What is that that gap in the front half of the barrel underlug, just ahead of the recess for the ejector rod?  In any case, that is a pretty fantastic looking gun.

The gap has weights that can be put in to keep muzzle rise down. The black discs you see in the picture are just plastic spacers to fill that gap if you don't use the weights. That thing is plenty heavy without sticking weights in the barrel.

Why not? It's just .44 mag ammo.
Here's a few good reason from the Hornady website:
Its higher ballistic coefficient delivers dramatically flatter trajectories for fantastic downrange energy increases and amazing bullet expansion at all ranges.
Up to 250 feet per second faster muzzle velocity than conventional lever gun loads.
Exceptional accuracy and overwhelming downrange terminal performance.
LEVERevolution bullet featuring Flex Tip Technology.
Up to 40% more energy than traditional flat point loads.

I could be wrong, but I understood those benefits to be through a carbine/rifle length barrel, since the accuracy of any pistol just isn't enough at longer distances for the pointed shape to matter. A rifle needing more distance accuracy and aerodynamics while a pistol is focused more on short-range stopping power (thus either a hollowpoint, round-nose, or semi-wadcutter).

Also figured that if it WAS helpful at pistol-distance, it would be cheaper and more effective to find/load fully jacketed spitzer rounds as opposed to the soft-pointed ones needed for a leverguns mag-tube.

Here is my latest aquisition.  Nothing fancy, just an old NYPD-issue model 10 (10-8).  Those rubber grips only lasted long enough to get an "as aquired" pic, and two minutes later, had some new furniture.  I am going to do something next which may prove unpopular; I am sending it off for a melonite coating.  I will post again when I eventually get it back.
