feel to it.

I don't wanna get to hopeful but I'd love to see a tight 700-800ish episode version of the entire with better animation one day

I started the Impel Down Arc.  I’m about 10 episodes in.  It’s an interesting premise, but it still feels like they take one episode worth of material and stretch it out to three episodes.

I wouldn’t mind a Nico Robin upgrade.

I'm not so sure. Netflix is involved and it's Current_Year. I wouldn't be surprised if she's an overweight sassy African American gal in the remake.

Oh, I have ZERO faith in the Netflix live-action casting a solid Nico Robin.  The casting for the teenage Nami should have been a layup, but instead they cast a woman in her 30s who looks it (to make it worse, the flashbacks showed the character is supposed to be 17-18 years old on the show).  So if they botched an easy casting like Nami, there is not a chance in hell they are going to do a 6’ 2” sultry Nico Robin justice.

However, this is for the anime.

The Eminence in Shadow:

Remember Nishino Akane, the child actress/kidnapping victim from Episode One?

Is Claire Kageno supposed to look like her, or am I seeing things?

And how stupid do you have to be to walk home alone after your bodyguard fails to pick you up from school and doesn't answer his phone?
Wouldn't she call parents/servants/police instead of just going for a stroll in the dark?

No, I don't remember anything from episode one.

I can't even seem to piece together what happened in this latest episode.

This is the final scene of this week's Anime, with an important detail that I missed, or the Anime didn't show:

The entire series has been a tour de force.

The driest of subtle/dry humor intermixed with the hardest core of hardcore violence/porn imaginable.

Creativity born out of madness. Calling it a work of pure genius would hardly be an exaggeration.

Tarantino's best is amateur hour by comparison.

Haro Aso (Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead and Alice in Borderland) definitely has a type.

- Pretty face

- Short, dark hair

- Very athletic

- Likes to run

- Frequently wears athletic clothing that shows off her stomach and/or tits during a TEOTWAWKI situation

That similarity is more than okay with me, but I hope Zom has a better ending than Alice had.

Not too many that I can think of.

The more common trope is the crystal ball that measures magic power, which the OP MC always seems to shatter.

I think it was Campfire Cooking in Another World where the royal mages had something like a mirror that they were using as a scanner to check skills, iirc.

Tsukimichi used scrolls to check levels, and My Unique Skill Makes Me OP even at Level 1 had giant boards on the wall at each dungeon they could use to check stats.

I'll keep thinking about it and will let you know if I can think of any mirrors.

Thanks.

I know "How Not to Summon a Demon Lord" used mirrors, an "am I Really the Strongest", I think used the crystal ball. I'd thought "Death March to a Parallel World Rhapsody" used a mirror, but they have some sort of circuitry looking table thing.

The Master of Ragnarok & Blesser of Einherjar does have a magic mirror, but it was mainly used to communicate with the MC's childhood friend.

Priestess is best girl, because she helps trap enemies in the fortress while you burn it down, set off IEDs at point blank range with her magic barrier and occasionally heals your battle wounds.

It has to be awesome to watch an FAE go off in the next room without dying. Crushing a monster between barriers so you can murdernit at leisure is also a plus.

The elf has a mean temper and CAN MAKE ARROWS TURN IN FLIGHT! Imagine the high maintenance involved with angry assasin elf when you piss her off or she gets drunk again.

Also I have the feeling every girl but the elf would let you keep cow-girl as a chamber maid / mistress.  The elf would get upset at the big udders and probably keep the cow-girl for herself.

The first episode was okay, but I am doubtful that the premise can be stretched out to 24 episodes and still be entertaining.

Yeah, Nico Robin is definitely Best Girl.  However, for that anime, that’s not saying much considering her only competition is a greedy, selfish, mentally abusive, physically abusive, sociopathic cunt.

I gave up on it after maybe three episodes.

I don't remember specifically, other than perhaps because the 'Beauty and the Beast' genre doesn't particularly interest me.

I watched entirely too much of The Ancient Magus' Bride for no good reason.

It reminds me of that one episode of Twilight Zone where a bunch of characters were trapped in a room having no idea who they are or how they got there, and toss in some of those Backrooms videos on YouTube.

And yes, memes are out and R34 are hard at work.

I really enjoyed it, I like the vibe where on the face of if it’s basically family friendly but has that slight hint of dread that comes through

On the subject of YouTube Indy cartoons I really like Helluva boss which is a adults comedy with a pretty healthy dose of action/emotion

And there’s a pilot call Lackadaisy it’s in prohibition era America with a pretty big shoot out featured ….. even a cat-girl with a B.A.R! Lol

Lackadaisy is/was a webcomic prior. The art was very well done and location/style well researched (including the guns) and the story was fairly interesting too. The comic updates fell off quite a few years ago when the author started working on getting animation stuff done and probably other things. A bit disappointing, but understandable. The pilot was pretty decent as well.

Holy shit I remember that comic. I thought the art looked familiar. Been years since I followed any of them. SNAFU comics, VG Cats, Girl Genius.... I used to be pretty active on the MegaTokyo forums 15 years ago. Fred is still making the comic, so I guess there's still a following.

I drop in on Megatokyo every year around Christmas and catch up on the 3 pages Fred posts

FWIW, I noticed that when Hizutome-kun, the protag of Shangri-La Frontier (IRL within the show - his in-game character is Sunraku) wears a T-shirt in bed while sleeping or while playing VR games - and that T-shirt says KUSO on the front, on the back, and on both arms (at least). OK, so it's spelled with a dot in the middle, between the KU and the SO - but still, anyone looking at it would read it as KUSO.

'Kuso' in Japanese means 'shit'. The word can be used creatively as an interjection or as an adjective, to convey related feelings (such as damn!).

But I'm wondering why he's walking around IRL wearing a T-shirt that says "shit" on it in bold letters.

Yeah, a continuing theme throughout the show so far is that he is a master of so-called Kusoge (or 'shit games' or 'trash games'), those being the lower tier or cheap, poorly-made games, unlike the 'god-tier' games such as Shangri-La Frontier.

But, WTH is he doing wearing a 'shit' T-shirt? (he wondered)
