Here's a few more non-1911s and I hope you guys enjoy the photos!

You're welcome! I love going there. I think this is my 4th or 5th trip.

My goal today was check out every 1911 they had. I forgot they had some amazing Bonnie and Clyde relics.

I'm sure. I've only been going there for the last 6 years or so. I live about 30 minutes away.

I find their displays in the theater area tend to rotate out, but the other exhibits tend to stay the same. They have some neat guns from the 1870s and on. Even a Larue .308 AR-10 build they made for the Rangers.

Thank you for the pics.

A lot more Gold Cups than I thought there would be.  Some say not to carry a Gold Cup because the wide trigger might make it easier to fire an unintentional round under stress or the Eliason rear sight is fragile.  I think Skeeter said to replace the roll pin with a solid pin for durability.

My goal is to go to the ranger museum this year for my birthday. First pistol I learned to shoot was a 1911. That was the platform I ran for many years in my youth. I got caught up in the high capacity options that drove me away from the 1911 for quite awhile. But this year I’m going to go back to carrying a 1911 when I’m not at work. I will feel just fine with a 1911 and a couple spare mags for my edc. I also really want a ww2 gi style 1911 cut for a rmr at some point. I think that would be a fun range toy. Old meets new

It's a cool museum, but keep in mind it's not very large. It'll occupy a few hours and fill a morning. If you're in Waco, I also recommend you check out the Dr Pepper Museum as it's right down the road from the Texas Ranger Museum. Those two combined could fill a day in Waco.

Right? The crazy thing about a lot of those engraved guns is they were their daily carry.

Some are commemorative. I think I saw a half dozen guns that were labeled commemorative.

Far more of them were specifically labeled as carried by the individual Rangers. They also display recent retirees and company commanders' carry guns.

Watch it come out closer to original that colts reproduction

Why Colt doesn’t make those by the truckload I’ll never know. They will have different serial #s than the old ones it’s not like they will ruin the market.

Yep.

Any non-surplus 1911s sold by CMP should be an American-made base model wearing the Pony, not the janky Turk-made Tisas GIs.

Maybe they want to sell guns that have thumb safeties that work properly and sights that don't look like this.

Or quality finishes, either.

There hasn't been a single Colt 1911 I've handled that ever felt like it was worth more than $600.

ETA: I take it back. I handled two nice Colts today.

Upon purchasing/trading into my 2015 Operator, I decided to make this pistol a defense gun, a fighting gun, with a no nonsense approach.

It came to me somewhat started, with the internals all changed to Wilson components.  I ordered a new recoil spring, chrome silicon Wilson 16#, and new FP spring.
I ditched the wood Springfield grips for a set of thin LOK Bogies, golf ball style grips.  A Nighthawk custom one piece magwell completes the grip.
I've ordered an Ed Brown safety, the pin style, but at this point it's back ordered.
It passed the 10-8 Extractor test, but just barely, so it needed a bit of tension added.  It'll just about eject into a 5 gallon bucket every time at this point.

Long and the short of it at this point is that the pistol runs really well, has great accuracy, and is exactly what I was looking for in a full size.
I'm still on the fence about checkering the front strap, only because I don't want to have the frame refinished.
Anyone know if that aluma-black stuff works, because I don't want the frame cera-coated,, and re-anodizing is quite expensive.  I'm fine with the grip tape, as it works just fine, albeit ghetto.

Have decided to set up the carry gun, an RO elite in the same manner, except for the grips, as the golf balls do grab at clothing.

I got out shooting yesterday before work and did some accuracy work and then some drills that had me sprinting 10-15 yards between targets and steel. Shooting 5- 25 yards.

I was shooting from concealment with my lw champion and I was continuously pleasantly surprised with that guns accuracy.

I tried AlumaBlack on an Ed Brown short aluminum 1911 trigger, and am not impressed. While I did manage to get a sufficient coating to effectively darken the material, it added enough to the external dimensions that it wouldn't fit in the frame, and it was only a superficial coating, as I didn't need to work very hard to remove the oxidation, even by hand-rubbbing. Ultimately, all I achieved was to change the appearance from a bright white natural aluminum to a frosty slightly darker frosted appearance.

I ended up finding and installing an OEM short black serrated trigger.

I want one with a rail. I am slowly coming to peace with the idea that a go-to belt or HD gun should have a mounted light. Not convinced it's needed for carry, especially since I'm usually asleep before dark.
