300 AAC is kind of a slow kid, but copper bullets usually shine. Today's gel test is going to be 120gr PowerShok in .300 Blackout, from Federal. @chopinbloc shoots it through an 8" AR-15 into calibrated 10% ballistic gelatin.

IB4 "why is this thread highlighted?"
IB4 .300 AAC is a death ray in 2 inch barrels." |

I'd like to see a 110-120gr SCHP in .277" loaded into a 6.8 SPC at 2500-2600 fps from Federal.
I'm a dinosaur....flame suit on. |

Ogive like: "Oh, you jive turkey" Semi Pro - Jive Turkey PS: Guns are always loaded. Of interest relative to the 300 BLK was the work done by @Fat_Mcnasty. His sub-sonic design had jacket expansion doing most of the tissue damage and it was quite effective as a hunting load for me. |

After the trauma, pain, weeping and gnashing of teeth (at levels that would impress Shakespeare himself) he suffered while testing 45-70 out of a lever gun, I think I'll pass on the drama.

OP works here and his job is to get you to watch the videos View Quote I love .300BO. This video didn't trigger me at all - a somewhat mediocre load (IMHO) produced somewhat mediocre results. As was stated at the end, better loads produce better results. I agree. I did lol at the llamas, though... |

Fad caliber! that will get someone killed with an exploded gun! And my 9mm will do the same thing for less!

The bullets works fairly well by his own analysis and yet he acts like it was a failure in every way possible especially is his click bait titles. It's decent but not great ammo, why wrap that fairly straightforward honest assessment in all the click bait BS?

Good video. Totally agree with the 300 blackout recommendations at the end of the video. Barnes Tac-TX 110gr is my go to in 300 blackout.
Seems like a half-assed effort by Federal, just thinking you can stick any 308 bullet and it will expand at blackout velocity. Thanks blue falcon, i won't waste my money on this ammo. Quoted:

That video is convinced me that the 300 blackout would be about the perfect caliber to take out grandma's Jell-O salad two tables over at the next church supper.

Good video. Short and straight to the point with factual data/trial.

He recommends the Hornady 110 gr SST, but Hornady doesn't even list that on their website. The lightest in that bullet caliber is a 125 gr.

Happy for the content.
The whole "disadvantaged yoot" bit was kind of lame as it is being compared to larger (case) bullets out of longer barrels. Shoot 7.62x39 out of an 8" barrel and you will have fairly similar performance....and a lot of flame. 5.56 out of an 8" barrel? Yikes With so many .300 black barrels in the 8" to 9" range (or 10.5" for hunting), it seems like most folks have settled on 110grs (V-max for me). A lot of people run Barnes Tac-tx or Hornady Black V-max (or subs). Regardless, I don't think anyone is expecting long range performance out of of something that is about the size of a sub gun. It is a shorter (not short) range. .30 caliber home defense/PDW/hunting weapon that is 1 MOA capable (although closer to 2 MOA with factory ammo), and slice through IIIA body armor...without burning off your eyebrows. You can run a can and subs with just a mag swap (or better yet, run subs and supers in the same mag...can or no can). Reload at will. My .300 is folded up and kept in a backpack. Out of a 9" running Hornady Black V-max (2190 fps), drops with a (2.7") 50 yard zero run: -1.11 at 25 yards, 0 at 50 yards +0.61 at 100 yards (peak) -1.13 at 150 yards. (150 yards = 1796 FPS....this is about the floor I would trust V-max to expand) -5.57 at 200 yards -13.11 at 250 yards -24.21 at 300 yards. (Tac-tx isn't quite as hot as vmax, so it would be going slower with more drop, but would still expand at 300 yards) V-max drops are basically 1/2 foot at 200, a foot at 250, and 2 feet at 300...easy to remember. Although with a 9" barreled back-pack gun, why on earth would I be shooting at something +200 yards away? That is why the long range performance, 7.62x39/.308 comparisons (and dismissing it for things it isn't supposed to do well anyway) don't make sense. |

why test out of a handgun length barrel/velocity if your going to compare the bullet to performance out of a 308 in rifle length barrel/velocity?
|

Aaaah video is kind of weak sauce. Its just reiterating what we all know about using a bullet thats not designed for the .300Bo

Quoted: or the opposite...you know what I mean lol there have been multiple threads on it here View Quote I run only coyote mags for .300blk. I try not to take both at the same time. If I'm taking a 5.56 with my .300, it probably has a .22LR conversion kit in it....so no worries. Being that the KB is .300 in 5.56 and not the other way, the simple solution is to only shoot your .300! But for real, if you shoot nothing but .300 and .22LR, there are no concerns with KB. Once cheap .300 ammo becomes available, I won't have any reason to shoot 5.56 outside of the occasional dust-off of the 16" SHTF rifle. |

The main attraction for me is the ability to cleanly run cast bullets from a suppressed AR platform. It just requires running them slowly. These videos would be better without the cheesy jokes and memes stretched throughout. Some good factual data and testing footage would draw in a lot more people.
