Tell me if I'm wrong but if they send you a check and you burn it wouldn't you still have to declare it as income and pay taxes on it? You got nothing and still have to pay, double whammy! LOL

PS: really asking as I have no clue.

Since it is a one time payout sent out by the IRS based on taxes paid I see it as a refund not a welfare handout. You have to sign up for welfare to get welfare. I've never signed up for welfare and never taken any yet.

Why would you declare income you never received? Keep the video and show it to the IRS should you ever get audited. Problem solved.

For me, my time is too valuable to NOT have the green button.

This is really simple. We were already running a trillion dollar FY deficit before the virus.  This ‘refund’ most Americans will receive is just more deficit spending/money printing by our socialist government in an attempt to save the economy.  This isn’t Your money that you paid in.

So taxation isn't theft?

Should we all sacrifice our whole paycheck to help get the country out of debt?

You're complaining like we're discussing whether or not we're going to vote for it. The decision wasn't made by us.

For the record, I don't think I get any, but I think its really dumb to criticize people for getting their hard earned money returned to them, especially considering so many people here believe it should have never been taken from them in the first place.

If I got one and I don't think I will I would just apply it towards my quarterly tax payment so in a sense I'd be giving it back. As far as I'm concerned it's just them giving my money back anyway. I don't like to give them one penny more than I have to.

I haven't seen what, if anything passed or what the means testing on it is.

How am I a Bernie Bro? Please elaborate.

Ahhhh now you are going to suddenly pretend you aren't getting a check after never mentioning that in any of the 100 stimulus threads you shit post in. I knew that would be the new angle from the Share_Blue crowd when they were called on their hypocrisy.

I'm opposed on principle, but favorable in practice.

Return a portion of my taxes? I'm extremely worried the funds will arrive just prior to the market bottoming, and I'll cash the check and invest every nickel in VEXAX, one of Vanguards mid and small cap admiral index funds.

I know me, I've seen me do it.

We are all going to have to pay it back, with interest. It's just a loan you didn't apply for. Use it or don't. your still going to have to pay it back. It's not free or a hand out. It's a loan

For tax payers, it's just a return of your own money.  It's not a welfare payment.
Just like in 2009.

And since they are income testing it based on 2018 tax returns, we won't get it.
Even though I've been unemployed since January.

If they go off the 2018 taxes I won't get it, because I was still working at Charter making low 6 figures, also I had to cash out my 401K that year and made it look like I made high 6 figures, when I did not.

IF by chance I do get a check, I plan to cash it and save it.

I will do my best not to spend any of it.  I'll wait till the following year and see if they tax it, if they do I'll pay that back and use the rest on paying down debts or buying stocks.

I don't see any better options.

I figure as much as I've paid in over the last 20 years in taxes, SS and other BS, this is just them dropping a couple of crumbs and giving me a few cents of that back.

How is it hypocrisy?  I don't see anyone getting a check saying it's fucked up, they're making all kinds of excuses why they "deserve" it.

As usually many, including you on this board fail to understand why this is yet another blow to the nation our founding fathers built and envisioned.

What the few people who understand what it means to be an originalist is saying is that this is yet another sign of how fucked up our tax system is and its use to cover up government fuckups and bribe demographics by stealing from others.

It's not about whether you cash the fucking thing or whether its less than you paid in taxes, and that's why this scheme works.  Because too many can't see past the troff when they're being allowed to eat from it.

It's the same attitude out of ghetto people on welfare, the system is just fine when it is benefiting me, why change it.  It matters fuck all if you're paying taxes or not.

Lets say I believe everything in red.  Do I cash the check? Refuse the check? Boog out on the check senders?  Boog out on the check cashers?

Translate this belief into a plan of action.

Excellent point. I wonder why they can't at least go by 2019 taxes already completed as well? Or at least allow people to file for it that can prove circumstances like yourself?

What a cluster fudge no matter how you look at it.

Which means you are paying even less into the pot than you already where while a certain percentage of your countrymen are paying yet even more in than their already disproportionate share.

If I pay $20,000 a year in taxes because I am "a big earner" and you pay $10,000 because you're "a low earner" then I am already paying more into the system you are despite both of us being able to use it the same, I am already covering a disproportionate share.  Then the Gov gives you back $2000 more meaning you only paid $8000 in that year I am still paying $20,000 in meaning my disproportionate amount INCREASES.

"hurrr durr it's my money back" no, you're already not paying your fair share compared to others.

The fuck is wrong with so many on this board that don't understand how progressive taxation is already unfair?  You guys DO understand this is very much a liberal/leftist scheme right?  You're buying into the class warfare shit with this?

The whole tax system is fucked.
View Quote
Sorry, I did not create this situation.

I agree people who earn more do end up with disproportionate share and too much in the way of breaks and free shit goes to lazy, useless people. That doesn't change the fact about what good can happen with the money is likely more if it's out getting spent by people, rather than being wasted by government.

So don't be thinkin I am going to feel particularly bad for you if you don't qualify, that's a sign of your success, yet you managed to feel bad and jealous about it.

You all still believe you're getting a large check?

2 trillion to adult citizens approx $2000 per citizen x 327 million citizens in ???? and $500 per child x 74 million (unless that has changed).

Rough estimate is $750 billion of that will be spent and thats being generous. That is assuming that every single adult in the country who is a citizen gets $2000 and every child gets $500.  Where does the other $1.25 trillion go, hmm?
