Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian was better than I expected. At least the first 6 episodes were. After that it went from “I should go to bed, but I really want to watch one more episode” to “well, I guess this is watchable.”
Very solid dub too. Good VAs and the writers really had fun with it. Case in point: the pervert sister. An example is her setting up a scenario so her MC brother will walk in on her coming out of the shower… Sub: “I saw you checking me out!” Dub: “I saw the way you were eyeballing the gifts our mama gave me!” |

Any opinions on Too Many Losing Heroines? I’m ready to call it quits after E1 as it appears to be an anime about a loser who listens to girls (who he barely even knows) whine about the crushes they have on OTHER GUYS.
Watching E1 I kept thinking about the “Underage Drinking: A National Concern” episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia when Mac yells at Charlie “YOU’RE THE ONLY IDIOT DUMB ENOUGH TO LISTEN TO HER BITCH ABOUT HER EX-BOYFRIEND ALL NIGHT!” |

What struck me as odd was the parts that are English with the Japanese VAs and Japanese with the English VAs. Maybe they did it to keep the flavor of the siblings throwing foreign language phrases into the conversation? (Masachika was reasonably fluent in English as a child, Yuki has taken over as the future diplomat of the family and is now very fluent in English) Quite often a Japanese "my brother" will turn into an English "Onii-chan". Like the time Yuki woke him up to go shopping by jumping on him. Japanese voice actress: "Good morning, my brother" American voice actress: "Ohio, my onii-chan" (which seems fucked up with an English "my" stuck in between ohio and onii-chan) And while I don't speak Russian, I get the idea that the Japanese Alya VA does and the American VA does not. The Russian parts of the dub sound wrong like the VA can't pronounce Russian fluently. |

Season 1 I watched on my phone in the hotel the night before the Richmond Rally. My partner and myself both armored up. I told her she could stay at the hotel. She refused to do so. So I insisted she have the keys. Because "if the shooting starts, I'll get shot before you will". No one got shot. It was (very cold) nice day. Just the amount of self-imposed chemicals I had running through me at the time I watched the 1st season. It'll be hard to enjoy the 2nd. And that's not me shitting on it. |

Question - what kind of interest do you all think people would have in a NIB airsoft version of the Black Lagoon "Sword Cutlass"? I bought one of these and got it into the US for somebody who had no idea how much they cost here in Japan. (They didn't even bother reading the message where I quoted the cost to me) So it's just been sitting and I don't really care for airsoft - especially in the US.
Is this a common enough item there or is this pretty much hen's teeth in the US? And how much interest do American's have in that Anime series? Is it pretty much past its prime or are there still a lot of fans? |

I had thought to build a brace of actual working guns - take a pair of Taurus 9mm models in blue, chop and re-weld the slides (4 slides cut at different points to make 2 extended slides), get a couple threaded barrels and add extensions, have the Thai inscriptipons laser engraved, then have the whole thing electroless nickel plated and given a brushed finish to look like stainless steel. I took rubber molds from the grip insignia so I could cast those - since that's the only part that is unique to the gun. I wonder what an actual, working brace of "Sword Cutlasses" would go for? I estimated this project would cost about $3,500 for the brace. |

Shangri-La Frontier Season 2 Ep1 did NOT disappoint!
I just found out yesterday that they rebooted Kenshin (I thought they just had the OG series on Crunchroll until I clicked on it wanting to hear "Sobakasu." I have a lot of fond memories of that show and the manga, back in college we would have fansub watch parties of Kenshin usually with sushi, pizza and lots of alcohol followed by some DDR on the Dreamcast. Anyway I'm 8 episodes in and the new voice of Kenshin so so radically different than the original it's jarring. I love the translation and how they didn't translate sakabato as reverse blade sword and they don't translate hitokiri as manslayer, among other things, just like the old fansubs did. They did a good job on the show thou and I'm really enjoying watching it again. I absolutely love meandering guitar in this song. |

Demon Lord Retry! R continues to piss me off with its jank animation.
Even moreso, the translations for the light novels continues to frustrate. Volume 9 released September '23, and 10 released September '24. Meanwhile they haven't even announced when they're releasing the V9 translation. |

Papa Meat's (aka MeatCanyon) review of Adult Swim's adaption of Uzumaki makes me afraid to watch it.
Strong episode one, then it just gets terrible. Like they blew the budget on the first episode, and then tried to stretch it for the other 3. With all the delays, you would hope it was to deliver quality. Freakin' sucks Junji Ito can't get a good adaptation. He knows his horror, and says at the end its still worth a watch compared to the other Junji adaptations, so I probably will watch it eventually. It shows Zeon sent all its minorities and ugly side shave pink haired chicks to die in gravity while blue eyed Casval laughs in space. Yet Netflix portrays Zeon as the hero’s. What did they mean by this? How they made Zakus look shitty is beyond me. Zaku looks good in everything except this.
