I’ve never seen a pistol light at 12, all at 6. Good luck mounting that and then finding a holster.

Maybe he meant AR pistols?

FSB is in the way for me.

My guess is people aren’t used to the look or placement because of the FSB even on rifles that don’t have one.

Also c clamp.

Not technically on the slide, but still at 12

Arisaka's Mossie Mount is perfect for adding a X300 on the FSB. Added Phlster's ARC switches to get better purchase on the activation nubs.

Threw this together as a spare... runs great.

Aimpoint Pro in LaRue mount, Surefire X300U, Centurion Arms trigger, Magpul sling and stock, rattle can finish.

BCM CHF ELW upper.... light and simple.

I run at 6 o'clock and I catch a lot of shit for it.

I tried running at 12 but the heat from the suppressor would cause the SF X300U to malfunction.

So it stays at 6.

Ergonomically they are the best WML I have ever used. Never had an issue with the two I have, but am hesitant to put them on my serious stuff because of all the bad press i've read.

Mine crapped out with very little use. Started blinking randomly when I hit the switch. Then it went completely dead. I contacted Inforce and they had me a new one super quick. I never took the new one out of the package, I sold it here in the EE. Great ergonomics, but I just don’t trust it. I switched to a TLR-1 and run it at 12o’clock. I like it but I wish it had a lockout switch like the WML did.

Edited to add pic:

I have a couple set up like that.

Generally the reason I don't is because the light I want to use doesn't fit there or isn't switched in a way that makes it useful.  But the rifles with TLRs or Inforces have them mounted at 12.

Usually because they are pistol based lights and not quite on the level of rifle lights. Sure they work but the x300 is no m600 as an example.

Also blocking optics but I like Unity mounts making that point moot

I have one on both of my “social” rifles.  Had both for several years, shot a bunch of rounds, banged around both guns quite a bit.  They both work fine for me.

As to where they’re placed, the switch is under where my thumb sits when I take my natural grip on the rifle.  Why would I put it anywhere else?

I could be wrong, but I thought the x300 Ultra had the same lumen and candela as the 600.

I used to love the 12 position for my light.  Then I did a night shoot with a suppressor.  The smoke coming out of the suppressor reflected the light back into my face.  Completely unusable.

I moved it to 6 after that.  That has downsides as well though.

No perfect answer it seems.

"I don't need a screwdriver, because I already have this hammer."

Having NODs is great but it also means you need a two mode light like the X300V.

Jokes aside it works well with a light/laser combo on top of a Mossberg Shockwave.

Go out and shoot around/through barricades and stuff preferably with a suppressor in the dark and report back.

Why not 6 o’clock?  That’s the best place of all.  But internets Tier 1 operators won’t go for it so it must be ignored.

Mines on the right side (3 o’clock?) since it’s an M951 on a KAC RAS on a Block 1 clone so no room except the sides.

I have (not with a suppressor) plenty of times over many years, when I used a light at 6 o'clock, with zero problems.  GD only knows what's edgy or in fad.

They are different tools for different situations. Sure, you can sort of pound nails with the butt of your screwdriver but the hammer works much better.

NODs are great and certainly have their place but they are not a wholesale replacement for WMLs.

I’ve broken TLRs, WMLs, and X300Vs.

WML has held up as good as the others.

TLR is the worst. That damn battery cap. Fix that and they’d be tough.
