cop steals nudes from phone.

Woman handed her phone to a cop on a traffic stop to show proof of insurance.   He takes it back to his car and steals nudes.  Lucky he stopped there.  With saved passwords he could of done a lot more.  Open your browser and make a huge order on Amazon.  Delivered to a vacant address.
Seems like just taking the ticket is better than handing unlocked phone to anyone.

So I guess keeping a print-out of my insurance in my glove compartment makes me a Boomer now.

25K?

Needs to be 250K.

And a permanent registration on the sexual predator list.

I've been saying this for years. Never hand law enforcement your unlocked phone, or even a locked phone. In the event they confiscate it for "evidence" and get it unlocked via a warrant.  It's the digital equivalent of inviting the man into your life.

Probably she didn't think a police officer would ever dig that deep, let alone copy and distribute it.

In some states, such as mine, you have to sue for the minimum amount to meet the jurisdictional requirements of the circuit court. In my case that’s $25,000. So just about every lawsuit that gets filed is for $25,000. I’m sure she’ll ask for more.

Didn't a court determine that a biometric scan does not require a search warrant?   The police can scan your thumb against your will, but a password must be court ordered if declined by citizen.

There is no reason to take someone's phone after they show you proof of insurance. I won't even touch it. But lots of folks will basically toss you their phone.

I prefer the old fashioned POI with paper.

Really the only time I'll hand over my phone is at someplace like the feed store if they need to manual enter a product number I took a photo of.  And that's only if there's no barcode they can scan while I hold the phone.  Just keep paper copies of things.  They don't run out of battery.

Had a trainee do this several years ago. He was prior officer at local pd and came to county. We were 2 weeks into training and I knew about his scetchy past. Told him to not try that shit here cause it wouldn't fly. He said it was all behind him. We find a meth lab at a trailer and he gets ahold of the fat chick's phone that lived there. Sent himself some pics from her phone. Never knew it happened until a year later when I get pulled into IA asking about it. He said I sent them as a joke. She went to prison and got out a year later, noticed the text messages cause stupid didn't delete them from her phone so she had his number. He got canned. Dude was uber Christian and cheated on his wife alot. The nerve of some people. Also a chubby chaser.

It's a pain in the ass but a good measure. My insurance company stopped sending the printed cards years ago so I always have to remember to print the latest ones every year. Registration is paper anyway.

Airline tickets? App. Concert tickets? App. Go to a baseball game? App.

Most of the time it's convenient, until it's not...

The last time I got pulled over I could not find my Insurance card and told the officer from the SO. He said "that's ok, I saw it online".

Apparently both the SO and PD here have access to that info by entering your license plate number on their in-car computer.

He just pulled me over because of a light being out, which was probably more of an excuse since it was 3:45 a.m.

No ticket. I was on the way to work and replaced the light on the way home from work.

There is. Is that apparent on Arfcom?

No.

Police shoot and kill (of all kinds, justified and not) around 1000 a year in the USA.

You don’t see the outrage on Arfcom.

Tennessee checks it.

Drive Insured Tennessee

You have to show proof of insurance to register your vehicle.  Unless you're in Memphis.. then you make a fake temporary tag and don't get insurance because it's rayciss and it's rayciss for the police to pull you over for it.

In Texas you can show proof of insurance via your phone but I wouldn’t hand it off to a cop like she did.

Article doesn't say she gave it to him, but that he grabbed it:

Doe said that when she unlocked her phone to show her insurance, the officer "abruptly" took her phone back to his police vehicle without her consent, disconnected the Bluetooth connection with the woman's car, and remained in his car with the phone for more than 10 minutes.
